Voted, I understand the reasoning for the AB/IP max now. FYI if this goes through (hopefully) you guys will need to be patient with me on the slow draft. I'll be on vacation from
March 30th-April 06. I'll have internet intermittently but with the time zone difference it could be a half a day before I register my pick.

Okay, set up the poll. It will run through Friday, 03/22. Here's the link (please only complete it once): http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/kjrqmp/foulballs-milb-poll
-
Nice summary. Anonymous or not is ok with me.
-
Lg thatβs a good idea. Do u want to start a poll to see if all teams want to add milb rosters for the 2019 season?
-
Seems like there are 4 things to potentially vote on: 1) do we want to add a MILB supplemental roster; if so, then 2) 5 or 10 man; 3) start this season or next off-season; and 4) AB/IP maximums for MiLB roster eligibility (1/1 or 130/50). Should we set up a quick anonymous poll to gauge people's preferences?
-
definitely count me in for MiLB rosters. Did a fresh 25 team 50-man roster dynasty draft in december/january (it took 5 weeks). so my research is done :)

I actually like the mlb requirement on ab and ip due to the fact that u can see what your prospect is doing before u make a decision. I will not hold up the milb draft if u want to put an adjustment on ip or ab. Tho.
-
We also have a rule that if you try to draft an ineligible player (e.g., someone on someone else's 40 man roster, 10 MiLB roster, someone not ROY eligible, or someone not in the Ottoneu universe), then you lose your pick until your next turn. So it encourages teams to do their homework, which makes the draft run smoother. I didn't enforce it in the first round (to allow people to get used to the setup) and it hasn't been an issue in later rounds.
-
Yep, exactly. This imposes a bit of an administrative burden on the commissioner since he has to manage the draft, enter data into the spreadsheet, enter the player as restricted in Ottoneu, and probably cross him off his own list (at least that's what I do). So the current setup ensures that 48 hour auctions can't be started for a player on the 10 man MiLB roster.
-
Yes, different strokes. I think the strategic decision point added by making it 1AB/1IP is just as interesting and fits better to a league that has already drafted. That's the way we're doing it in another league I'm in and I like that it allows people to use the MILB roster as a way to MILB players, as opposed to manage MLB players. I think the 130 AB/50 IP would be fine in a new league but since it slightly devalues prospects already on rosters I think it should be avoided.
-
Just for clarification purposes, if you can answer it. once you own a player on ur MilLB roster he is protected from other owners starting an auction on them? These players show up as restrictive players?

As it happens, only two players taken so far in our 7 rounds have any MLB experience: Rowdy Tellez (42 AB) and Myles Straw (9 AB). So it's not like there's a wide field of MiLB guys with MLB experience just under the ROY threshold.
-
service time is difficult to find in-season. I'm not totally adverse to reducing the thresholds, but I do think that a strategic decision point is lost by doing so.
-
Gio Gonzalez wouldn't be eligible under the proposed rules because he's not ROY eligible (he exhausted his ROY eligibility a decade ago). The purpose of ROY eligibility rather than 1 AB/IP is to allow a team to choose whether to bring up a September callup or not. If so, then he's eligible for salary arbitration. So it introduces a strategic decision if he could help a team out in the current year. I might change it in my other league to just 130 AB/50 IP because...
-
I will give everyone some time to look it over. I posted Lg rules on slack if anyone wants to look at them. We can amend or change anything u like, but I think Lg has a good foundation and the MILB rules are well thought out. Please review and get back to me if u object to putting this in this year by 3-26. All objections will be confidential. If we dont have any objections we will move forward after 3-26.
-
I'm also good with starting this year. Why wait, if everyone is on board.

For example, Gio Gonzo is currently signed to a minor league deal with the yankee's, he could be drafted via the MiLB draft.

I think adding any language makes it' more difficult to manage. This is new to me, so maybe I'm missing something. We do our typical draft and if teams choose to utilize their 40 man roster for MiLB players, then that's their prerogative. After the draft we start the slow auction via slack for MiLB players (I would suggest 10 players max per team, that's 120 prospects). Any player currently playing in the minors or playing overseas can be drafted.

Its simpler, easier to verify, and less disruptive given how people would have otherwsie drafted. $.02
-
To this:
The following players are ineligible for MiLB$0 status and cannot be drafted:
β
Unsigned (amateur or foreign) players
Players with any MLB experience (1 PA or 1 IP)
Any player that is currently owned by another team in the league
-
I'd suggest we change this language:
- MLB Rookie of the Year eligible (i.e., has less than 130 MLB At Bats [if hitter], 50 IP [if pitcher], and has less than 45 days of MLB service time
-
The Lone Gunmen's trade block has been updated!

