I don't mind answering "newbie" questions, but if you don't want to ask a "competitor" for advice, get on Slack and hit up the 'ottoneu101' channel or get on the Community site at http://community.ottoneu.com/ (use your FanGraphs login).

To expand a bit: You just never can tell what someone else might buy in a trade. No cuts need to be made until Jan 31. So there is simply nothing to be gained by cutting two months before the deadline. You cannot trade anyone you have already cut. Use the Roster Organizer as a "what if..." tool.

As they say, a cluttered roster is a sign of a cluttered mind. But for me, rather than outright cutting someone now, I'll just put them in the "cut" category in the roster organizer so I can see what my roster and budget looks like without them.

Something tells me you already made that decision. Very subtle. ;)
-
So, do I as a benevolent League Commissioner, point out that there is absolutely no tactical advantage to cutting players this early, especially players who have trade value, and extend a little help to league-mates who may not have ever gone through an Ottoneu offseason before? Or do I sit back and just let my competitors make mistakes. Decisions, decisions...

Hey fellas, other new owner here. Y'all can call me LG. Really excited to get after it in the league. I'm always up for trade conversations, and always will listen with an open mind on any player. Feel free to drop a message to the inbox whenever and I'll reply as promptly as possible! - LG, Tripping Daisies

I've been crazy busy at work, but I really need to come back to the auction topic. Now that we have a full league again, I want to discuss the slow draft more and see whether we have complete buy-in. Hopefully I can get to that Sunday...

Welcome to our 2 new owners. I'm glad you still have time to complete arbitration. Yes, that's a hint. Feel free to ask questions. I know we're all "competition" but, really, I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Welcome new owner! You'll be an upgrade over Cobra who was dormant for most of the year. There are hints on how to play Ottoneu on this site and on Fangraphs, you should check them out.
-
Hey everyone. I just claimed CobraDC. I'm new to ottoneu but not fantasy baseball. Been playing in multiple leagues for 15+ yrs, Looking forward to participating in a more engaging fbl format.

I would be interested in a slow draft

I like the idea of a slow draft, count me in.

I agree it's interesting. Is there a description of the process as to how it works?
-
A slow draft seems interesting to try. How many nominations would be active at once?

yes, about 2 weeks

I'm interested in doing a slow draft. How long would you anticipate it taking? A couple weeks?
-
1. Reminder: End of Arbitration - November 14, 2016. More than 1/2 the league has already allocated which is fantastic.
2. If you want to change your team name, use the "Edit" link on your team page.
3. Any interest in doing the annual auction with a "slow draft"? Getting 12 people with different schedules together at the same time can be challenging. A slow draft puts each player nominated up for auction for a day or so. Takes longer overall but you have more time to think

Ok cool. I stopped reading as soon as I found something that supported my argument. Go wild with negative salary caps!
-
Note VII.c. "However, there is no salary cap from the end of the MLB season until the keeper deadline." No one needs to make any cuts now.

Also, I will freely use this message board to encourage other teams to act in what I think is their self-interest, especially when it aligns with my interests. If my ideas don't make sense then they are free to ignore them.
-
Anyone else have a problem with teams staying over their salary cap limits for an extended amount of time? I'm guessing I'm the minority since most teams in this league have negative cap dollars. But since it's in the actual rules I figured I'd bring it up for discussion. "It's part of the strategy" isn't a convincing argument to me.
-
Rule Ic: At no time should a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner.

We're a Biddle- Solve us Crick!'s trade block has been updated!

There is no such need to get under the cap before arbitration. It's part of the strategy. As for arb dollars assigned to you, if you have productive, under priced players you're going to get arb dollars attached to them, it's that simple. Don't try to manipulate people's opinions on where their dollars should go, deal with it.
-
Also, not counting my allocations I see that I've gotten $5 of arb thrown my way compared to $6 at Smell the Glove. I'm going to remind everyone that I finished last and Smell the Glove is by the far the most stacked and looking good to repeat next year. I'm fine soaking up arb dollars, but StG should be getting as much as possible thrown his way.
-
Can I request that all the teams that have negative cap space adjust their rosters to get under the cap? That would be very useful before we go through with arbitration.

So you're living in the belly of the beast. Sounds like ABSFG is your motto.

Dodgers fan (grew up in LA). I'll cheer for the A's given the opportunity, but another SF WS title just might break me.

Welcome, Brian. Giants fan or A's fan? You're equally as welcome.

Hi League, I'm Brian and I'm taking over the Knights franchise. I live in SF and I look forward to some good baseballing with you guys.

All my offense is on my bench and my pitching is not performing. Plus MB is playing his cards well. I might not be able to catch him.
