• I cut Springer because I didn't like his price, I didn't cut him because it was penalty free as I knew someone would claim him. Outright cutting someone is a viable tactic I've used before in hopes to leverage the corresponding moves. That's all, no ill intent to take advantage of anything.

• Honestly I don't see the logic in dropping a Mookie Betts or a Springer unless they opted out or were injured. That's what trades are for. Also you might not like the teams a player will have to face this year. Other than that I must be missing something.

• The original purpose for the penalty free cuts was so that MLB players who opted out could be dropped without cost. Also we don't yet know which players will be healthy. Even though you can place them on the 60 day IL you might not want to hold onto a 36 year old player and eat his salary for the season. Also with expanded MLB Rosters an owner may decide some of their players will not get enough playing time and as a result make them difficult to trade.

• Correct. They have to have a reason to sit out because of the virus. Exampl player has a new baby. Players relative has cancer. Ian Desmond sitting out because he says Baseball is racist. He's not getting paid.

They can sit home and collect millions of dollars ;0) Ian Desmond of Colorado, Ryan Zimmerman and Joe Ross of the Nationals and Mike Leake of the Diamondbacks. • Sanford Sour Chiesel and I would like to offer Teams Penalty Free Cuts from now until opening day. The 30 days restriction against picking up your own dropped players will still be in force. With a short season and MLB players able to opt out of playing we think it is a good option. Teams may want to re-evaluate the usefulness of certain players due to expanded MLB rosters and the 60 game season. Will starters be as valuable as relief pitchers? It's up to owners to decide.
