I put Jobe on the trade block, if any of the rebuilding teams are interested. He's out for the year, so no use to me, alas.

Everyone remembers that we can re-auction our cut guys after 30 days & then cut them again to regain salary, yeah? I see some rosters with guys that are costing their teams more than they need to.

I have a coupla few strong RPs (7+ PPG) that are $1 each. Kyle Leahy has 9th most holds in MLB and is top 25 in total points for RP. Jack Dreyer is also top 25 in total points for RP.
I'm looking to consolidate for a cheap backup catcher or a cheap SP. Holler if you could use a cheap bullpen upgrade.

Only 196 MLB players have achieved 400 doubles. Two more players are nearly there:
Carlos Santana (398) - Mill Street Maestros
Nolan Arenado (397) - Cole World
Good luck to those guys! I hope they close. The deal this week.
-
Welcome back, Ronald Acuna! I thought you at $20 was a play for next season, but I'll take paying you half the average this season, too.

Drake Baldwin is a great add. I already have three solid-hitting catchers (a bit of a surprise!) so couldn't compete for another...but Baldwin is great!
-
sigh, nice add, Carita. buncha good young catchers this season! and more on the way.

For those impacted by the today's resumption of Monday's Twins-Guardians game, I believe Ottoneu's data provider will move the resumed game stats to Monday's data, where they should have accumulated. It may create temporary data oddities on today, however. (Data corrections usually occur overnight.)
Also, for OPL (Cigar), resumed game stats do NOT count. Today, OPL will only count the actual Wednesday game. (It would count two games if today was an actual double header, though.)
-
I think about it now & then, but I always end up thinking I'm being too clever by half, and I'm just outsmarting myself, so I let it ride.

AND…I just hit a HR against myself! 😂
-
So yeah, same logic you use. Basically it’s insurance against the pitcher giving up home runs.
-
I do start hitters against my own pitchers: if the pitcher gives up a dong against my own hitter and I don’t start them, it’s worth -12.3. If I start the hitter, it’s only worth -2.9. And yes, it would be best to avoid the negative points altogether, but then you’re gambling on that hitter getting a home run and forgoing any points from the pitcher.
-
To CORRECT MYSELF: A lot of Ottoneu players will not roster their own hitters or pitchers against one another. I do. But I also lack HR power, so maybe I'm not the type of manager to be concerned!
-
Do you avoid rostering hitters when you control an opposing pitcher? Or vice versa? I know a lot of Ottoneu players will not, but I do. I figure you only lose 2.6 pts per single, double or triple (for the -2.6 assigned the pitcher per hit). HRs, however, are a negative exchange (-0.9 pts overall, I think). Otherwise, you miss out on all the points the pitcher might get against other hitters if you rest the pitcher.
How do you handle it?
-
GOD DAMMIT YOU PUNKS STOP STEALING MY WAIVER WIRE GUYS
-
Congrats to you two for making the cut! (Sorry, Carita.)

wow, I hit 170 for OPL on the dot, as close as it gets! good luck in next round, Northern, and better luck next year, Carita!

It's the final day of OPL Round 1, Carita and Cigar! Get your boppers in the lineup. I had a rare day with HRs yesterday (6) and moved up 20+ places and across the cut line. The teams in the 160 - 180 zone are all within 50 pts of the current cut line (170), so it'll be easy to rise or tumble around it. Good luck!
-
SIX TEAMS with 8-6 record! Don't think I've seen that before. Good to see your fightin No Cigars back in that top point spot.

Anyone interested in C. Walker? Starting to bounce back and I could use some salary relief
-
I'd need to jump around 30 spots in order to not get cut, so I doubt I'll make it. Best of luck to you & Carita! Next year, I'll need to remember that my first iteration of the team matters a helluva lot more in OPL than in our ottoneu league (I like to gradually build up my 'pen, rather than spend on it in the draft).