How it's set up in Best Damn 5x5 is that you can only move players from MiLB to the 40 man. If you have a prospect on your 40 man, then to move him to the MiLB you'd have to release him (i.e., expose him to waivers), not have someone add him via a 48 hour auction before the next MiLB draft, and then successfully select him at the next semi-annual draft. So it would be very risky to try to demote a player since there are three chances of losing him (waivers, possible auction, MiLB draft).
-
Iβm all for it. My only question is what happens to the prospects we currently have now with a salary attached to them. Would we be able to move them over and receive the roster and salary reduction?

Lg can u post the rules up on Slack for a possible Milb expansion. I would like to get everyone to review it and see what they think. After reviewing it if u think u dont want to do it send me a message and I will keep it confidential and we can look at the possible addition in the off season. A few things is that we can run it as a slow draft (Snake draft) I understand some teams might need a little time to research MILB options. Lg can u post your rules on MIlb or email em to me?
-
What I did in my other league was download a random number generator on Slack--called Dicebot--and just rolled a 512-sided die for everyone (just went down the list), so people could watch it happen in real time. Highest numbers went first.
-
Let's do it! Can do a randomized drawing for draft slots to make it fair to start.
-
LOL. I've just been busy with other leagues (auction last night, another one tomorrow night--plus a 10 man MiLB slow draft). I'd be cool with adding a MiLB supplemental roster to this existing league. Either for this season or next. I did a fair amount of research for the other one, so low marginal investment to do another.
-
Awful quiet out here lately. Have we finally put the Scherzer trade behind us or is it still too soon to bring it up?

I like the MILB addition. I just joined a league that has one of those ... pretty awesome. Operates totally off the ON grid, no impact on salaries, so really looks in players long term at good valuations.
-
I am going to post some information concerning some ideas on what other leagues are doing to see what u think. It is just informational review to see if these proposals might work in this league. These are all just proposals and at seasons end if anyone want to try and put some of these items in we will take a vote. Just for review at this time. I posted it on Slack. I am going to try and work out a MILB roster addition as the next proposal.
-
I will add that I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what exactly the other manager thinks I will be getting out of some trade offers. I won't name anyone specifically because it's really across the board. Another reason not to publicly reveal trade offers lol.
-
Key word. Above! Just the beginning. I donate no more!

Wow McGIbs thatβs coming from the team that finish 2 points above me. Interesting. Donation.

Definitly looks rough as well. However, Scherzer was much more valuable in our league at $47 then at $80.

I wasn't trying to justify the Scherzer trade in our league (I wasn't a party to it), I just found it interesting that there was a similar deal in another 5x5 where the return for Scherzer was far, far less impressive than Jimenez.
-
And Eloy producing this year does nothing for WS2020 except hurt him in arbitration. Just saying. :)

Funny. Not sure why people who weren't involved in the trade would be viewed as trying to justify it. I feel no need to justify it myself. It passed the league test, fangraphs people looked at it and thouth it was fair, and the twitterverse said it was fair too. In any case, I think if we want to talk about trades we should probably look at the others ones that were big time veterans (greinke and votto) for future potential less likely to produce this year than Eloy. Just saying. :)
-
π π Still trying to justify that garbage Scherzer trade. Let's just call it what it was... A gift. π

Well go on their message board and tell them Mr. McGibblets thinks that someone in that deal is getting hosed as well! But my opinion on someone's trade matters not, everybody has their own opinion. Your job is to get the best deal for you. Thats my only point. I'm not going to trade if i dont think the deal is good for me. The troutmasterbater likes to offer a bunch off scraps for your better players. Always trying to fix his mistakes by eyeballing other teams. It is good to have his donation.
-
FYI: in another 5x5 Ottoneu league, there was a trade involving Scherzer along with a massive off-setting loan. I think that WS2020 got a much better deal: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/1041/viewtrade?id=47639&pending=1
-
My view is that if i wanted your guys I would have drafted them myself! I dont make trades that help the other guy more than me ie. Sherzer and cash for a prospect that even if he lives up to the hype will be arbitrated out of being a bargain. No offense : ). FYI its needle point, and it will be a 2019 championship banner for myself!
