Officially open for business!
-
The Tatamagouche Rule has been officially instituted :)
-
And since the roster rule was designed for me, let me assure you all that I had no intention of rostering a AAA team. I was caught off guard by the prices at the draft and it all just spiralled downward from there--it took some adjusting because every league I am in values different things. Regardless, I fully intend to compete in 2017. :)
-
As a reminder, trading season officially reopens tomorrow! Open season until the keeper deadline January 31, 2017.
-
No worries, actually carried from another league one of our owners is in that had a guy with a $700+ budget within the first couple of weeks and kind of wrecked the season. I'm not overly worried with high budgets, just figured that was a way to prevent the start of season disaster potentially without really messing anything up.
-
As a note on the salary cap, I feel like this rule was slightly designed for me, but I want to assure everyone that the only reason I ran my budget up so high was because my pitchers just kept getting injured. At one point I had almost $200 on the DL. Probably won't happen again.
-
not sure if it matters but i am for the roster size proposal and against MiLB
-
and that settles it I suppose, vote ends 6-6 in support of the salary cap. If it becomes a thing, we can revisit the vote next offseason but for now it is no implemented. Proposals 1 & 3 are officially now in force, roster limits (must maintain a roster able to fill all spots, 10 pitchers + 12 hitters) at all times, and we will have a MiLB draft following the auction.
-
for the record im against a salary cap FWIW
-
No worries, just need a vote. Are you in favor of the sliding salary cap as discussed on here?
-
sorry, i was away on vacation
-
Alright so not sure what to do, so open to ideas. Flint did not vote despite several messages and the message board posting, and hasn't logged in since beginning of November. 6 did vote for the salary change, so technically from the votes we had a winner, but wasn't a league majority. I'd like to get it decided today before trading season opens up tomorrow. Open to any suggestions.
-
Well, it's kind of in a pickle. Technically the vote ended 6-5 in favor of the sliding cap so no true majority was achieved. So yeah. Oddly the one non-vote was the newest member so also not sure what to think about that.
-
Survey says?
-
We still have two votes remaining and still no consensus on the salary cap, poll remains open until tomorrow evening.
-
Right. I read that, understood that, and then promptly forgot that for some reason. :P
-
Flycatchers, I'm only talking about players with salary of $2 (meaning they were $1 last year) and have not played in a MLB game would be eligible.

I realize the proposal for retroactively designating a player was for the upcoming season only, but I still think it is unjustifiable. :)
-
Many owners balk at drafting players in the lower minors because their salaries skyrocket before they ever play a MLB game. However, if it had been known you could pay whatever amount to land a coveted player then transfer him to your MiLB roster and own him for free, which owners would have jumped in on some of the auctions? And, most importantly, it would enable owners to reduce the MLB cost of a player to $1. E.g., if Moncada hadn't played in 8 games, I could have reduced his salary from $12.
-
Even as a team with many possible MiLB players, I also do not think teams should be able to designate currently owned players as an MiLB selection. If you want that player then continue to roster him, otherwise cut him and try to land him in the MiLB. I feel that to do elsewise is to unfairly benefit a team because, e.g., said player may not have been available (or cheap to acquire) if other owners had known the option to transfer to an MiLB roster was going to be available (where cost is $0).
-
Also. Even if someone is auctioned and won at $1 they can not be added to the MiLB 5 roster. Only drafted players are eligible for that.

I don't think we should go back. The main part of the MiLB 5 is for some younger lower level guys. Plus the reason for the draft to be after he auction is so that if someone really wants that minor leaguer they can bid on him in the auction. So if you want someone that is currently on your roster you would have to not keep him and he would have to make it through the auction.

Well, go-go, I agree with that. So it'd be $2, but I'm not a huge fan of retroactively doing it. Think it should just be now.
-
I'm not a big fan of going backward with players, I think it should be from this point forward and not allow any to be retroactive. If there is a decision to go backward then I think it would logically be only $1 MiLB players who have never been called up.
-
Oops.Sorry. I meant $2 players. $1 last year with the $1 off-season increase.
-
If we do allow players from last year to convert back to MiLB, I think they should only be $3 players. Some minor leaguers would certainly have been drafted in the auction. This is part of the reason the MiLB draft is AFTER the auction draft.
-
We need to make this clear, this MiLB roster would be a separate roster to be maintained. Players can be traded between that roster at will, and as soon as a player is called up they immediately go to a team's roster for $1. Once they're on your active Ottoneu roster they cannot be dropped back to that MiLB roster.
-
Another thought: since this is the first year of the MiLB draft, I think a team should be able to add a player currently on its roster to its MiLB roster in place of a draft pick. Only for one year.

So through trade it is possible to have more than five MiLB players?

I like the MiLB draft, just one clarification. If I trade for an MiLB player on another teams roster, his salary stays the same until a) I add him to my 40-man or he makes his MLB debut, correct?
CronChips on

And watching his salary go up for not playing.

The biggest thing I like about the MiLB is that it allows us to take a chance on single A guys that are 3 years or longer out. Their salary stays the same rather than me having to roster this guy from the beginning

Does the MiLB draft sound awesome? Yes, most definitely. But in this particular format I'm not sure it works the best.
Again, I realize I'm in the minority and it has already passed, but wanted to at least throw my 2 cents out there.
-
I'm obviously in the minority here, but will take the opportunity to voice my opinion on why I voted against the MiLB draft.
In the ottoneu format I have the opportunity to acquire any player I choose, from startup draft to free agents, as long as I am willing to pay the price to do so. Literally, no one is off limits. I thoroughly enjoy this because I am not bound by the random 'snake draft order'. This gives me more control to shape my team without the randomness of draft order.
-
Players with MLB experience (1 PA or IP), so that would take away anybody who's had a cup of coffee. Which I doubt those guys would typically be unowned anyway. At least not the ones worth holding.
-
Here's a pretty detailed look at the MiLB5 system:
http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/ottoneu-101-the-5milb-structure/
-
The MiLB draft will *probably* be a slow draft via email after the draft since they will all be MiLB guys. I'll setup a share thing on Google Sheets so everyone always has access to view and see who is where
-
No worries, I just removed the last one you submitted so back normal. Also, proposals 1 & 3 regarding roster limits and MiLB draft have been approved at this point. Salary cap is still going so if you haven't voted please make sure to vote when you can. The roster limit is pretty easy, you just have to make sure you have enough MLB players to fill your active roster. 15 Day DL guys count toward that goal, 60 Day DL guys do not.
-
Shit. Go ahead and don't count 1 yes vote for each item. I didn't think my votes registered earlier so I just re did it and see that it counted me twice.

Absolutely. You still have minor guys on regular roster. And they follow normal rules. That would make sense for why the draft is after the auction.
