I thought I checked that. Someone is getting fired. Sorry about that. The selection is CHASE PETTY REDS PITCHER
-
Just a heads up. Bubba Chandler is already on Silk Robes MiLB roster.
-
Shadowy Figures selects BUBBA CHANDLER, Pitcher, Pirates. Shelbyville, you’ re up
-
Sorry for the delay!
The Infirmary will select LEODALIS DE VRIES, SS, San Diego Padres. Shadowy figures is on the clock.
-
Meaning that Infirmary is now on the clock.
Also, Edgar Quero is in the White Sox org. I should know that because he's on my roster, but I am just acknowledging my mistake on the record.

I'm going to take Zyhir Hope, OF in the Dodgers system.
-
Teams have 24 hours to make their selections. Please don't make me skip you. So, with all that said, RottenSlog is on the clock with the first overall pick!

If you have any specific rules questions, make sure to check the league charter. And you can ask me as well. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvjfDSJ--9fXNefZdh3509QIyrnN6Trxfbroasi00TY/edit?usp=sharing

The slow draft takes place here on the league message board. When it's your turn to make a selection, you'll make a post like this: "Ben's Banter selects Edgar Quero, C, LAA. Thunder Gun is on the clock." The important thing is to specify the player, such that I can find the right one as there are repeat names, as well as which team is next. The next team will be whoever is next on your right on the tracker without 5 players.

I have reordered the MiLB roster document, such that it now reflects our slow draft order from left to right. So, we will begin with RottenSlog and move left up to Thunder Gun, then back to RottenSlog, etc. Once a team has 5 players, they'll be skipped. You can review the tracker here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R9PX6i8Vc9_jJzXeC8Uhf2GFeTgOPG0ZCEmY6c-KuVk/edit?usp=sharing

Hey folks, thanks for making the annual auction draft a success last night. With that done, it's time to begin the MiLB slow draft. As a reminder, you will select a minor league player who has yet to debut in MLB. I will update the names on our tracker. When that player does debut, they'll be added to your team for $1. Until then, they don't count against your roster or cap. We will draft from 12th to 1st place from last year's standings until we all have 5 MiLB players.

Yes, 8pm Eastern this Saturday evening. My wife has already made alternate plans :-)
-
8:00 p.m. is 2:00 a.m. for me, so the time is definitely not ideal.

I guess I missed the email that was sent last week. Sorry.
-
Just noticed on league settings that auction is set for this Saturday March 1. Is this correct?
-
So, the only date with universal availability was Saturday, March 1st. Would 8 PM EST be feasible for everyone? Let me know if that doesn't work for you, otherwise I'll assume it does.

Yep! My mistake. Forms updated their interface and I now have to manually switch it from "responses restricted" instead of it being accessible by default. Anyway, it should work now. Sorry about the glitch

As promised, here's the input form for the annual draft date. I'd like to do it sometime in the two weeks before the seasons starts. Select as many dates as possible where you'd have a couple hours free in the afternoon/evening. Once we narrow it down to a few dates, we can pick a specific time.

What are we thinking about a draft date?
-
My biggest debate was Austin Riley. Ultimately I cut him to make room for one SP Ace, which I traded for rather than paying inflated prices during the draft, especially considering I didn't make as many cuts as most teams did. Doesn't hurt that I can slide Vientos, Miranda or Chisholm into that 3B spot next year. '26 will be another question.
-
Understand that. Phil and I had a similar debate before deciding to cut Dansby Swanson.
-
I debated that Bregman cut for a long time. Finally decided to pull the trigger.
-
In the middle of winter, it was fun to watch the flurry of final cuts yesterday, ending up with Alex Bregman a mere 19 minutes before the trade deadline. Funny coincidence, as he's a FA in real life too. I enjoyed seeing all the names of these players moving into the pool. Look forward to our draft in March.
-
Trades -- I've been wrapped in in IRL stuff the last month or so. I'm willing to re-engage with anyone who made me trade offers earlier.

MiLB is a Slog -- I'm cutting Spencer Jones and Termarr Johnson
-
Effectively Mediocre will release Espino and Cartaya from ML roster
-
The firm of Silk, Robes & Kimono's has agreed to cut Colson Montgomery upon realizing that he in fact IS NOT Phil Coulson.
-
Gonna hold on to Roby and Jett so no cuts for me.
-
I will cut Cole Young from my MiLB roster

Please remove Brock Wilken from MiLB roster for The Infirmary.

Phil has been off-grid for a few weeks ice fishing in northern Minnesota. He just got back and was grousing about our Minor Leaguers. "These guys are hopeless! Who reeled them in? " I had to break it to him it was his tour of spring training back diamonds last year that netted these lunkers. "Yeesh" he muttered, " OK, throw Fernandez, Franklin and Lantigua back in the lake...they'll never help us. Snelling...maybe he'll become something as a lefty starter."
-
Captains cut Dylan Lesko & Drew Gilbert from MiLB roster. Also Lowder is shown on my MiLB roster and is also on my MLB roster. Thanks.
-
Hey thanks for revivifying the message board, SRK. That reminds me that MiLB cuts are due on January 31st as well. If you have players on your MiLB roster you don't want to retain, you need to say so in a message board post before the cut deadline. If you are not going to make any cuts, that's fine too. You just need to DM me or post a message saying so. Thanks!

I'm looking to move Austin Riley before the keeper deadline. Looking for OF and BP options with lower price tags. If anyone who has cap space, or expects to have cap space is interested, HMU. Thx.
-
Thank you, Commish, for your great leadership, both in and out of the weeds. Makes the league enjoyable, year round. Now, with Juan Soto comfortably set for life, the hot stove league can really heat up.
-
Aside from the playoffs question, most of these issues are pretty deep in the weeds. I appreciate your votes and your interest. The Effectively Wild Fans governing charter is a living document, and I am grateful for you all helping it keep up with the times.
Now, on to trade season!

The final issue was whether stolen bases and caught stealings should qualify an MiLB-rostered player for their debut. This proposal was approved 8-4, and I have edited the charter to include those alternative debut conditions.

December 7, 2024 2:36 PM

The fourth issue was whether owners should be allowed to cut MiLB players mid-season. We have not allowed it in the past, though the charter does not have an explicit statement on it. The absence of a mechanism for cuts was interpreted to mean that cuts weren't allowed. The result was 6-6, which means that the traditional interpretation of the charter will now be explicitly included, and mid-season cuts will not be allowed.

The third vote was on whether MiLB-eligible players who are cut during the MiLB draft window should be draftable. 10 owners said they should not be. This rule is a clarification of an existing rule, so I've included a note address this specific scenario in the charter.

The second issue was whether international signees expected to debut in MLB should be eligible for the MiLB draft. The existing rule said that they were not eligible, so this would've required 8 votes in favor of allowing eligibility. It was approved by 4/12 owners, so the rule remains unchanged. Roki Sasaki and his ilk remain ineligible for MiLB drafting.

Hey everyone, thanks for your votes in our "winter meetings." As a reminder, any rule change needs 8/12 owners to approve a change.
The biggest proposal was including playoffs. The result was 6-6, a tie. Since it didn't reach 8 votes in favor, we won't have playoffs this coming season. We can revisit this in a year if people are still interested.
