I'm fine with it how Niv described it. I think it just means more starts as a whole. Streaming bad pitchers will still have a pretty negative effect on your total points.

If we are concerned about streaming (thereby losing quality in favor of quantity of innings), we could consider instituting an in-house 1250 IP max for the 5-month regular season. This would correlate to a full season 1500 IP max. Welcome thoughts from fellow owners.
-
Us: "If so, what’s to stop owners from streaming SPs without a true innings max during the regular season?"
Niv: "I don’t know, you guys should try it! I imagine if more than 3 owners are trying to stream in a single league, in-season auctions will become pretty competitive and it’ll be hard to actually pull off this strategy. I received no feedback in 2018 that streaming was an issue in hybrid regular-season / playoff formats, but maybe that will change this season."
-
Hey all, got an answer from Niv (https://community.ottoneu.com/t/2019-baseball-playoff-options/4796/12?u=pallenikje)
-
Ok, 5 v 6 months could be a "catastrophic blunder" depending on what we find out. Honestly not sure I'd say 5 months and 1500/162 boosts value or not. For studs is clearly does. But, if you have 2nd and 3rd tier guys you may be worse off than someone with 4th and 5th tier guys because of willingness to stream. Perhaps sheer quantity outweighs quality unless the quality brings quantity. Regardless it definitely changes the way you think about valuation.
-
This playoff structure would only make sense if it retains the season-long 1500 IP cap (as well as the 162-game cap) AND the 2 SP-slot daily max during the playoffs. Otherwise, perhaps we reconsider?
-
So then the regular season is 5 months correct? So 1500 for 5 months instead of 6, that kinda changes things regarding starting pitchers having more value doesn’t it? And how about position games limit of 162, can you ask about that as well
-
I'm under the impression that the 1500 applies to the regular season, and then starts are limited on a per-day basis during H2H playoffs (e.g. you only have 2 SP roster spots per day). Scoring in the playoffs is still Fangraphs Points - whichever team has the higher point total for the playoff period wins the matchup. I will follow up with Niv tonight and let the league know what I hear - or you're welcome to post on the Ottoneu message boards (he monitors) if you'd like an answer sooner.
-
We need to confirm the 1500 and games played at positions thing ASAP before season starts. So what happens if you go over your innings or games played in the finals, you lose out correct? So is it beneficial to hold back these numbers just enough to make playoffs? Making a head to head playoff out of a regular league kinda goes against each other.
-
While I am not sure 1 v 2 makes a difference, I would vote against changes st this point just because I think we should stick to what rules exist for the season unless there is a need to fix a catastrophic blunder. This isn’t that.
-
This is the first season a hybrid season is allowed but I think 1500 is for the entire season including playoffs. So the entire mlb season

Does anyone know if the 1500 innings applies even in the playoff? Or Does the 1500 inning limit only apply to the regular season?

Yep, you're right - total points to get to the playoffs. This is our first year doing it this way, trying it out. Of course, open to changes after the season depending on how it goes this year!

Good with however it’s set up . Just didn’t realize that was the case

I’m new to this league but is it fangraph points total points until the last month and it turns to head to head?

I would say that there are similar changes that happen in the 2nd to last week of the season, so if the final is only 1 week long you may still be affected by late season shenanigans and have no time to compensate. I think it would be best to leave it at 2 weeks so at least you can try and manage your way around the issues. Just my opinion though, I think both options are less than ideal

Hey all, Notorious Gregorius discovered on Ottoneu message boards that they've added the option for a 2 week first round of the H2H playoffs and a 1-week final in order to allow us to avoid the final week of the season. We currently have a 2-week first round and a 2-week final running right to the end of the MLB season. He's in favor of the change, but I would like to hear from other owners before making a call on what to do. Thoughts? Notorious, feel free to add more detail here if you'd like.

So it is clear that the flux capacitor has not returned this franchise to the greatness it once had. Greatness will only come by calling upon a legend of greatness. So, with Moondog Rex, Mondog Spot, and Moondog King, know that Dusty Rhodes is going to see you on Friday night at the Fulton County Fair and no number of horseman can save you.

Must say I am very curious to see how it all shakes out tonight!

1. Again, we shall see.
2. Don’t know if this is a weak class. Could be but don’t know what future class will look like.
3. Point is not to use loans but that loaning is too easy which means trading extra cash isn’t really an option. Worst case for me is overspend, maybe trade a piece or two for something and dump the rest.
4. Why so serious?
-
Lol gigawats is in for a rocky rebuild if the plan is to overpay in a weak auction class (let alone use in-season loans as a crutch for said overpayments) in a game that heavily favors the exact opposite rebuild methodology 🤷♂️
-
We’ll see but no. Actually, even if so I think players have more value in rebuilding than extra money given how easy it is for loans to solve trading...
This is what happens when you meet a stranger in the Alps.
-
My prediction is that your over excitement about the limited free agent pool leads you to overpay for mediocre ones

anyone interested in joining a long established CBS 5x5 keeper league let me know. looking for 2 new teams. entry fee is $250, I can email all details and available players to be kept.
-
Welcome soon-to-be something other than the Bombers. BTW, heard the Braves sent Freeman to Japan. I’d cut him.
-
Cool. I'll try and do it by the end of this weekend. Looking forward to the draft.

Welcome to the league! Yes, I think based on the league chatter you should be able to make 1 round of penalty-free cuts. There should be an option on your page to do that since you just took over an abandoned team. If you don't see it, please send me a message via the league page and I'll work it out with you.
-
Hello everyone, I see the chatter below about the one free round of cuts. I'm assuming that I can make a free round of cuts? Just making sure I would be able to before I pay the $50 for the team. Thanks,

FWIW I don't see the harm in allowing the new owner a round of penalty-free cuts. Taking over an existing roster is a difficult undertaking and probably merits that concession.
-
Yep, still looking - 1 of the 4 I reached out to said he can't make the auction date either, the other 3 I haven't heard back from. So by all means, ask your connections. If they're interested, just send them to the abandoned teams list and they can claim it directly: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/claimteams
-
Are we still looking? I know a person or two who may be interested.
-
I just abandoned Bayou's team so it appears on the abandoned teams list. I sent e-mails to 4 owners from the prospective owners board on Ottoneu, all of whom indicated an interest in a FGPts league, so we'll see what they say. Anybody else want to weigh in on the idea of a round of penalty-free cuts vs. not being allowed for the new owner?
-
I haven't seen or heard anything from Bayou suggesting he's changed his mind, so I will begin looking for a replacement team this weekend (sorry, haven't had time the last few days).
-
So do we have a sense of where things stand?

Bayou - I just think you have a solid roster. Given that you only have 54$ and 15 spots, finding someone to draft for those spots seems doable (and really you only NEED 22 spots filled). Believe me I get the idea that you want to draft and understand leaving if you can’t. That said you seem to be in a good position such that I think it would be hard for a proxy to F it up.
-
Glad to respond to provide answers to any questions that may reduce befuddlement regarding my existing roster construction prior to my exit!