Alright, Carita and Cigar! The three of us have 10 days until the OPL makes cuts. My squad has taken a couple weeks off hitting (if not R&R on the IL) and last week my pitchers (like many in the league) were REALLY not into their work. Even Skenes was a disaster. I have dropped below the cut line. Maybe Cigar and I can post 1000 pt weeks in our H2H (which to judge by history for me would be Cigar besting me by < 50 pts ... because close but no cigar). Good luck to all!
-
With Glasnow and now Burnes out, I had to go for it. One can never have too much pitching.
-
If Gonsolin returns to his former self, that's great value, Alameda, bravo, that's the kinda pickup that wins you leagues, goddamnit i shoulda gone ten

Yeah and I’m pretty sure I didn’t make the playoffs that year lol. Ottoneu game 2001 Mariners.
-
Okay. July 8 "week" in 2024 was extended, so Carita and Lake Gage: no soup for you! Carita and Cigar have some 1000+ pt weeks in the historical record, but I keep finding they were extended weeks.
OH! Hahaha. June 6 - 12, 2022: Lake Gage posted 1120 pts.
Maybe 1000-pt week should be a "Loony"!
-
A "Jhoan"? A fine idea. BUT: I need to see if/when it's been accomplished before...in a regular 7-day week. In random checks of H2H results from 2024 (via /tools/rivals/2024), I find that at least Ace Deuce, Carita, and Lake Gage all accomplished a 1000-pt week. However, Ace's happened in the extended Week 1 (so included March 20/21 games overseas); and Carita and Lake Gage did it week of July 8--which MIGHT have been a "long" week near All-Star. The July 8 seems solid though
-
How about we call it a Jhoan?
-
I do not expect to experience this sort of week again, where nearly every decision I made maximized my point output. It was fun while it lasted, and I expect the bill for my devil's bargain to come due soon.
The 1000 point word comment is making me think of the Washington's Dream SNL sketch.
"It seems like we should have a word for a 1000 point week, sir."
"And yet we won't."
-
WELL DONE! It's really quite amazing how dominant the Jhoans have been without being gaudily dominant. For example, Ottoneu highly rewards power ... but his squad is ranked #11 in HRs! He's doing it through a lineup of crazy consistency on both sides, being ranked #2 in both P/G and P/IP. That's very satisfying ... if you run the team! :) Great job, Jhoans.
There should be a term for a 1000 pt week
-
A HUGE round of applause for the Jhoans, who just hit quadruple figures. Crazy things are happening in that clubhouse.
-
You were merely subject to the Iron Law of Ottoneu - you will always start the disaster and sit the miracle. We are all subject in our own time to the Iron Law. This is the way.
-
Did I leave eugenio on my bench? Yes because ai am a moron
-
And great to see that you and Carita are in OPL too! Best of luck to you all!
-
Thank you, Cigar! It's a nice thing...though I suspect a fair drop in the standings is coming before the first cut line (which comes up way too quick). There's no way my pitching staff can continue the low BB and HR rates. And the snapshot roster system is a huge difficulty factor. But I like the OPL challenge!
-
whoa, Northern, top 75 in OPL, bravo

I think I speak for all of us when I offer my condolences to our brother Mill City Maestros and, well, while we’re at it, Nestor Cortes and those 5 poor baseballs who probably were on their last day before retirement.

TIMELINE REMINDER: MLB gets underway again on Thursday mid-afternoon! Be sure to check who is making opening day rosters, who is injured, and who you might want to pick up on waivers prior to the first wave of lineups locking. And don't forget to set your lineup! Good luck, friends.
-
i would have forgiven him if he had heads shoulders knees and toes. But alas, memories is all I will have henceforth

Dang, Vestal! You pushed Stanton until his elbows fell apart--and then you discarded him like expired meat. He's got a family to feed!
-
SEASON START REMINDER: The Cubs-Dodgers get underway at 6:10 am EASTERN tomorrow morning. Update your active lineup immediately if you have CHC & LAD players, if you want them to count. There's no retroactive adjustments.
-
REMINDER: Draft starts in a little less than 90 minutes! 7:30 pm EASTERN. See you there!
-
Hey y’all! Just a reminder that the draft is tonight at 7:30 PM EST. See you then!
