Also, I am ok with formalizing some of the rules but I don’t have the time to write a full blown league charter right now. Maybe we can default to standard rules and keep a running list of amendments as a note in the league. Then we can add to it as things come up and we vote and discuss

you will be missed. primarily by the Eggs and the Animals.

Hey guys
I've been wrestling with this choice, and I think it leads to only one place before I get sucked back in: I'm going to drop out from all my ottoneu leagues.
I need to focus on my young family a little more. The time commit, especially with four leagues, got to be a little tough to manage this year.
I've enjoyed competing with you all over the last two season.
Thanks!

I suggest we formalize some of the items the rules leave at the discretion of the league. To me, the roster locking mechanisms that are in place by the system work well enough and only a handful of scenarios exist that would require any further action.
-
Rosters are locked. Commish, please remove Kole Calhoun and Brandon Marsh from my team.

Despite MB sneaking past and knocking me out of the money, I'm good with his solution.

i also don't understand why covid would be an excuse for you to be able to sit with an illegal roster for over a week in April. The rest of the league played by the rules the entire time, did we not have to deal with covid too? If anything that time of uncertainty was even more advantageous for you to sit with an illegal roster and you should be penalized more harshly for that. Just read the rules and play by them like everyone else.

i don't care enough to keep bringing it up if nobody else in the league agrees with me. but since you have done this multiple times i think it's worth bringing it up since it clearly states in the rules this is illegal.

It does seem pretty clear to me that the intent of the rule is keep a fair landscape for every owner and much like MLB's rules around roster limitations, having more players on your roster than the rule allows is a competitive advantage. I would propose that we allow 48 hours to drop 2 players. Then if that's not done, the commish drops the last 2 players added.
-
Ok let’s keep it civil fellas. After looking at the ottoneu community board this issue has come up in other leagues and it comes down to the commissioners discretion. I’m not the type to make the rules for all of us so I’ll put it to a vote and let the league decide.

-
I'm really surprised you're bringing up an instance when players were opting out daily and we had no idea if there would be a baseball season at all as an instance that I "did this before".
-
I propose the league members vote off two players ($2 salary or less to not be too harsh) so that his team is legal and complies with the roster regulations. I won't waste anymore time talking about this. Want to see if I'm the only one who thinks everyone should play by the rules. Thanks guys. Excited for the off season!

If nobody else objects to this I don’t really care. I just think it’s in bad sportsmanship that everyone else plays by the rules except him. And then instead of just taking the actions to make his team legal which is clearly the right and honest thing to do he makes excuses why he doesn’t have to. There’s obvious advantages to hoarding extra players that nobody else does. Since this isnt his first offense I think it’s necessary to penalize him which the rules state we can (and should).

you didn't make a trade. you saw your roster was illegal this morning and cut one guy and left it over by 2 players and then purposely didn't do anything until off season rosters locked tonight. that's illegal by rule. it's really clear.

Eggs- So, if someone completes a 2-3 trade in the offseason and it puts them above the player or salary limit, you expect them to cut a player before.... when?
-
Scapegoats, and this may be semantics, but did I willingly go over "roster AND salary cap limits"? The rule says "and", not "or". And implies, to me, the spirit of the rule to be don't go over both without fixing it before (reasonable timeframe, given circumstance).
-
If anyone else has a problem with my team having 47/45 players on it between now and when arbitration begins, I will cut down within 48 hours. If anyone else thinks I routinely don't play by the rules, I will give up my team.

you did this in april too. sat with an illegal roster for over a week and claimed you hadn't logged in but when u check someone's team in ottoneu it tells you when they last logged in and that wasnt true, you were checking everyday. again, just asking that everyone play by the rules.

everyone else in the league plays by the rules except for you. ya if it was the end of the season and you were out of the race and didnt check for a few days fine. but that's not the case. you make more moves than anyone. just play by the rules, and you claerly don't intend to so i'm asking the commish to intervene and punish you this time so we dont have to go over this again.

Lastly, it is absolutely false that roster limits are in place during the offseason. Most rosters will be illegal when salaries increase until the day of final cuts.

Second, I don't think my roster has ever been illegal for more than a day, to say I "constantly log in and see (my) roster is illegal" is just not accurate.

If I'm reading rule D right, that is spicifically toward the dollar amount you pledge in a bid, and the fallout from that.
Rule C specifically deals with roster limits.

Thanks for bringing your opinion to a public space. First, there is ambiguity: d. Teams are allowed to bid such that they would go over roster or cap limits if they win the auction. If they do win the auction, they will have to get under roster and cap limits before they can set their lineups, make trades, or bid on other auctions.
Pathetic Losers on

and yes roster caps are 100% in affect in the off season. why wouldn't every team roster 60 guys and pickup every prospect and every reliever that might have an opportunity to be a closer or start on the big league team and then decide who to cut in January. that's not true at all.

i know it's not that big of a deal it's just obnoxious that everyone else plays by the rules. you consistently log in and see your roster is illegal and do nothing about it. i would propose the rest of the league votes two $2 or less players off your roster to get it legal for the off season. i'm sure if we did that it won't keep happening.

Good season everyone, and congratulations Eggs.
I am aware that my roster is over the limit. I will make my final cuts before arbitration begins. If you have an issue with this, my inbox is open. There is some ambiguity to the rules as my last adds were on the last day and my lineups wouldn't be affected by not being able to adjust my roster or start auctions. Roster and cap limits are not in affect during the off-season.

And I suppose since I currently have the talking stick, Id reiterate Bleating's point as to having a discussion, public or private, about any potential vetos before any future veto voting is considered. Its been said in a different way by Bleating already re: surplus, but even at the time I believe the case was pretty clear as a fair deal, and now since its execution, Id say I'm quite happy with the way the deal has already matured. Happ in particular! Sorry, Bleating ;)
-
Sounds like this has been amicably resolved (which is indeed a pleasant alternative to how these convos go in other forums), but FWIW, I am usually a "shopper" of high end talent whilst selling the way I did. In this instance however, during negations with Bleating, I perused the other potential buyers and didn't see anything worth reaching out about. And for a 2nd "FWIW", these negotiations lasted the better part of a week with many many iterations, so I had plenty of time t

i don't have a problem with the deal. especially in short season, i don't think i would have given up more for those guys. so good on FVPV. however, in a normal year if someone is going to sell a top 10 player (much less two in the same deal) i would hope they would publicly shop them a bit more to make sure they are getting the best possible return

Look at how poorly that trade has worked out for me. Further proof why one shouldn't ever veto unless it's actually a garbage deal. IE Mike Trout for salary relief.

Good season guys, considering the circumstances. I know everyone had a lot going on, and fantasy was the least of many peoples worries, but I would like to make a plea in the future to at least check out the trades that go through. We very rarely have many veto votes, but this trade had 3, with 8 abstentions. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/908/viewtrade?id=60886&pending=1 No fault or blame to anyone, just want to make sure everyone is on the same page.
