The other aspect could be how others view that specific team. If they don't feel that team has many surplus assets they may only allocate $1 to that team regardless of player. So they can put $3 on teams with more surplus.

But I have attempted this same strategy and it failed and the owner kept him. But that means someone has 70+ $ on one player.

I guess that was the original question, and I have no real good explanation for that other than someone expects the trout owner to drop trout if they raise his price higher. Then they want to try and get him at auction.

Trout's best season has been around 1300 points, so at $74 we are looking at 17.5pts/$ for such a season. In comparison, a 1000 point season from Bryant at $51 gives 19.6pts/$ and from Betts at $44 22.7pts/$, so I am just curious to know why Trout worries people enough to increase his cost while ignoring the value of other players. I know it is not as simple as all this, but the question was asked what was surprising and this was it for me. :)
-
But my surprise does not stem from Trout being priced highly, I get that, but why increase his value further while other players with similar numbers and talent (e.g., Betts, Bryant) remain cheap by comparison. I realize it is partially the system (e.g., only so much $ to one team; you need to spend $ on each team), but I was just surprised to see Trout at $69 with +$5 and Betts at $41 with only +$3.
-
But I guess it depends on you finding the right replacement player too. But there is also the possibility your replacement player scores more than replacement level too. Hopefully this isn't confusing. Just my thoughts on trout.

Now the downside to this is if trout suffers a season ending or even misses significant time. Now you have $70 dollars devoted to 1 player and you don't get that advantage. Bc if you look there were only 3 900 point OF and about a handful of 1000 point player one being Trout. So the odds you could get one of those guys is hard to count on since most are probably already being kept. So trout and a replacement player is a better investment if the trout plays all year than two 30 something players

So points wise you would roughly get 1200 points from Trout. He has consistently put up those numbers year to year. So take him and a replacement player that scores 600 to 650 points for ~$2 and now you have 1800 points about between two players. So that's two 900 point players for basically one assuming you take the replacement player late in auction or from the free agent pool.

I think the theory behind it is that Trout has been so consistently awesome. You know what you are getting with him. That's why he's worth it. He'll look at McCutchen. He fell off a cliff this year.

Fantasy points-wise? I can see that argument from a WAR perspective, but I cannot see that being a sound position numbers-wise in fantasy.
-
Fangraphs had an article on Trout last year that basically said Trout+replacement IS better than 2 other high end OF.
-
So I guess I should have asked if everyone thinks they will stay the same or not.
As far as Trout goes that would be my guess. Those guys want the chance to get him at auction.

Well just because the allocations look that way know doesn't mean they will stay the same. Allocations last until like Nov 15. Everybody can change their mind after seeing how all the others have played out so far. Trade discussions if they start up could also change some allocations.

Or is this a stratagem to see him cut and added to the pool of free agents?
-
I am surprised by Trout having another $5 added to his salary. Yes, he is arguably the number one fantasy position player and a relatively safe bet to repeat his numbers, but at $74? By my count, thus far all the others who finished within 100 points of Trout will be at salaries of $35, $51, $40, $44, $44, $51, $44, and $45 after arbitration, with a few of those receiving $0 arbitration additions. Is Trout really worth a Nelson Cruz or Ian Kinsler more than other position players?

I don't know if you were really wanting the answer...but if you're talking about our league it's on the Allocations page :) Story, Verlander, Murphy, Seager, Porcello, Villar, LeMahieu (this is a $7 tie with Porcello and Villar) Porcello and Villar were inevitable after their solid $1 seasons. Story pretty well the same story (heh) after being at $3. Anyone have any surprises so far? Off the group towards the top I think it's pretty well as I expected...only one team left to finish up!

Welcome aboard Andrew!
-
HI All!! Thanks for having me in the league. I am new to Ottoneu but not new to fantasy sports. I love trading, love talking baseball and plan on being active!
-
And that completes our search for a new member. Thanks to everyone who returned, and thanks to Andrew for joining up. Allocations are going well (aside from everyone ganging up on Verlander - not cool) and are almost completed well before the deadline.
-
We officially have a new member joining us to take over Flint Mermaids! Everyone please welcome Andrew!
-
Welcome to arbitration season! For the next 30 days, you have the opportunity to allocate money to other team's players. You must allocate at least $1 to every team, otherwise your allocations will not count. Simply click the Allocation tab to get going!

Just to remind everyone, the keeper deadline is not until January 31, so you have up to that point to make any trades/cuts. Arbitration begins on Saturday where you can allocate money to other teams.

Hi everyone! Thanks to all who got back with me about the 2017 season! It appears after not hearing anything this week, and activity from this season, Flint will not be joining us. I will begin the search for a new owner immediately in hopes to have that spot filled quickly and before next Saturday when arb starts. If there are any objections to that just let me know! Also, I've gotten a couple responses for rule change proposals. Any others please let me know in the next few days! Thank you all

Was curious what the hell you were talking about.

my bad....ignore that post...was mean't for another league :)
-
And based on Kenton's slack post, most agree. While some can see the point, absolutely no one expects/thought of compensation. It sucks, it does. But to create a one time rule is weird
-
AND since I'm spamming everyone already anyway, this is also the time if you have any recommendations regarding league rules for 2017 to let me know. Send me a message on here or email and I'll gather them together in a pile to discuss and vote on with everyone.

Thanks to those of you who have already gotten back to me, much appreciated! I need to make an edit to one of last night's posts regarding cutting to get under the $400 salary cap soon. That is incorrect, my apologies. I misread some things and got all tangled up. Basically just make sure you have a valid roster, meaning under $400 and at least $1 for all open roster spots by the Jan 31 keeper deadline. Apologize for that!
