Anyone want a $33 Syndergaard?
-
...er, ribs.
-
Sounds like thatโs already resolved. But yeah, he should have plenty of time. To heal the shoulder. Along with Hicks and Stanton. So much for my Tauchman pick. Damned early drafts.
-
I donโt know how long it takes a lung to un-collapse, but heโs got a lot of time to heal before missing a game.

Time to cut bait and run
-
Judge with a partially collapsed lung. That's a tad more concerning than a cracked rib.
-
Big mistake. All this time off with Kate Upton and he is taking his groin out of commission?
-
Verlander had groin surgery, out 6 weeks
-
Judge and Verlander should be careful about covid in their frail states
-
And no college world series
-
I enjoy rooting against Duke, Kentucky , and Kansas
-
Brackets and the field of 64 , the first two days especially, are one of the very best things in all sports
-
I knew it was never going to happen but I was sort of hoping to see final-4 games played in an empty Mercedes Benz Stadium. Iโm sure the dirty birds built a system to pipe in fake crowd noise when they need it; with some clever camera work maybe CBS could convince us everything was normal.
-
The least they could do is quarantine the players for two weeks, then have a reboot of spring training, and start the season May 1, with no crowds. At least we could listen on the radio and watch on tv.
-
My life is devoid of purpose :(
-
Ha. Take that Dr. Drew. Maybe Judge and Verlander WILL be ready for opening day.
-
When do folks think the season will actually start? June 1?
-
Opening day delayed:

Grade 2 latstrains usually taking at least a month. Grade 3 strains often require surgery, however, and can come with considerably longer recovery periods. Oof, that sounds no bueno for Verlander.
-
I'm waiting on Drew's update on Verlander
-
Nails on a chalkboard , yet new yorkers love him
-
Russo is possibly the worst person in sports media. Heโs certainly in contention with Stephen A and Kellerman and Skip and everyone at BR or Fox, but I think he wins. He is unique in both his idiocy and grating voice; He brings absolutely nothing to the table.

Much as I admire what Pete accomplished , I'd still rather have Freeman if salaries were relatively close to each other .
-
Iโd shoot myself if the option was to listen to those guys.
-
Also, Chris Carter? That seems like a cruel comp. Dude leads the league in HRs and his reward is the Brewers non-tendering him? I doubt thatโs ever happened to anyone else. Wikipedia suggests heโs playing in Mexico, at least last year.
-
Yes, clod at 1B, could be larger part of platoon with Dom. But that had nothing to do with his bat. Some examples from Met fan sites, one confident https://www.amazinavenue.com/2019/2/1/18201443/mets-top-25-mets-prospects-2019-1-1b-peter-alonso-new-york and one a little uncertain about the hit (not power) tool https://metsmerizedonline.com/2019/02/mmo-top-25-prospects-no-2-pete-alonso.html/ .
-
You must not listen to Fransessa of Mad Dog Russo
-
well, my office in Stamford is die hard Mets fans, who intesnly follow down to R league (they are still bitching about Kelnic to Seattle ). They told me he was a clod at 1b , and would platoon with Dominic Smith a year ago . Wasnt supposed to even make opening day roster
-
You might have thought he was Trumbo, and I think actual scouts considered that a possible outcome, but I donโt think they thought it was necessarily likely. Two examples: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/48078/the-call-up-pete-alonso/ and https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-25-prospects-new-york-mets/ .
-
i sort of thought he would be like Chris Carter formerly of the Brewers , who also had raw power, enough to be NL HR champ in recent memory
-
Myself and mostly everyone thought Alonso to be similar to Trumbo, Mark Reynolds etc..He never stopped mashing even when pitchers tried to adjust to him. He also worked his tale off to be s serviceable 1b , not a dh occupying the slot
-
Why would Hilliard be a favorite to get more HRs than a full-time Adell? Or Zack Collins with full time at bats? Or your guy Jones? Or if you believe in PCL home runs, Kevin Cron? (Or the 4 or 5 other PCL guys who had more HRs/AB than Hilliard?)
-
Brew, Alonso was an actual prospect, with 70/80 raw power. Youโre right, no one predicted 50+, no one ever does. While 30+ was certainly a surprise in 2019, it wasnโt that surprising, thatโs what that level of raw pop means. He was legendary for MiLB exit velocity. (No one talks about Hilliard like this, heโs more a 60 raw guy.) Alonso wasnโt a great prospect because he was a fringy 1B who might be DH only, but the bat wasnโt a question.
-
Itโs not just ABQ...they get to play most of their road games in SLC, Vegas, and El Paso. Here are the PCL home run leaders in 2019. Kevin Cron, 38 in 305 ABs, jesus.... (zips is a believer in him). http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=l_bat&lid=112&sid=l112
-
Plus you have to consider that the Rockies chronically and pathologically screw over their promising rookies...
-
Well, yeah, ABQ is Coors+, and Iโm sure thatโs why his performance is being discounted in the projections, just saying the 35HR in 125 games is a lot and wasnโt something I was aware of.

A 107 wRC+ "pummeled AAA"? Maybe he just got to hit in the best hitting environment in the history of baseball. Anything is possible I guess (though even if he really turns out to have Trout-like power and speed, the LOL Rockies might still send Hampson out instead 3 out of 4 games), but I'll take the under on next Pete Alonso.
-
projection systems for Alonso last year said slow footed clumsy platoon 1b
-
i didnt mean excatly...who hits 50 HR rookie or vet? I meant coming from relative obscurity to post big numbers
-
Wow I didnโt realized Hilliard pummeled AAA last season to that extent. I get the comparison, but geez the projection systems arenโt buying it. Not even a tiny bit.

This year's Pete Alonso may be big Sam Hilliard, who Mikey has rostered
-
Hmm, cracked ribs take awhile to heal. Had it happen to me last year. No fun...especially swinging a bat.
-
I'm shocked bader-oneil-grichuk are still on waiver wire
-
Is it possible that Seth Beer will go unclaimed in this league, of all leagues?
-
Worry about your own guys, Drew. We dont need you worrying about our IL. We will work through this unfortunate setback. We have our eyes on opening day and hope that Aaron can get this healed during spring training and provides months of production in the middle of our order.
-
Looks like Judge will be out for awhile. Broken rib.
-
Never mind found it.
-
How's the whole cap structure work again do we have that accessible anywhere?
-
Yeaa I beat Charles to first trade of the season
-
Nice to get and make trade offers too
