Just a quick note I forgot to mention that should go without saying but just to be clear: there won't be another salary relief measure this season. That was mostly a Mulligan since it seemed a lot of people didn't realize there was a salary cap. Keep this in mind not only with cuts but your draft plans.
-
Harper, Greinke, Scherzer, Pham, and Puig are all available - looking to cut salary and have a log jam in the outfield and extra arms.
-
Damn, I just looked at the arb results. Pete Alonso way up...

Players that are not cut before the deadline will remain on your team at their respective salaries.
-
Also, are players automatically kept unless we actively "cut" or trade them? I.e., do I have to do anything to ensure I keep Bo Bichette on my team?
-
I'm down to pay $50 for a prize league, and I finished second-to-last place last season. I'm willing to invest in making this league effin' awesome because it has a really good foundation and an awesome mixture of team-building mentalities. I'm dropping from my other fantasy baseball league to devote solely to this one. I'll just eat fourth-meal Domino's 4-5 times less to pay for my buy-in.
-
...so please post or message me with any thoughts or concerns. The minimum buy-in for a prize league is $50. Please consult the appropriate section on Fangraphs that details all of this thoroughly. As always I'm here to answer any questions but they are pretty detailed in the Rules section on the site. The other league I had joined disbanded abruptly so I'm more than willing to put that buy-in towards this league to chase some prize money.
-
If you know someone that would be interested in joining the league, please send me their email so I can invite them. I believe we have 2 or 3 owners not returning so there will be a couple we need to fill. This shouldn't be a problem once we get closer and if anything, we can allot the new owners time to make free cuts if we end up cutting it close for one reason or another. There's also the issue of increasing the buy-in to play for prizes. It seemed several were interested...
-
You can work trades to offload salary and potentially drop new players to work extra money into your cap. Be creative. But please remember that auctions do not function during this phase so any players that are free agents will be in the draft pool once the time comes. Speaking of draft, I will wait until closer to the season to get with everyone on a potential draft day. I'm also waiting until closer to that time to really hunt any new prospective owners.
-
Just another quick update. With arbitration over, the next phase of the off-season is deciding who you want to keep on your team. PLEASE NOTE: Auctions are NOT live until after the draft. This means if you decide to cut a player, you won't have the opportunity to re-add that player until the draft or after if they go undrafted. This phase of the off-season is a good time to discuss trades, debate your roster going forward and look at your finances. CUTS ARE PENALTY FREE during this time.
-
Friendly reminder that arbitration ends on the 14th.
-
For those that haven't begun arbitration yet, there is a tab at the top of the league page titled "Arbitration." Click on that and then there is a dropdown box with each team in it. You MUST allocated at least $1 to each opposing team and CANNOT allocate more than $3 to any team. You have a month to do this so you can take your time or make changes but this is a key part of the off-season so I highly suggest taking advantage of this period.
-
Final reminder that arbitration starts tomorrow. I recommend reviewing the process as outlined in the League Rules section.
-
I am also in favor of going to a money league.
-
If anyone is absolutely planning on not coming back please let me know. I still recommend going through the arbitration process and experiencing the offseason stuff because this is going to be really fun. But if you know for sure let us know. Remember that your team is paid for up until next season so you're still getting your money's worth and perhaps you'll decide to stick around.
-
Here is a link for an interesting read for the arbitration process: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/ottoneu-arbitration-omnibus-iv/
-
Arbitration beings October 15 and lasts a month. Every player will have their salary increases by $2 no matter what. We each get allotments to put towards other players to increase their salary. All of this stuff will be detailed through the site so no work will need done by us outside of alloting our salary increase.
Now the real fun begins!
-
Life has been crazy busy so sorry for being late on the congratulations but congrats Puig. This was a very fun experience starting a league from scratch and I look forward to building this league into the future. Be sure to check the league rules section or the calendar for all off season happenings. I'll be sure to post when we come up on anything important. Just a reminder that when cut season happens you can drop as many as you want and free up cash.
-
Congrats everybody on a great inaugural season. Anybody have any cool strange awards they want to nominate for? Most concurrent injuries? Worst single game outing? I nominate my team for the all-arrest squad, pretty sure I ended up with 3 guys facing charges at one point or another.
-
Congrats dude on winning the Inaugural WC League Championship! Your team was unstoppable toward the end of the season, it was hard to catch up to you lol. But well done on claiming the first trophy for this new league.
Many thanks to Cox for running this league. It's been fun and competitive around.
Let's do it again next season! :)
-
Haha thank you! That was a dramatic final day (I was down by 7 at 6:45pm). Given what the Eagles did to me yesterday, it was good to get a win... Looking forward to offseason moves and next season!
-
A big congratulations to A Puig of Their Own for winning the championship for the Wrestling Clique Dynasty inaugural seaon! You put together an amazing team. I am sure Peaky will be sending you your trophy in the mail postage due.
Congrats again.
-
Having said that, nothing about teams or scoring would need to change. It would literally just be the amount we all pay to play next season with the added caveat that there's prize support.
-
But if we DID change buy-in I think it would be appropriate to vote on it and have it settled before arbitration and certainly the draft. It could change the way people approach their rosters.
-
I'm not opposed to it either but it does present a bit of a dilemma: Everyone constructed their respective rosters with the current format. I don't know what exactly would have changed had we done a bigger buy-in for prizes, but the possibility is there for people to object. Prize buy-in is $50, not $20 which might be too much for people. And I would certainly never begrudge anyone for not being interested. I guess this is something for everyone to consider heading into the playoffs then.
-
I’m open to voting in the off-season to go to a prize league.
-
Fair enough Cox.
I wish everyone in the playoffs the best of luck as well.
-
Having said that: good luck to everyone in the playoffs. This year has flown by for me personally and it's insane that we are into the playoffs already. Had a lot of fun this season and look forward to the off-season and well as that will be a very meaty period with lots of decisions and touch choices to make.
-
I'm going to be pretty upset about it. I did as much as I could to fill everyone on WC in on the rules as possible and tried stressing the important details.
-
It's not bullshit considering I don't work for Fangraphs and didn't design the format. For everyone on WC I outlined this before anyone signed up. I was as specific as possible and I know I made it well known this wasn't a prize league. Additionally every single question that I've been asked about the league is available to view in the rules. Obviously as commissioner I have zero issues reaching out to help. I like running leagues. But if people are going to act surprised by no prize now...
-
Cox is right after all. How could I've been so blind to not read to fine print.
-
Guys Cox disclosed this long before the league year started. Check the WC thread. The $20 goes to fangraphs for hosting or something.

