Also, Out Of The Park is accepting 2013 pre-orders as of today. If you order it by Feb 15th, you get $5 off.

If they think his weight is one of his major problems hindering him (it is), and they think skinny Young plays better, it's a decent incentive

Lol, Phillies putting weigh-in clauses in Delmon Young's contract. I'd love to get 600k for showing up under 230 pounds.

I just feel that as the new owner of Dom Brown, you need to set this image as your background: http://aeryssports.com/view-from-section-116/files/2012/02/photo.png

Joe, I only have one question for you. Why are you finding photos of Domonic Brown with no shirt on?
Chicago Socks on

like bottom 3 teams have to send videos of themselves singing and/or dancing to songs of top 3 owners' choice
-
could also have some kind of non-monetary penalty
-
like having a pretty big buy-in but spreading it fairly evenly across every position in the standings outside of 1st
-
I'd be happy to institute a buy-in/pay-out system that incentivized every position in the standings, but that's hard to do given the really shitty situations some owners find themselves in right now

I'd prefer to not do a buy-in, but if everyone else wants to have a small one, I'm not going to object either.

I'd be down for a buy-in, but I doubt we could get consensus on a dollar amount that is high enough to make a difference for managers who just seem content to finish 4th every year. That's a personality thing.

IE, if your auction has a minor league draft at the end, 5th place gets the 1st pick, 6th place gets the 2nd pick, etc

I'd be in for a small buy-in, but I also like leagues that have some sort of small motivator for the non-money teams

particularly for relatively new owners, and the last thing i'd want is to drive people away from taking on rebuilding projects
-
I'd be happy to do a buy-in and just have prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. i mean i dunno, i would kind of like there to be some kind of disincentive for sucking for years and years but i guess that's tough to impose

I gave OOTP a brief try once. And I might again. But I've found that I prefer fantasy's connection to real games.

Random question, does anybody here play sim league types of baseball? Out of the Park, etc?
Chicago Socks on

I wouldn't want to do that for fantasy, since the idea is that everyone's supposed to have an equal chance.

One thought might be to give small next-season salary bumps to the top three teams. Say $12-15 for 1st, $7-10 for 2nd, and 3-6 for 3rd. I?d have to speak to Niv about how to do that. And I?m not sure every owner would be into that, either.

But really, the goal is to incentivize 2nd and 3rd place. Do folks have ideas for how to do that?

Well, we could do a small buy-in this year, and give all the money to 2nd place!

So do I manage to try to be #1 every season, or do I "play realistically" and just try to put together a solid top 3-4 team, and know that team would have had a basically equal shot at winning the playoffs?
Chicago Socks on
January 21, 2013 11:52 AM

It's a mixed bag, because roto is all about full-season consistency, and there isn't a small-sample-size mini season at the end to luck your way into the top spot. Most managers (and GMs) only care if the team is good enough for top-4

I completely support the spirit of what you're saying, Tommy. However, is it even possible to "decide" how important winning is for managers? Managers either burn to win or they don't. Introducing a buy-in and prizes is probably one of the only ways to
Poster Nutbag on

i'm not really comfortable with it being completely subjective
-
it can be kind of an issue when some people see finishing second as an important thing to shoot for, others pack it in as soon as they decide it's unlikely they'll win it all
-
so can we like decide how important first place is vs. second, third, fourth etc. before the year starts?

It was time for a culture change in my organization; Detroit Ligers is now Molten Wang

Based on pts/G and pts/IP, and how many games your team has used and team IP, and projects that out to a full games played and 1500IP total.

Closer to the start of the season, I'll re-create and post my scoring paces spreadsheet, and try to update it once a week or so. In short, it's a spreadsheet that will show your projected end-of-season score, given your team's current scoring pace
