@Money...you're missing the point. Two people agreed to a deal. It has nothing to do w/anyone else. But they can veto it using the button, privately. If the point of discussion is to be open-minded & discuss but you've already vetoed then comment - that's just salesmanship. You've already made your decision, you have a motive (to convince others to back you & serve yourself) & you have no interest in hearing from the managers who made the trade. So why bother discussing i

Pumpkin is entitled to pursue whatever strategy he wishes, but at the same time a trade does not have to be "illegal" to warrant a veto. I'm not a big fan of the veto, but its there and people are allowed to use it as they see fit. My attitude towards the veto is that I will not use it as long as I can see some reasonable strategy motivating both sides.

One clarification on this thread - Luzardo ended the 2018 season in AAA.
-
The loan is a necessity for making a deal in-season. It's hard to find equally balanced deals without having to overpay or ask for too much. Secondly, I disagree on the veto stance. If you dislike a trade, use your veto button. That's the point of it. If others dislike it, they, too, can veto. We can all discuss it afterward & try again. But to use your vote, then post before a deal is complete. You had no interest in hearing from the people who made the deal. You just want to get your w
-
It's your choice to defend the trade, just as it's everyone else's choice to veto it. There's nothing "illegal" about what was done, and nobody is single handedly restricting anyone from anything. It's a democracy.
-
I agree with you and I disagree I was offered good players for Luzardo and for Moncada seperately in this league and in others so getting them both in one trade is a good deal for Pumpkin for the future, for my part I will have to drop one or two good players next year to keep Stanton so the 36$ seems big now but for what I'm giving up, based on past offers I had to get something in return (Contreras and a 12$ Stanton like you say).
-
I don't think there needs to be much convincing. I think those vetoing it are self-motivated. No different than I am or Papi is. It's a long-term league. I happen to be high on the 3 guys I am acquiring & it required me including $ to do so. Stanton was drafted to sell. Most of you have received offers from me in some capacity. This deal also frees me up for other potential deals I've discussed w/some of you. Deals where I was unwilling to part w/player(s) you wanted. These guys help me
-
Personally, I have not vetoed the deal, nor do I plan to. I've posted my opinion on vetoes previously. But I disagree that anybody who doesn't like a trade should veto it silently. If anyone feels strongly against a trade then I encourage communication on the League Message Board. When three people quickly come out and say they don't like the trade, then they're probably not the only ones. The public forum gives YOU a chance to defend the trade before everyone's smashing the Veto button.
-
Can only speak for myself, but I don't think anyone's insinuating collusion. The crux of the issue is just the trade itself-- most notably the loan. Kopech won't throw this year, and Luzardo has only thrown in high-A, right? For a *$12* Stanton and a fairly priced Contreras, that's the best bargain I've seen in this league, by miles. Would be different if the trade was only the players, but the loan is pretty steep, in my opinion.

Well said Pumpkin, if this league is not long termm, let us know, I will make othe plans for next year, anyway I'm in many other leagues. I don't think letting go Moncada and Luzardo is nothing, I'm giving probably two future stars to address my Catcher problem and getting Stanton at 12$ for this year should indeed be a benefit to me for letting them go, if not why would I have done this trade....collusion ??? I don't know anybody in this league and haven't spoken about collusion with anyone
-
You should, indeed, but the other side of that coin is that the league can veto. Something we discussed last year was that these discussions should be brought to the board and be had in public. I think this trade is not in the best interest of the league, but this is yours and Big Papi's stage to convince us all otherwise.

@ Georgia...Sadly...that's apart of the rules. You can dislike my move & recognize that it improves another team, but there is nothing "illegal" about what I'm doing. And a case can be made for what I acquired. This isn't a single-season league. The who purpose of joining this was for the keeper/long-term element. So I should be able to pursue that however I see fit. Should I not?
-
The only collusion here is the guys who are restricting me from doing what I want to do and attempting to team up on the boards to do so. You all had a veto button to express your beliefs silently. Bringing it to the public forum proves that you're desperate for finding likeminded opinions and hopes of swaying others. Why I should have to dwindle in the 6th-10th place range solely to satisfy your opinions on when it's appropriate to make a trade is nonsense.
-
I don't think this is an attack on your intentions, Pumpkin Escobar, but it doesn't seem in the benefit of the league for Big Papi to play an entire year with a $12 Stanton, and likely give up no material points this year to get that.

I should have to wait until midseason to do this? Because the difference is what? That I'm far more realistic about where I stand in March than they are? I do appreciate the concern but that sounds a bit silly. Especially from the guys who used their same expertise to win this league last year. Oh wait...

Lol. So let me get this straight...there are 11 losers in this league every year. I took over a team that was on the bottom in 18'. I'm "rebuilding" & figured it would take more than one year to do so. I used my draft budget to draft big name guys so that I can sell them to others for their valuable, inexpensive, high-upside guys. Guys that would otherwise prove challenging to acquire. Particularly, after they have success, which I suspect some will have in 19'.
-
In no way do I think that trade involves any collusion, although I do think it would be beneficial for the rest of the league to hear Pumpkin Escobar's rationale for the offer. No team is under any obligation to explain a trade unless it looks like collusion, however, no explanation won't help this trade pass.
