just made a bunch of cuts, but I'll also be cutting at least one of the 5MiLB guys too, once they're promoted
-
Commish, please promote all 5 of my 5MiLB guys (Montgomery, Gilbert, Caissie, Ramos, Iriarte). Let me know if I need to cut guys first to make room.
-
I think that works just fine!

haha thanks. yeah give me until saturday night to figure out my cuts, and i'll be ready for the 5MiLB draft by sunday morning if that works
-
WAIT!?!? We've got The Babe back!? Awesome news and welcome back!! So you're aware, we were trying to kick off the 5 MiLB this weekend. You might take a look at promotions to the active roster (if you've got time, I don't want to rush you), before you make your round of penalty free cuts though. Easier to do it all at once probably.

Babe Ruth's Pants! Such a great name. Welcome back!
-
hey y'all, i just took over Bandicoots. I was in this league from 2016-2021, before taking a few years off from ottoneu. Glad to be back in the game!
-
I believe we have a new owner and are a full league now?

And yes, I’m assuming the new Bandicoots owner will want to clean up that roster a bit and make some promotions, because currently they have no MiLB picks.

We don’t have to decide on 2026 any time soon. I mainly just didn’t want to surprise anyone in 2026.

Just confirming, the MiLB draft is now postponed until we get a new owner for Bandicoots' team?
-
Yeah I assumed that considering the late regular draft date! What is the best way to decide as commissioner? I prefer before, but it isn't a big deal to me if it's after. We would all be under the same rules and Vegas you bring up some good points about being able to stash true propsects if the draft is after. I drafted 5 miilb guys last year and 4 got called up to the big leagues
-
I want to add, maybe I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t looking at changing things for this season, it would be for the 2026 season.

Multiple times, to your point North Coast I've wondered if the MLB draft and those draftees could/should be kind of off limits...but I'm not entirely sure if I'm a fan. I think it creates an interesting dynamic, I just don't know how we'd monitor that??

I do believe that the rule that was originally in place that players who were owned up until the cut date WEREN'T available at draft was probably intended for just this reason. If we wanted to implement that again, we could...but I think that limits long play guys (like maybe Walker Jenkins, who is a ways off...but probably rostered, etc.). So, I think (hope) pushing it until after our draft would normalize some of that.

I LOVE prospects. I am a big card collector, and actually doing this helps inform my buying. What I like about the other leagues format is that it actually forces me to really dig in on prospects to try to mine gems. Here's a link to last years draft in the other league. I think you'll see a lot of good talent available at the top, it just makes the most obvious guys (like Skenes, etc.) unavailable for $0 to the team with the least amount of points.

Sorry, was replying to Vegas a few posts down.
-
That makes sense. On a note similar to elite guys going at auction, it was pretty wild to see the summer's 1st Rd picks get scooped up off waivers mid-season (again, I played that myself, but I'd buy arguments on it being an issue)! I'm wondering if that's something that we'd want to change alongside hypothetically moving the MiLB draft?
-
When I joined the league, I believe that I had Wander Franco and Julio Rodriguez in my 5MiLB. Great stashes, like Christian mentioned, but still a few years away from being true MLB contributors.
-
If it's a deal breaker for Vegas, I'm listening. I appreciate your efforts and enjoy this league. Personally, I love the Milb draft before the main draft. Everyone has a chance at the hottest prospects during the prior season. Giving teams two bites at the auction cherry doesn't leave a lot to pick over. There aren't too many can't miss guys in the Milb draft for this coming year as it is. But again, I'm open to anything.
-
I think the simple adjustment is just pushing the MiLB draft until AFTER the regular draft. Guys like Skenes, Crews and Anthony go at auction (which they should). I'm in a different 5 MiLB league, and as an example last years Top 5 picks were: Luis Lara, Walker Jenkins, Carson Williams, Max Clark and Matt Shaw. Still really good talent, but at the time much more developmental, younger guys that are awesome stashes.

Are there examples from other Otto leagues with MiLB that we could look to for potential tweaks or is this a pretty standard setup? For instance, some kind of eligibility threshold for the draft and/or MLB auction that would provide more balance? I'm open to consensus adjustments and am admittedly guilty of all of the above when it comes to prospect acquisition in my first year, so am curious to hear more from the field.
-
But at the same time Skenes and Dylan Crewes should have been in the main draft due to their odds of making an immediate impact
-
My first year in the league (2 seasons ago), I was such a newb and drafted Jhonkensy Noel with the first overall pick. I think there was a rule change to prevent foreign super stars like sasaki from being in the draft. Maybe if a player is more than 50% owned at the final roster cut date they do not qualify for MIILB? Skenes was a free agent last year in another league and went for 11 dollars in the draft, so I do think his success and availability was a freak situation.
-
But as a team that's trying to be competitive every year, I'm only looking to draft guys that will contribute this year in my standard draft. My MiLB guys should be a couple years away. The guys that will contribute quickly, this season, should not be guys available in the MiLB draft. Again, just my humble opinion.
-
If someone wants to draft a bunch of highly touted prospects that are a couple years away during the standard draft, and stash them on their roster for a couple years with
arbitration and everything else, that's their choice to hold and develop. And just like real prospects, that should be a hard choice, to hold on and hope or to cut loose if they're not contributing.
-
I find it amusing that the team that added every MiLB prospect known to man to his roster last year during the season is concerned about MiLB scarcity moving forward...
In my opinion, and it's just my opinion... The guys on your MiLB should be 2-3 years out from making the bigs.
A guy like Skenes last year should not have been an MiLB pick.
If the standard draft had been first, he would've been drafted at what his true value should have been, not an MiLB guy promoted for
-
I got so lucky with Skenes last year. This year and other years seem more reflective of the talent available in a MIILB draft. The only reason why Skenes was available was because he went for like 25 dollars in the auction draft and was dropped. I am definitely open to rule changes / reforms though.
-
It almost incents teams to fail on the backend, and then NO ONE else has a shot at the guys at the top of the draft.

I'll honestly admit, this might be a deal breaker for me coming back next season. The numbers just become too disparate. This isn't like a threat to make it happen, I just don't like the league dynamic all that well.
Vegas Baby on
February 13, 2025 5:29 PM
-
Hmmm...conversely, I think the disparity comes from rostering like a $0 Skenes. 5 MiLB should be used to help supplement rosters, and should help with future development, etc., but a generational guy going for $0 is kind of wild. If you're trying to get "better", that should be done in season or at the draft in my opinion.

I agree with Piskijikers. I think teams would overly draft MIILB's during the regular draft making teams less competitive. Then after 5 x 12 MIILB picks, there would be a scarcity of MIILB players available over the season.
-
Why?

I disagree. Should definitely be before the regular draft

No issues from me, I think it makes sense to have the MiLB draft after the standard draft anyways...

Still no owner on Bandicoots...we're likely to push the draft. Also, one thing I'd really like to change for next years MiLB draft is pushing it until directly after our standard MLB draft. Any concerns?

What's the plan for Bandicoots' old team if it still doesn't have an owner by the draft on 2/15?

But on that front, March 10th at 7:00 PM EST looks like the best spot.
