.... since you DONT know who/what/where, it also makes you spend your auction money more judiciously so that you can bid on rookies, etc.

ive played in a few long term leagues which drafted in mid february. it does make for better roster management, joe hardy. if you do have a guy in the minors or backups, yo uhave to decide what to do. since this format has a minor league, you gotta decide whether to hold him on that list or do something with his spot. it also means that less money would be spent on some spring training phenom and allows for better bidding wars for guys who get starting spots based on their springs.

5000 - remember the play by mail leagues? waiting by the mailbox for the results packet so you could turn in a lineup. i started in 1981 when i was 14.

I have played in ottoneu leagues that drafted in Feb. Everything was fine. There were injuries and lineup changes and uncertainties after the draft, but that only made for more interesting roster management and trades. I suppose we're really talking about risk tolerance vs. risk aversion. I believe there is a league that drafts on Memorial Day to avoid all those early season injuries and playing time loses.
-
Not good with February. I’ve been playing various games since 85 and I have never drafter in February.
-
I'm fine with late February or early March.

Most of the teams don't start playing Spring Training games until 2/21/20. So, late February won't tell us anything as to who might win or lose jobs on any given team. IMO, the best thing would be to draft between March 13- 15. That would give us a month of games to see who might make MLB rosters and who starts and who doesn't. MLB starts March 26.
-
Would late February early March be an appropriate compromise?
-
I joined league on December 24th and already have made 5 trades. I think this league has a pretty good trading history that I can tell by the past trades page.I you want to make trades an owner will find away.
-
I'm good either toward the end of February around the time Spring Training starts or later in March. Everyone has the same risk if we draft early & there can be some buying opportunities if you're willing to take on some greater risk. Everyone has more information in March but it always seems like a player gets hurt within a day or two after the draft anyway. Either way, everyone is playing by the same rules and has the the risk. I just need the start time to account for my being on

Draft in February way too early, more downside than upside...
-
I dont remember if we had this many teams with this much money to spend last year. Should make draft day interesting.

Explain roster management when three guys you drafted are in the minors or backups?
-
it might open up a lot more trades and better roster management.

What Joe Hardy talks about--drafting early--sounds pretty exciting. Doesn't the fun come from using what insight we have to place bets on an unpredictable future?

I strongly disagree about a draft in February. It's too early. You might not know all the free agents. You won't know any of the position battles and that might result in a team drafting too many players that got sent down or got hurt. There will be move movement and trades because we will drafting in the dark as to most of the transaction. Most of the teams don't start playing games until 2/21/20.

For scheduling purposes, I'm on the West Coast as well.

Yes Akron, I agree with you. I think once everyone is renewed I will start to throw out some draft dates in February. The only delay might be if Brent doesn't renew his team we will have to find an owner.
-
any thoughts on doing the draft soon after the keepers are due? might facilitate more trades

My draft availability is pretty open. I'll be able to do it a weeknight or the weekend. Whatever works for everyone. I guess it's also worth mentioning that I live on the west coast when considering time.

Fair enough Zips. Does anyone else want to be able to trade money during offseason with a limit of $15?
-
I dont expect the commissioner to try and keep track of all this if it isnt already allowed by the site. It just complicates things.

stars - you didnt offer any alternatives. you offered a yes or no. im offereing an alternative. we can limit it to a certain dollar amount without it being outrageously high or low. $15 is a good middle ground.

Akron, your trade is going through, but the consensus going forward is that no money will be able to be moved before the system will allow.

As I am new to the league I didn't know if it had been done before or not. I agree with Stars and Shoopy in that we let this trade go through but no more until the system allows it to.
-
I am leaning toward allowing the cash transfer this one time, but no further pre-draft cash transfers will be allowed. The trade just completed is quite minor. Does that work for everyone.
-
Have played a lot of Ottoneu and cash in trades before the auction has never been allowed. I suspect there are many good reasons Niv set things up this way beyond the ones that come readily to mind, but I vote against any kind of trade that promises cash or players to be given later.
-
I have no issues with it as it has never come up before. Since the agreement and trade are finalized I dont think changing it now is the way to go but I also dont think these kind of trades are something we should continue to allow in the future.

I have no problem with money or players to being traded later as long as those monies and players are named now as they have done in this trade. I myself have zero problem with this deal.

Just want to get others thoughts on that last post. I believe the system is designed so that no money can be transferred before the draft purposefully. Agreeing to send money after the draft seems to be circumventing that. Does anyone else have an opinion?
-
as part of our trade, i willbe sending the BIG man $5 as soon as we are able. thanks!

-
Joe, what is your guy's Ottoneu username?
-
Hey guys, sorry, unplugged for a few days there for Christmas. Welcome Joe, glad to have you here. Sorry to see you go Monkey, I definitely understand the time commitment thing. Maybe now someone else can win the league for once lol.
