even as a big league discussion ensued. So thanks Cosby! He has been a fantastic commish, and I really hope he will continue at the healm! In terms of a penalty for my late cuts, I am happy to accept whatever the league wishes, truly. I love this league and am glad I was able to pay and simply keep my team. I can assure you all that I didn't gain any advantage, in all honesty. My life has been so busy this offseason, I'm lucky to have checked in on the league discussion from time to time (con't)

Gents, I am sorry to have caused such a ruckus. I was in a car accident over the weekend and ended up in the hospital. I realize I had many months prior to make my cuts, and admit freely that I shouldn't have waited until the last weekend to do so. But as you all know, life gets busy. Cosby graciously allowed me to make my cuts less than 24 hours after the deadline given the circumstances, and I appreciate the respect he showed by not disclosing my circumstances to the league, even (con't...)

Sounds good to me. I’m ready for baseball!
-
Seems like we're moving on.. dixie sent cuts last night, I am going to run the drops today. Please post here or IM if you are in favor of a small penalty, if 6 or more teams are we will add one player(less than$10 in salary) back to his roster until after the auction. My offer to step down stands, otherwise hopefully we can move on and hopefully avoid this sort of thing in the future.
-
Frankly I was happy Dixie paid his dues and reached out considering until late yesterday he was one of 3 teams that hadn’t paid or done cuts so I assumed I would have to replace 3 teams. Even though they had 4 months to do so.
-
Respectfully, I have a lot going on in my life and I don’t have time to argue about fantasy baseball. I took it over when the original commish decided to step down and I was happy to help but I just want to have fun and play this stupid game I’ve been into since 9th grade. You guys pick who to take over and I will update it in the system. And if you want me to drop out, I’m happy to do that as well. No amount of this game is worth this bs.
-
Like I said, if there are truly extenuating circumstances, I have no problem with a Commissioner's exemption. It's the nonchalance and matter-of-fact vitriol in response to a simple--and legitimate--inquiry that I find rather disconcerting. All I am asking for is transparency and fair treatment across the board. No, this is "not life or death." It is only a game--a fantasy competition on which we all spend time and energy (and $100), so just asking that the rules be consistently enforc

I vote to let Dixie make his appropriate cuts today and move forward
-
Surprised to hear you so quickly resigning/dropping the league Cosby. Respectfully, why take on role of Commish if you’re not willing to withstand half a day of discussion regarding the following of rules.
-
That makes it sound like it's up to league/Commish. I also didn't realize that Cosby had already been in contact with Dixie, and there seems to be a compelling reason, which is good enough for me, so I would again say I'm fine with Cosby working with Dixie to make cuts today.
-
I actually don't think the rules are clear on this. They say if you are over the salary cap, you cannot participate in the auction draft, but the very next line says "Commissioners have the right to remove players from teams that are over limits after the keeper deadline in order to allow them to participate in the Auction Draft. Commissioners should work with the other owners in the league and use their best discretion in making these types of roster moves."
-
Anyone who wants to take over please post here, otherwise I'll figure out how to resign it and leave it blank or just leave the league.
-
It's not my place to share what the circumstances are, you'll just have to trust me or you can ask Dixie himself. As far as the larger conversation, I'm not here to deal with all that so I'm going to step down as commish. I nominate Washtown to take over, but if anyone else wants to volunteer you can.
-
If we are making up our own, it certainly makes sense to get them in writing so that we are all in agreement and understanding. We all have had four months to make cuts and it seems odd that we feel compelled to force an exception to the rule without any explanation. If there are truly extenuating circumstances (e.g., “I was about to click the ‘cuts’ button at 11:58 pm when a meteor suddenly hit my neighbor’s house!”), that’s another story, but either we play by rules and deadlines or we don’t.
-
Just for the record, the rules of Ottoneu are pretty specific and built for this. If cuts are not made by the deadline, the team will need to make enough cuts after the auction (with 50% penalty) to be able to set lineups. Niv (Ottoneu founder), himself, confirms it in this discussion board exchange: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/keeper-deadline-questions/1254/24. Since we have a new commissioner, I am merely seeking clarity if we are following Ottoneu rules, or making up our own on the fly.
-
As the new guy here, you all don't really know me and I don't really know the culture here. That being said, I would be disappointed if a returning owner missed the deadline in any of my leagues. The deadline is almost sacrosanct in insuring league integrity. So sacrosanct that I'm just going to assume there was a compelling reason. I don't know how I would handle it if it happened in the league I commish, but I would be quite pleased if the discussion is as reasonable as it has been here.
-
Want is the wrong word, 3 teams suggested it. If there’s an appetite for it we can discuss but I would rather not take that route.
-
I don’t “want” extended deadline, was just throwing a limited thing out there as an alternate remedy, I’d rather just let it go and add some rule to dissuade it in the future
-
Secondly I am strongly against extending the deadline for other teams, but it sounds like 2 teams at least are for it so if 4 more teams would like to extend it please let me know and we will discuss what that looks like. But, I think that sets a dangerous precedent and will lead to so many complications that at that point I will probably step down as commish and let someone else figure it out.
-
Ok, so seems the consensus is that we should at least add a penalty in the constitution to start with next year's deadline. I'm assuming that we don't have 6 teams that want to block Dixie from making any cuts, but I will give that until tomorrow morning to allow further feedback. At that point, we will have a vote on whether we should add a small penalty after the cuts are complete.
-
I'm fine with no penalty and just sort of note Dixie has a mulligan. Other idea is after his cuts everyone has option (not obligation) of one more cut of low dollar guy.
-
I'm very much against extending the deadline. Dixie should be allowed to make their cuts, and the league can determine if they want a small penalty applied or not. Consensus seems to be no penalty right now.
-
commish, i suggest extend to wed 12 noon so it is fair to everyone since this issue had not been addressed before and lets vote on a penalty (s) for next year or not and just have the hard deadline.

