League Message Board

Waddling, do you have anything to say for yourself?
-
We discussed the trade, infirmary, so you are wrong about that. I think all the trades are ridiculous and they are wrecking the league. But I’ve seen a bunch of ridiculous trades in Ottoneu, as was discussed before.
-
It’s by far and away the worst trade in any league ever. Waddling has ZERO guys from that Freddie deal. Commissioners never said a word about it and don’t care.
-
RE the Freeman trade, I thought only a majority of *actual voters* was needed. Some systems are like that. It was 6 veto, no approve, 6 abstain. To me, it should have been a veto cause it's 6-0. So I guess you can kill me for that one. I'm pretty tired of fantasy baseball now, partly because of the trades, but I've got Roman Anthony and I'm not sure I can just leave it behind.
-
I do think the system could be tweaked -- for instance, a trade could be vetoed if there are more veto votes than approved votes. I think that could be better than the way it is now, where the vetos have to beat out the abstentions too. I think the way the loans work in the system is also problematic but I don't know how you'd fix that. I think there are other problems with Ottoneu but that's one more thing in this world I have no control over.
-
I think the beef is with the Ottoneu system -- because the trades are all completely legal and there's no whiff of collusion. I opened my machine, there was the offer, I accepted it of course, now I've dropped Kepler. I would have accepted Eovaldi for nepo Yaz straight up without the loan.
-
Well yeah Kepler was traded for Freddie Freeman. Now Kepler traded with Nate Eovaldi for Yaz
So Waddling gave up Freddie Freeman and Nate Eovaldi for Mike Yastrzemski. Seems fair to the rest of the league forsure. We’ll all be competing in no time for a title.
-
I'm still here, I check. This trade might not be great, I guess, but it's nothing like the Freddie trade, which was by far the worst I've seen. Eovaldi seems better than Yastrzemski to me, but Yas was just traded, so maybe he suddenly becomes a star? I think Kepler has minimal value at this point.
-
Did we just see Yastrzemski get traded for Nathan Eovaldi?
And Kepler the main package for Freddie is now gone?
Does anyone in this league check/care anymore?
-
Yes infirmary the trade went through a month ago. I guess you made your statement about Yaz Cats’ trade offers and then went to rejoin your research team in Antarctica then your research grant got cancelled and you came back to fantasy-baseball-land to find the perfectly legal trade transpired long ago.
-
I mean we’re planning to win the league straight up anyway, but open to anyone trading us their good players to level the playing field a bit.
-
Wait a minute that Freeman trade went through? Just now realizing this. Hilarious, congrats on winning Yaz, well done brotha.
If you want Witt For Alex Vesia let me know. At this point let’s just see how much we can stack your team fair and square!
How did no commish step in and take that trade off the board? We are okay with just paying $ to let 1 guy steal the league?
-
OK Freeman trade goes through Sat morning at 10a eastern. I do see this trade as fundamentally different than the Tucker trade & oughtn't to conflate them. Me and Papi had our reasons but I know that trade isn't that out of the ordinary. On the Freeman trade, maybe Shohei Parlay perhaps said it best, you've got to get some real value back. What is the value of 3 RPs and a Max if you're giving away a free Freddie.
-
Guess I should poke my head up for a minute. Sorry the Tucker trade upset a few people. I obviously have a view of where my team is at and was going to be with Tucker for the balance of this year and beyond - he is undoubtedly was an elite asset on a very (*checks notes*) non-elite Randy Lahey team at the moment. And none of the prospects may pan out. I get it.
Hope some of you enjoyed airing their grievances on it this afternoon and that everyone has a nice weekend.

Me too, abstaining. Carry on, cheers!

I’ll be abstaining just fyi. Cheers

I messaged that I had interest in Freeman. Offer came in, I accepted it, that's the story. Glad we all got got some Friday entertainment. Veto away, makes sense--no problem, no worries, all good, no name calling from me.

