I don't mind changing to a cap of 10 GS per week, if that's what folks want. Still waiting to hear if anyone has a problem w/changing; if no one says anything by Friday evening, then I'll change it.

Personally, I'd prefer a 7-8 GS cap, but I could see the argument for a 10 GS cap is a balance between the two and would be easier for teams to get to if they had the 5 open SP slots each day.
-
In my other league, we are having a vote on a cap of 7, 8, 9, 10 or No cap.
Cigar -- I don't think anyone is saying there was any shenanigans with your strategy. It was allowed by the rules and clearly was the best strategy to give yourself the best chance to win. The numbers clearly show that. However, that doesn't mean its the best format for the game.
-
lol, okay, okay raghav, i hear you. i'm just sayin', i don't think i had a pitcher over $20, and I did just fine. I chose quantity over quality BECAUSE of the SP restrictions. i don't think there's any shenanigans w/that strategy.
Is there anyone dead set AGAINST adding a 10 start weekly cap for SPs? if not, we'll go ahead w/the change.

I strongly support the GS Cap in order to get 5SP slots a day, and also support making it as close to 14 as the site will allow. If that is 10, so be it.
-
Natty, I dont think you are understanding our frustration here. None of us really realized this restriction when we drafted our teams. Its natural to draft the best pitchers, or ones you think are good value. You don't draft guys thinking, hey, they may routinely pitch the same day, because they slot into the same spot on the rotation. It was beyond frustrating to have guys who SHOULD have been able to play, not be able to, because of a site restriction.
-
I don't know what the perfect balance is. What I do know is that last year's game was tremendously unbalanced. Even if I was against a GS cap, I would still vote for it to get the 5 SP slots per day. Nothing is more frustrating than having 3 SPs you want to start and only being able to pick 2 of them and having those same pitchers stay on the same schedule for weeks at a time.
-
So...play more pitchers? I mean, I think we'll have people trying to max out IP no matter what the cap is, whether it's 2 SP per day (so 14 possible per week), or 10 per week, no? And, whoever maxes their IP (and, their BAs) will have more points? To be honest, I'm not sure it will make that big of a difference either way, but that's one of the reasons why I don't think it needs to be changed.
New owners, do you guys have opinions or preferences for this?

That's not a criticism. More power to you and the other owners who recognized that getting as many SPs as you could and maxing out the 14 starts was the best way to try to win. But, I don't know if its really going to be all that much fun where the game is decided by who can get and start the most SPs. Putting a cap on GS will bring value back to hitters and relievers. Teams without elite starters can compete by using their money on hitters and looking for cheaper but more durable starters.
-
Hitting really only mattered if/when teams were close in IP. And, if there was a gap in IP, the quality of those IP was less important than the sheer number of IP. My team averaged 1.25 more points per IP than yours did but it didn't matter because you had over 500 more IP than I did and there was no way to make up that difference through hitting, a better bullpen, etc.
-
Cigar -- Reasonable minds can disagree, but, unfortunately, what happened last year was that the top 5 teams in points had the top 5 most IP. The 2 teams in the finals were 1 and 2 in IP. The bottom 4 teams, which were also the only teams with losing records, were also the bottom 4 teams in IP. Coming as close as you could to maxing out 14 starts per week was the biggest determining factor in who won and who lost. If you had a lot of IP, you were more likely to win.
-
Being able to have fewer starts just means that it's tougher for teams w/o the elite aces; Innings Pitched gets you points, so mediocre pitchers, in volume, can help teams w/o the elite SPs. For instance, I used James Shields a lot last season (6th most IP on my team; I didn't have a great staff, lol). Now, we all know Shields sucks, but he was an innings eater. Since Innings Pitched is a stat category, I feel like it should be okay to try and target players who get you lots of innings.

I haven't played ottoneu before and never had to track how often my SPs starts are on the same day. Is this a real problem? If so, I'd support the GS cap to solve that.
-
I feel GS caps should be implemented and agree with virgins, that it allows us to be able to be on the same playing field as others who may in that given week have more starters going or more two start pitchers in said week. Especially in a head to head format, I feel GS caps should always be added. To your point, No Cigar on if a GS cap is added, it would only enhance value to the aces. But, pitchers are already valuable to begin with. Again, that is my two cents and curious on others takes.
-
Nope, unfortunately the GS cap options are: 0, 7, 8, 9, or 10. (Zero means we keep things as is.) I certainly savvy the argument for more SP slots; but, less (possible) starts doesn't make much sense to me. Having said that, if the league wants GS caps, then we'll change it.

To address Natty's point, if we instituted a 14 GS CAP, nothing changes, except we would be able to start more guys on a given day, up to 5, which is a huge improvement!!!
-
OH MY GOD THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZINGLY GREAT DEVELOPMENT. Seriously, one of my major ottoneu gripes has been that fantasy managers have exactly ZERO control over which days their pitchers start, and if you draft or own #1 SP, they often start the same day. This means that you don't get to play your guys and get their true performance over full year, which is a HUGE travesty.
-
Personally, I think we already have a GS cap at 14 (two per day). I don't really think we need to lower this, as streaming SPs from the wire already costs cap space, and a tighter cap on starts will only further enhance the value of SPs (and, they're already super valuable). But, I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks. Do we want to have a vote on changing things to a tighter GS cap? Or, nah, keep things as they are? Let us know.

OK, sorry, I wasn't up to date on the Games Started (GS) cap that can be instituted this season. Basically, if we want, we can cap the amount of SP starts per week: "With a cap, there are up to 5 SP slots available on the lineup page each day, less if a team has fewer than 5 starts left for the matchup. Without a cap, there are 2 SP slots available on the lineup page each day. This setting will affect any playoffs for this league in addition to the regular season."

Hi Tulsa, welcome to the league, glad to have you. We've only been in existence for one year and we've had a lot of turnover, so hopefully we have a stable crew of owners going forward. Just to let everyone know: I'm Natty (No Cigar), the commish of the league. If you have any questions or concerns, please holler so we can all discuss. Hope you all had a nice TDay!

Sick, out of the others, Lexington Ivy, Alameda Naturals, Dimond Heist, Pablo Sanchez and Vestal virgins, the last activity on Ottoneu was by Lexington Ivy and that was all the way back on Sept 11. Should we start posting about the league before arbitration period ends?
-
I'm definitely staying. Haven't fucked with arbitration yet but I will

Got the five teams who have put in arbitration dollars, no cigar should be back as he was co commish this year I am guessing? Ace Deuce seemed pretty active at the end of the season as he made a pick up on Aug 22 so feel he should be back? So hopefully just need to find five owners?

I am staying also.

Would be nice to know who is going to be part of the league and not so we can get going on finding members before arbitration ends.

Can we please get a headcount of owners who are staying or going? I see Good Guy & OC Twins have done their arbitrations for the season so I'm going to assume they are continuing. Anyone dropping out for sure? Anyone on the fence? Thanks dudes, and if you need a refresher on Arbitration let me know!

Welp. Looks like I spoke too soon. -74 for my two starters yesterday makes this hill a lot harder to climb.

Yeah, that was brutal TFOD. And yeah I got the FEAR right now. To add just a splash more drama, No Cigar is my best friend so the bragging rights here are immense. Kluber throwing a negative game was not what we traded for. Dude needs to get his head screwed on straight or he’s getting cut this offseason. And Artemis, I didn’t see your message from before. Thank ya, and good luck next year. We’ll probably need to gather a few new owners but this league has promise for sure.
