Sucks about Sizemore...
-
Any date for a draft yet?
-
Darvish was added to the ottoneu universe as an executive decision by Niv, probably due to a lot of requests from owners.

I'm glad you guys aren't suggesting you remove Darvish. I was worried I might have to shank someone.

That sounds reasonable to me, but I can't set those rules. I'd suggest you email Niv about it - he is receptive to feedback and prompt when responding to folks. I'm also sure he has his reasons.

I'm not arguing to remove him from KTT's roster, but I think moving forward a player should have to have a contract with a major or minor league team in order to be picked up.

There's no way I would have devoted a roster spot to Darvish last year (before trading him) if he wasn't going to be keeper-eligible. I agree he definitely belongs on KTT's roster.

I don't think there's any question that he should be left on KTT's roster.
-
Yeah, that just seems like a mistake on Niv/Ottoneu's part. Definitely a good move by John to snag him back in the day though. I don't know if you're necessarily proposing that we do anything about this, but...
-
How come a guy like Darvish doesn't go into the auction? It's not like he was a minor leaguer under contract. He was a free agent coming from Japan. I'd think he would be available to open bidding like Cespedes should be.

1 min sounds like a reasonable average, yeah.
-
Not really. It's unlikely that I'll be able to make anything on a Thursday night and I have class till 9 or so every Wednesday but I'll make that clear on the poll. Those times sound fine to me.
-
We have ~170 roster spots to fill. Does anyone recall the average draft time per selection last year? Maybe ~1 min?

Ok, I'm setting up a doodle for us to all mark our availability. Do folks have any strange time of day needs? I'm thinking 8:30 and 10:30 PM ET as the weekday options, and 1, 4, 7 PM ET as the weekend options.

Agreed--I'd do this like next week if people want to.

Earlier the better.

I like the idea of having a long trade/waiver auction-allowed period before the beginning of the season.
-
I think I'd actually prefer to have it right at the end of Feb or some other time that gives us a while before the season actually begins. Much more wiggle room in case something comes up and someone can't make it all of a sudden, and...
-
March 2-3 would not work for me, otherwise very flexible.
-
March 23-25 now out for me as well.
-
I don't mind if we do it earlier. My other league has always done it early so we could get in a few weeks of trading before the season started. Also, as I'm a medical student, could you throw a few dates out there so I can work around potential exams.

I don't care that much either way though.
-
Yeah, I'm coming around on the idea of having it 2-6 weeks before Opening Day. I'd imagine we'd have much less competition with finding time slots, for one thing, and the sooner this happens, the easier it is (for me, at least) to commit to a time.
-
I'm very flexible. While I'm used to drafting near the end of spring training, it might be fun to move it up a few weeks, A) for the increased risk/randomness factor which makes things interesting, and B) to enable us to get back to trading sooner.
-
I have no plans for the March time frame at the moment, so I'm fairly flexible.

My dates are starting to fill up. The sooner we get a general idea for a draft date the better
-
I'd prefer to wait and have the auction closer to the start of the season, but I'm open to having it earlier if others prefer that.

The idea of locking into a time more than a month ahead of time makes me a little queasy too...
-
I might be down with that. There's definitely increased risk that someone's going to be saddled with an expensive player with a serious injury, but that's something I'm sort of OK with--everyone shares that risk equally.
-
Niv says we can't do two auctions. But we could do our auction really soon, which would again open up trading.

I'd like to have it a day or two before Opening Day but I'd be open to the idea of having it earlier.

I don't know how congested people's Marches are going to be, but doodle.com is good for scheduling stuff like this.
-
Also, when do we want to do the real auction/draft?

I'm not down to manually move guys around, sorry. I have asked Niv about one possibility that might allow us to trade (artificially declaring that our auction is over, which would allow trades, and then essentially having a second, real auction).

Detroit Ligers's trading block has been updated!
-
I'm in for being able to move players. I'm actually surprised we go dark for basically a solid month
-
I mean, we could have some kind of no-trade period for the week going into the auction or something if people really buy into the "stable rosters make for better prep" thing (I don't)
-
haha, I'd be down with that
-
Well, we could always have Joe move players manually using the commissioner tools, if that's ok with everyone involved?
Quasi Muto on

Agreed. We should definitely be able to trade.

I disagree with that too. The biggest thing that sets ottoneu apart from other fantasy games is that there truly is no off-season. In terms of maintaining year-round interest in the game, allowing trades during this stretch seems like a no-brainer to me.
-
Rosters are locked until the auction. Niv claims something along the lines of "stable rosters make for better prep", which I disagree with. Easier, perhaps, but not better.