I honestly thought we're playing for money in this league. Aren't we not?
-
That's bullshit Cox!
-
Meaning there's no money prize. $20 is the minimum buy in to use Fangraphs. Leagues aren't prize eligible unless the $50 buy in tier is used.
-
This isn't a money league? I thought this was a $20 buy-in?
-
The deadline was approaching and I sent Mitch a trade to help my team and offered him salary relief. I didn't even expect him to respond to it. This isn't a money league so I don't care enough to try and pull off sketchy trades.
Its really no different than people selling out for "the future" in a league that just started.
-
I don't want to stir the pot but I do take issue with the previous trade with Winning Mitch. Just not a fan that he was inactive for months, came back to trade away some of his highest value-for-the-money players for virtually nothing, and then hasn't been active again since. Obviously what's done is done but since we're on the subject of trades I thought I'd say something, I know it got a few veto votes but not enough either way to make a difference.
-
Yeah I’m risking that Scherzer will actually be healthy for the two weeks in September that I’ll have playoff matchups. I will say that I think playing in a salary league makes trading a lot more interesting and fun because players aren’t just worth what they produce - they’re worth what they produce relative to their pay. That leads to a much better and active trade market.
-
On name value alone along with health status this trade can look lopsided but I really don't think it's close. Scherzer has been dealing with health issues himself and he's one of the most expensive players in this league. People have been really focused on prospects and trying to build. Puig is trying to win this season so he is paying the cost to win.
-
People have to remember that with salaries involved trades can't be looked at like in traditional leagues. Anyone that is kept is obviously on the books for the next season but with arbitration their salary will rise. And then the allocation allows us to all apply salary to players. That's why it's designed the way it is. If you really feel something was lopsided allocate salary to the player you feel was a part of it and their salary will be more. This can make it harder to keep.
-
Yeah I mean 0% chance I kept any of those guys.
I'm a huge fan of Hicks and Snell isn't too overpaid considering the rest of my staff.
Peaky Cox this reminds me of the trade we made a couple of years ago in the ESPN league that set us both up for a few years.

Peaky is spot on with why I felt the trade was fair. I’m giving up Ramirez on a good contract for what he did in the 2nd half of this season before the injury. Snell is a bit over priced but possible to bring back. Scherzer will definitely not be kept next season, and Harper likely will not either as both are way overpaid. In pure value next season, Infant Sorrow has a lot of benefit in this.
-
The past two have been kind of sketchy...IMO
-
Not really. It's cash neutral and there's no way Scherzer is kept at that salary next season. With this being the first season there's a lot of hefty contracts since we all had a chance to win. So basically Shawn is getting future assets while Puig is going all in for this season.
-
That Infant Sorrow-Puig of Their Own trade is pretty lopsided. Just throwing that out there. I understand it's one team making a win-now move and one team trading for future assets but damn ...
-
Anyone is available for the right price. Looking for guys who can help next year at reasonable salaries.

Looking to move guys who are banged up (e.g. Snell, Hicks, Ramirez) for playoff depth. Hit me up if you're interested in doing anything (Saturday is the deadline).
-
I didn't mean to veto the Peaky Bunters-Winning Mitch trade. Apologies for that. I hope it doesn't mess it up.
