It's Chris Sale's fault. But yes -- Kevin's explanation makes total sense.
-
How Hitch and Kevin explain it is how I understood it.
-
Yes. And when the salary exceeds the cap, a personโs lineup is illegal until they fix it, like always

So our โhard capโ is on the size of our salary cap...but not on our salaries?
-
We have two numbers on our lineup page, a salary and a salary cap. Picking up a player only changes the first (the salary) which does not violate the constitution any more than adding a 41st player does. You are then required to get your lineup legal ASAP. Once you do, you are fine. In no case does does this alter the salary CAP of your team, which can only be changed by receiving loans via trade. Acquiring guys off of waivers or auctions cant violate the constitution in my opinion.
-
Sorry, I donโt think Iโm making up rulesโthis is how I understood it all along. As far as I can remember weโve always talked about a strict limit thru June 1. Maybe Iโm wrong about how I understood that, but I didnโt think it meant โa strict limit in this case, but not this other case.โ
-
Yes, it is. In every ottoneu league that is the case. That doesn't mean it's not a hard cap. A soft cap doesn't mean not allowing an illegal lineup for 30 minutes, it means paying a tax for staying over, which is what we'll have starting in June. You're making it confusing and trying to make up rules midseason. Stop, please.

Not if you can exceed it, then fix it retroactively.
-
It is a hard cap.

Hard cap should be a hard cap. Also makes the game more interesting, by forcing harder decisions.
-
Hold up guys. OF COURSE it would be okay for you to bid on Sale, and then drop someone afterwards to get legal. You're not increasing your cap above 425 to acquire him. You're just going over it, like people do all the time when landing FA's. You just then have to take steps to get legal again before you can set your lineup or do anything else. Let's not confuse our arbitrary limit which applies to receiving loans with standard Ottoneu rules.

If someone wins an auction that increases their salary above the cap, I think the penalty should be a vote by the league on who gets cut to make it legal.
-
I assume whoever started this auction would make a last-minute cut, right before it ends, to make it legal (eg, hypothetically you could cut Donaldson at 8:22 am tomorrow, which looks like it would give you enough to take on Sale at the minimum bid).
-
I donโt think so.
-
Hypothetically, would it be legal for me to bid on and win Sale (cap is already $424) and then dropped Aaron Judge to clear sufficient cap and roster space even though I'd briefly cross the salary cap?
-
Well this is gonna be interesting. The most currently available capspace that can bid on Sale is $11. He's a min 26 bid.

"Be"
-
Just get forewarned, Big Brother is watching (your salary cap)...
-
After our trade goes thru, I Da Ho will be at $424, i.e., still legal.
-
Nah, just whatever the cap is. Mine sits at 402. I'd be illegal if I traded for $24 loan

Trying to figure out exactly how to monitor the caps. Should we be looking at the base salary plus cap penalty?

Jorge Polanco really going out of his way to embarrass me

Alonso clear front runner for nl roy. Massive power, Stanton like.

The Mets "do not have a high level of concern" about Jacob deGrom's elbow at the moment, @martinonyc reports.
Well, that makes one of us. If any of you trust the Mets to handle this correctly, right now is the time to steal DeGrom from me.

deGrom going for an MRI on his elbow. Anyone want him in this moment for 75cents on the dollar before we learn more?

Thanks, though, for reminding me that I need to go up to Rome to watch Pache continue his ongoing slaughter of AA pitching. The Andruw-level defense almost seems like itโs just a bonus now.
-
Hmm. Maybe...but this is my opposite-George league, so Iโm focused on probably over-the-hill guys instead of 20 year olds who have maybe a 5% chance of being a superstar. Who do you expect me to cut? I guess Busty Poseur could be a possibility, if Trevor Rosenthal didnโt exist.

Bat nominated Pache i bet
