Oops, make that $7, same price as Pineda in our league.
-
I predict Stanford Yankees will be a tiny bit more inclined to move Montero now, though he's a great value at $5 in any park.
-
Yankees even got another really interesting pitching prospect--Jose Campos
-
So, uhm, Pineda to the Yankees for Noesi and Montero. WTF?

Wow, Pineda for Montero! Both take a pretty big hit to their value switching teams and parks, I'd say. As a Sox fan you never want to see NY's rotation get a boost like that, but at least we have a lot of LHBs.

I will reach out to Dave Dohman. I'm pretty sure I did last year, but maybe with a year of playing Ottoneu under my belt I'll make a more convincing case for it.
-
In fact, last I heard (on November 3) Niv told me he'd probably make the switch optional.
-
Yeah, I think in a vacuum I prefer this system--my issue is that I don't think the scoring settings for this kind of league should ever be adjusted midstream, and also that I did not know this would be implemented across the board until yesterday.
-
I have a guy who might be interested but I'm not holding my breath. I'll keep you all posted though.
-
We're still looking for a new owner. Any ideas out there?

I'm surprised everyone is coming out against it - I recall this twitter discussion happening last year, and most folks seemed to support it. Or maybe that was just in regards to pick six?

Pitchers have a ton of control on batted balls in play. Not all, but definitely a significant portion.

... what happens to batted balls in play, IMO. The new settings should make Brendan happy though.
-
I also liked that the former settings made this a pretty pure FIP scoring system (at least as far as SPs are concerned). Making hits (-2.6) worth almost as much as walks (-3.0) moves too far in the direction of pitchers are entirely responsible for (cont)
-
Though six of my pitchers appeared on the gainers list I definitely disagree in principle with making a scoring change like this with little advance notice.
-
I don't necessarily like the change being made by Niv with little warning, but I can deal with it. However, in the future we'll hopefully have more customizable league options (scoring, etc).

"Just changing it across the board"...

HRs will hurt a little less, which is nice.

If he makes it optional, I'm definitely in favor of keeping things the same in our league.

Niv has made some good points in an e-mail to me about needing better communication and wanting to "get it right" before the number of users gets out of control. Still don't think I would have made this change at this stage in the game, but I understand.

Don't like it but I can live with it. Hoping that there is a choice to make it optional. Can I get Ricky Romero back?

When I asked him about it, Niv did tell me he was thinking of making it optional though.
-
Agreed, scoring change is BS.
-
anyone interested in grady or yady molina let me know, they are both good values but likely to get stuck on my bench
-
Since the balance between positions has changed (albeit slightly), player values have changed. People need two or three years to make the necessary adjustments and allow players to naturally get better or worse, minimizing the effect on league balance.

To focus on my biggest concern with the change: whether it is a half-season's notice or an immediate change, much more notice is necessary to make a scoring change in a keeper league. In my opinion.

Although I've come around on the idea that this does, marginally, improve the scoring in that it reflects the actual game better, I was against it (and told Niv so) for many of the same reasons you mention, in particular that it undoes work and (cont)

Also, I'm thrilled that I traded away the biggest SP "gainer" (Justin Verlander) and that the system "seems to favor elite pitchers." Elite arms traded by Umpire Weekend during 2011?12 offseason: Verlander, Lee, Sabathia.

So which converted SP do you predict will stick as an SP and finish 2012 with the highest WAR? Bard, Feliz, Aceves, Sale, other?

I think it's nearly impossible to have 75% of active votes against a trade, so I veto every one (including ones I'm involved in) on the off chance it's close enough for one vote to matter.

Yep, I have two pretty cheap fallback options in Lind and Gaby Sanchez, both of whom I was already planning to keep. We'll see what other goodies the auction may bring. Still not totally satisfied with my OF but Pence is a big piece.

Lind and Sanchez is a decent 1B platoon, and there'll be free agent 1Bs on the wire.
