Diamond Dogs makes a fair point, I think. I'm fine with starting at 2 PM and going for as long as you guys want, but I am happy to have the commish make a unilateral decision and we can go with that.
-
Also here's a great podcast to help getting ready for the draft. If you're not ready, it will be a bad experience (and take forever) apparently. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/?powerpress_pinw=81995-ottoneu-podcast

Also if you've not been in an ottoneu draft, you can watch this video to see how it goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZxgR25aJaY&noredirect=1

Guys, it's four days away from the draft and we're still debating when to start and how long to go??? When the league started it was posted as a 3/19 draft starting at 1:00 pm. Now I see it's been moved to 4:00 pm and some people can't do that. We need to have some sort of vote, or commish decision, and move on. Like all of you, I'm sure, I've got a job, wife, kids, other things in my life. I moved my schedule around figuring we'd draft from 1 pm until finished. Can someone please make the call?
-
The earliest I could do is 2:00 on Saturday
-
Sorry if this is posted on the website somewhere but I'm at work about to head into some meetings -- is the auction something we do both on the website and over the phone, or is it all done via the website?
-
I'd advocate for as much as possible on Saturday just to get it done. Maybe move it to start early Saturday morning in hopes that people's days aren't yet busy?
-
I can commit to about 4 hours this Saturday. That might get 2/3 of the auction done. If we could get that much done we knock out the rest one night .
-
Going to be hard to coordinate 12 schedules. My preference would be to push through on saturday. I will obviously try and accomodate if it gets split up, but tgis is a busy time of year.
-
I'm also fine with stretching the draft out over several days; seems like a fairly good idea. I could probably make either of the following two weekends work.
-
Also, would anyone like to take over or split commish duties with me? I'm stretched a little thin at the moment and would love to pawn some of this off on a willing party. It'd help a lot and hopefully make for a better experience for everyone.
-
I'm fine with stretching this out over a couple days. I don't think it takes 8 hours - I've read 5 for an initial draft somewhere but either way, that's a long ass time. I can't do the following Saturday because a few of us have a home league draft but I'm open to other times.
-
I would love to draft half on Saturday and half the following week. 8 hours is too long for one day and my wife will be busting my balls.
-
No it's an auction so there's no way to autodraft
-
I may have a scheduling conflict this Saturday, during the draft. I'm not sure yet though. If I do have a conflict though, what do I do? Will my team auto-draft?

Excited for a drafting marathon. Is it too early to draft Vlad Guerrero Jr.?
-
It's good by me, just double checking. Looking forward to it...
-
Oh hell yes.
-
Are we planning on plowing straight through with the entire draft Saturday afternoon-night?
-
I believe what I read about rosters is as follows. All teams start 22 players (12 position players and 10 pitchers). 1 catcher, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 SS, 1 3B, 1 MI, 5 OF, 1 Util, 5 SP, and 5 RP. The rest are reserves - either major league or minor league. I believe you can only have 162 games started at each position, which keeps you from streaming players to maximize games. I think there is a limit on innings pitched of 1500. I need to review again prior to the draft as I am kind of clueless
-
I can't figure out how to find this but what is the lineup configuration that we will be using? Or does everyone on our roster accumulate stats the entire year?

Just signed up - glad to be here. Retired from HS baseball coaching so switching to this. Longtime Roto, SOM, Scoresheet, WIS guy.
-
Hello everyone. Just signed up for the league. Been looking for a league of people new to Ottoneu just like I am. I have been playing Fantasy Baseball since 1995 but never in this format. Excited to get started!
-
Happy to be a part of the league. Played fantasy for the past couple years and love it. Huge baseball guy. Looking forward to having fun with this league though it may take awhile to get accustomed.

I'm pleased to announce that I forced my fianceΓ©, who is over 8 months pregnant, to have a partial-birth abortion so I wouldn't miss the draft.
-
Looking to try my hand at Ottoneu. Like a lot of the guys here Ive played in Yahoo leagues for a while and wanted to try something new
-
Hi Everybody, fantasy baseball rookie but I've been trying to do my homework... Many hours have been logged listening to CBS Fantasy Baseball podcast when I should be working ha. Boston suburb guy, just had a new baby so expect a lot of trade offers at 1 in the morning... Looking forward to playing!
-
Hey guys, longtime yahoo player, new to Ottoneu, happy to be here.
-
Since I will not be able to draft my team, I'm going to have to let this team go. Unfortunately, I didn't check with the boss and we have a prior obligation scheduled that day. I apologize for the inconvenience! (Locomotives)
-
Another question for you guys. Is there mock draft option on here? Just wondering how people prepare for Ottoneau drafts.
-
Understood. Thank you.
-
So this being our first year, everyone would be available this year. Going into next year, the draft pool will be much smaller since we're keeping players.
-
I was reading the rules and read that people have the option of keeping players from a previous year. Does that apply to our league as well? Will all players be up for grabs during our draft?
-
Is Stevens in the league, commish?
-
I think that describes everyone else in the league perfectly. Will be a learning experience for all of us.
If anyone knows of anyone else interested in joining the league, let me know and I'll invite them. Right now we're on pace for about 8 people meaning we'd need 4 random Fangraphs readers to fill out the league.
-
I hope you guys don't mind helping a newbie. I have 12 years of Yahoo fantasy baseball under my belt...but have never played Ottoneu. I have no idea what I'm doing.

A little long so I haven't made it through yet but looks like a good Ottoneu resource: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/10-tips-for-ottoneu-rookies/