I'm ok with whatever, but another option might be to extend the deadline for everyone.
-
But, Please keep in mind that if Dixie had dropped his team, we would have not only lost a good owner, but the new owner would have gotten the penalty free cuts regardless(not up to the commissioner) which drove my decision to do the drops and move on.
-
today, if there are 6 teams here that don't agree to the cuts at all please let me know(either here or IM if preferred anonymity). If not, I will propose adding one $5-10 player back after the cuts are done until after auction, and we can vote on that.
-
I agree with Sub Zero
-
Interesting feedback, and honestly I'm not sure how to proceed here. Understood we need to get league to sign off(and should have before I offered penalty free cuts for Dixie). I don't know if there's some way to manage the penalty manually, I think we need to either allow the cuts or not. The only option I can think of is to allow most cuts(but force Dixie to keep one 5-10 player until after the auction), but I don't know if that makes sense. So to be clear, Dixie will have his cuts in(cont

to me it has not even been a full day no big deal but we should add a penalty (s) to the by laws for the future i will go along with any vote

But as always, I'm good with whatever the league thinks best, we have a really good group of owners here.
-
I would propose a small "slap on the wrist" type penalty, because as others have noted its a huge advantage to make cuts after the deadline. I would suggest something like a $5 penalty spread as $1 increases across the 5 top kept players. Personally, I think I would pay $5 to be able to make my cuts last so that would hardly be ruining a season, but also discouraging it in the future.
-
I don’t think there should be a penalty. But would have liked a league vote.
-
I tend to agree that we’ve all had plenty of time to make cuts and waiting until after everyone has made theirs is beneficial to some extent. Not to mention, as I’ve checked periodically, Dixie’s “last visit” has been very regular. It’s not like he hasn’t been active.
-
Leniency is certainly the right call. However, it would have been nice to ask permission from the league beforehand as Cicero is right, there is an advantage to knowing what's out there.

Wow, that was a rather hostile reply, Mr. Commissioner. I was simply inquiring if there was a tangible reason for missing the deadline. I am certainly not advocating for anyone's season to be arbitrarily "ruined," but we all had four months to make cuts and there is a mandated "deadline" for a reason, so without knowing any specifics about why the deadline was missed, it would just seem that some sort of "penalty" should be expected. What that "penalty" sh
-
I wondered the same thing myself. That's a huge benefit making cuts with perfect auction information. There were months to make the cuts.
-
As this is a game and not life or death, I figured we wouldn't want to ruin a team's season just because they were unavailable to make cuts. However, in the interest of fairness we will let the league vote. If anyone other than WashTown has an issue with this, please feel free to post in here or reach out via IM. Thanks,
-
Just for the record, why does a returning team get to make cuts after the deadline "via commissioner action so no penalty"?
-
Looks like we're running it back with the same group. Dixie's cuts will be in today(Via commissioner action so no penalty). Matt Manning has been moved from Mama's to Lumber Jacks. Time to prep for the auction!
-
Still a couple teams haven’t paid, if not settled by the 1st teams will be abandoned and we will find new owners. Thanks!
-
Open to offers on voit devers or Diaz

Still looking for a SS and a 1B before the cut deadline next week.

Good Morning all, gentle reminder that the cut deadline is January 31st, as well as the deadline to pay to renew for another season. If you have had a change of heart and decided not to return for next season, please let me know so we can work to add a new owner. Thanks!
-
Have some interest in devers. Looking for multiple cheap keepers
-
That is an A+ league name. "Hi everyone, my name is Jack and I'm an Ottoholic"
-
Hey all ... this particular league is my favorite format I have played in so I have started another league just like this one ... $100 entry ... 5x5 ... 10 man MiLB. You should be able to find it from the Dashboard: "Ottoholics Anonymous". Hope to see some of you there!

Ok, Auction is scheduled for Sunday March 7 at 8:30pm ET. Please let me know if you have any issues with that date.
-
Early March works for me. My preference would be a weekend
-
I'd vote for Feb, but anything fine by me
-
My head says wait until Mar/Apr but I'd love to draft in Feb :)