I hate vetoing trades, but $31 of cap space is worth significantly more than barely rosterable RPs. At least trade something that COULD have value.
-
Yaz is one of the nicest smartest guys in the world but he should come with a skull & crossbones warning label! Different evaluations are what this game is all about but people are still trading well-decorated delicious birthday cakes for an egg and a cup of flower. Also a bird in the hand is worth two in the bushes. I’m not interested in going down the rabbit hole any further right now and this world has gone mad, mad I tells ya.
-
More than anything and hate to do this, Yaz that’s the type of trades you have been sending everyone for a year now. And it’s kinda Bush league. This is fantasy baseball so it aint that serious, but when you send me Casey Mize and Ezequiel Tovar for Mookie Betts you just insult peoples intelligence and prey on owners who don’t know how to play fantasy. That’s gotta change.
-
With this Freeman trade, if you take Freeman out of the trade entirely, then it might be fair hahaha. I still might rather have Tyler Holton and Strahm than the other side of it though.
-
(FWIW Tucker's avg pts league salary is $42.16)
-
Haha. Glad the message board chatter is making your Friday workday go by faster!
-
Still off the original topic, but...
In a decade-old league:
Schulz traded at $3: 95.5% rostered, avg pts league salary $3.68
Basallo traded at $5: 99% rostered, avg pts league salary $4.22
Walcott (Fangraphs #4 prospect) traded at $8: 8% rostered, avg pts league salary $4.01 (mean salary is $3, so sure, divisive is fair).
3 top-20 prospects. All of the scouts and Ottoneu players can't be THAT wrong...
-
But we're not at the trade deadline. It's one thing for a rebuilding team to trade an expensive star for keepable assets at the deadline. But there's 80% of the season left. (Plus a $53 Tucker isn't even expensive.) And with regards to Freeman, if you don't want his salary, you could just cut now and get $62 back to use the rest of the season when he's claimed or re-auctioned in a few days.
-
(also love some afternoon message board action--helping these meetings fly by)
-
Perhaps selfishly, but I see that trade as fundamentally different. Our disparate evaluations of Morel aside, this feels like a pretty typical Ottoneu prospects-for-expensive player trader. If that trade happened at the deadline or at the keeper deadline, I don't think we'd be having this conversation.
-
The prospects in that trade were already costing too much and tucker and morel are at perfectly reasonable prices. Woollcott is one of those divisive prospects that one must be very skeptical of and Basallo who knows but I don’t think he’s actually been burning up the high minors.
-
And you get Tucker and Morel and actually shave a couple bucks off your payroll? Terrific deal for somebody, and the rest of the league can jump in a lake.
-
The Tucker trade was the third time. The Tucker & Morel trade from a couple days ago is barely more defensible than the Freeman trade. Recently The Athletic surveyed some MLB players and one question was who is the most underrated player in the league. And one answer was “a prospect, any prospect”. Trading an absolutely elite-hitting OF + a major league contributing young IF to a league-leading ream for a couple of can-miss prospects and a possibly serviceable minor league slider pit
-
Yes we’re not talking about illegal, leaving the deeply annoying prospect that no one can do a thing about it. The Freeman trade is the fourth time this has happened in a league I’m competitive in. I’ll be in second place breathing down the neck of first place in mid-summer and then some guy trades an IL-listed $20 Eloy to the first place team for a Soto than was so reasonably priced that he got kept. Just givin it away
-
The best you can say for Kepler is he's sometimes rosterable. Hasn't scored more than 5 pts per game since 2019, when he had his best year, with 6.25 pts per game. every other year he's been under 5 pts per game, including this year. last year he scored 3.6 pts and this year he's at 4.59 pts. And Freeman where is he at? So, no.
-
I need to come to the defense of poor Max Kepler here--he's been pretty good. I don't think it is a good trade, but I also don't know that it is an ILLEGAL trade. We're new to the league though and every one operates differently, so we'll defer to the group.
-
Yeah, at least the Ohtani trade netted a $4 Carroll and Miller. I don't know what the defense would be for this one. Second trade this week of a stud for...?
-
Well we might note that the team who traded away Ohtani for Carrol & Bryce Miller is cruising and the team that got Ohtani has seemingly thrown in the towel in April for 2025. I didn’t have an issue with that one, myself- but remember we had a ridiculous trade in 2023 and that did get a pretty resounding veto. (I’d never seen a trade vetoed before). The current trade is indefensible as far as I’m concerned.
-
Almost as bad as that Ohtani trade 2 years ago. Not quite that level. But Freddie for 3 relievers is hysterically bad. Should be vetoed quickly.
-
Can someone explain how this Freddie Freeman trade is fair?
-
And yes, that trade is... something. Hoo boy.
-
Haha! But yeah, first place in OPL as of now. Pretty sweet.
-
All that said- wow, quite a trade
The review period is only 24 hours.
-
First, I have no idea why anyone would give a darn about Yaz Cats’ dumbass OPL team. I suspect some gamesmanship in Pfaadt’s buttering up.
However I would like to give a shout out to Pfaadt, whose team is excellent.
And my team seems to have got helium recently too! And we’re not finished! Yet!
-
So far, so good, thanks1

I want to give a shout-out to Yaz Cats for dominating in the OPL so far! Awesome job!

Y este año, ¿quién sabe?

As we head into the 10th year of the timmy, let's glance at the champions we've had to date. 2024 Shohei Parlay.
2023 Bloominati.
2022 Who’s Your Papi.
2021 Randy Lahey.
2020 Yaz Cats.
2019 Yaz Cats.
2018 The Infirmary.
2017 Yaz Cats.
2016 Shohei Parlay (my team at the time, then called Are You Segura)

ok, there being no objections, the draft is set for Tuesdee March 11th 8:30p eastern, 5:30 western. i am psyched, i have abandoned all my other fantasy teams (1) to focus on this hitherto neglected squad. see you then.
-
Hm, ok, sorry, i've been a bit haphazard here. I don't think Tuesday the 11th has been eliminated as a possibility-- i've got it there. The 13th seems like it might work but let's try the 11th.
-
13-14th aren't going to work for me. Sorry I didn't chime in because I saw the 8th and thought I would be good. I'll be away at a coaching conference the 13th-15th. I could do pretty much any other weeknight for the rest of the month

I cannot do weekends during college baseball season unfortunately. That’s when my games are. Would have to be weeknight for me.

I set it for the 14th. Ya'll have a little more than a month to clear away a 2 hour slot on your schedule.
