Correct, I checked with Joe to make sure it was okay to immediately cut Young, but did not discuss this with my trading partner (Grudge). I figured it was a good way for me to trade Jansen for $10 in immediate cap space and eventually more (cont.)...
-
Then again, there is plenty of risk and cost associated, so it?s not an easy way to game the system. With the loan, Grudge will be paying $30 to roster Young and Jensen, and he could easily lose Young to another motivated owner.

I asked Niv about doing these types of trades, but doing it intentionally (both owners knowing the plan). He said it?d be rather fishy behavior, and I tend to agree.

I believe Grudge?s take is accurate. OMG contacted me before accepting the trade offer, to confirm that making a trade for $ was ok. After he cut Young, Grudge, who didn?t know OMG?s plans, was free to pick up Young again.

I had no idea he was cutting him. I just wanted Jansen. I figured if I can pick Delmon Young back up, I can trade him again. My guess is the cut was to keep the loan, and clear out Young's salary.

Grudge or OMG: What's the deal with the Delmon Young trade-cut-add series of transactions? Figured that was just a dump deal until I saw the cut/re-add. Now I'm confused.

It was really easy to do as well, since that's all simple spreadsheeting. Copy/paste and some basic use of SUM(), plus multiply/divide by 100 to convert decimal to %age.

Having said that, it's a neat idea just to track projected end-of-season points based on the current pace and the games/IP caps.

I did that as part of my preseason prep work, but it could turn into a lot of work to keep something like that up-to-date.

For pitching, you would have to come up with a way to estimate saves and holds, since those are not part of RoS ZiPS (to my knowledge).

There was an article before the season about how wRC tracks pretty well with points for hitters, but RoS ZiPS doesn't give you wRC. It shouldn't be too difficult to plug all the hitting stats into a formula based on our scoring system, though.

But, I'll keep trying. Somehow writing an application to do it sounds like it would magically turn into FAR more work. Even if I am more familiar with it.

I hate Excel. I'd rather just start an application from scratch in C than deal with this junk.

What I said works pretty well for starting pitchers--points/IP is about 8-FIP (5+[FIP coefficient]-FIP if you want to get fancy) but there isn't a linear relationship between wOBA and points/PA even when you don't take SB and CS into account
-
It might be simpler than you think if you're willing to fudge things a bit--just figure out the conversion factors for FIP to P/IP, wOBA to P/PA. Factoring in steals, saves, holds and estimated PAs would be a bit trickier but still doable
-
I'm going to look into having future scoring based on ZIPS ROS projections, but that's beyond my excel abilities at present, so it'll take a while.

No, I just created a spreadsheet that uses our current scoring paces based on current stats, and projected final score as a function of points per game, stretched out to the maximum game limits. ZIPS would be a bit more involved, but doable in the future.

Awesome, that will be really cool to see, thanks. How are you doing the projections? ZIPS?
-
I'll redo them later tonight after all games are over, and do the top 5 teams, to figure out roughly how the "money" teams will score in this format.

Messed around with figuring out projected points at current scoring rates, assuming everyone hits every games played / IP cap, Ligers should end up with ~18100 points (he was in 1st when I pulled the numbers)

Starting an auction counts as $1 bid. Ties are broken by a coin flip. I bet Niv flips the coin himself.

And in all honesty, I only bid in an effort to try to make someone pay 2$ for Peavy.

I'm guessing that it does. I thought that if you nominated a player, but *nobody* bid, then it went to the nominating player, but if anyone at all bid, it went to them instead.

Just looked at the auction results, and Everyone's Grudge was the only team that bid on Peavy. How come he went to Babip Avengers? Does a nomination automatically count as a $1 bid?
-
Haha, wow, 17 of the 40 players on my roster are in the minors. That seems kind of ridiculous, in some ways.

Also, Ottoneu posted to twitter/facebook asking what improvements we'd like to see for next season. So far I've suggested customizable rosters (different lineup types, etc), and new customizable scoring categories. What are you guys suggestions?
