If anyone is interested in joining an ottoneu football league, there is space in a first year league I'm in. It's the "Gridiron Geeks" league: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/football/join_league Same format as baseball, $400 cap, dynasty format, can draft college players. This one is $100 fee. Shoot me a message if you have questions!

Mrewer/AA thanks for sharing that with us. Glad to have you in our league

On the topic of trading cap space, it is a delicate balance. I generally fall in the camp of approval unless detrimental to the league. That being said, I have to be careful myself in trading cap space as the more I trade, the less demand I have to generate high potential returns. I need to try to trade space as it is my only asset. To everybody's points though, it wouldn't be my intentions to upset league balance with a crazy $100 dump.

All interesting and I feel obliged to give insight into the deal based on the discussions. Ultimately it was already hit upon, however Molina and Harrison are both replacement type players while Wacha is decent, but for a team in my position he is overpriced to build around with his lower ceiling. Ultimately I save cap space with a very high ceiling player at a good price next year. While not a deal I make if in contention, I have to capitalize on deals for this type of player.

While we're on the topic of trades, this post is worth reading. Not exactly what we've been discussing, but it highlights the extra layer of strategy ottoneu adds when it comes to managing the salary cap. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/this-week-in-ottoneu/

Gottcha, Ben. I prefer a more proactive position rather than reactive one, but I cannot define emprically what doesn't meet the smell test, so I guess that is why our Ottoneu Creator left it up to each league's teams to vote on and discuss. Don't lose sight of the fact that I voted to approve this trade and am greatly indebted to Mr. Brewer for bailing us out by taking the best of the rest after our Auction. Few would have the courage and fortitude to do so. Have a great season...lets play ball!
-
I have voted against trades in the past, just not often. So I do look at things case by case. I've never been in a league that has off-season transactions, so I'd need to think more about the trade back question. My initial thought is that if it's legal, then it's legal. Owners would just need to consider the response the rest of the league would have (i.e. not willing to trade with an owner who abuses the rules).

Ann = Ayn, of course

So Ben, how do you feel about Trade Backs-- where it looks lke one team traded for a season rental with an auto trade back during the off-season? Would that particular move, the 2nd trade(back) be obscene to you? By the way in the big prize $$ Ottoneu leagues there have been complaints about people owning multiple teams in the same league, then trading between them. Couldn't be proved though and other owners were Ann Rand market theory fans- never voting against a trade, thus not voting a yes.
-
and, Ben, you may well be 100% right. I still believe there is a line that can be crossed with a dump trade that makes it, to use your adjective, obscene. I didn't think so, so I voted approval, but that doesn't mean I won't look at each dump trade and decide each on its merits. You are right and I hinted at it. AAA's only hope besides salary cap trades are dump deals to build a future team.
-
Ben, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. You make some good points for consideration.

(cont...) It’s not up to me to manage someone else’s roster, just to prevent collusion. Regarding this particular trade, Molina is a replacement level catcher, Wacha is a solid yet unproven SP (I don’t happen to be a fan of his low K rate and the number of HRs he allowed last year), and Harrison is a utility player. Reyes is a highly regarded prospect. Sure, it’s unbalanced, but that will be every trade AAA makes. Just my thoughts.
-
I'm not a fan of trade vetos unless the trade is obscene. We're in a unique situation where AAA can either sit tight all year and go into next season's auction flush with cash, or he can try to acquire assets by trading salary space (or a little of both). I’d suspect he doesn’t want to stare at a roster of $1 players for 6 months. So I’m fine with other teams working out deals. I’ve actually seen more controversy over vetoed trades than approved trades in the past.
-
That was not that great of a haul. Wacha is a mid tier starter who now has already been traded twice. Molina and Harrison were guys he picked up off the waiver wire in the last week that anyone could've had. Reyes is a top 10 prospect who should be up this year. How else is he supposed to build a team? I feel like owners are more likely to quit if they can't do dump trades in an effort to compete. I mean this is just for fun right, no money to win.
-
"Trades shall be allowed during the season from the conclusion of the annual player auction until midnight, Eastern Time, on the night of August 31st. " Is our rule enough protection to keep owners from quitting over dumps? Maybe, maybe not.
-
Of course, my approval of this trade is as much as saying it's okay to make a dump trade early, just don't attemp to make one later when the short term results are more obvious. Then too if AAA cannot make dump trades throuhout the season, then he is limited to salary Cap dumps as his only venure for trading. I don't know what the answer is. I'd like to hear some other team owner's thoughts on this, but don't blame you if you act like an Ostrich.
-
Tomorrow is my home league's 32nd consecutive Auction Day.
-
What Happens in August or September when AAA makes the same kinda trade with a team you're in a pennant digfight with? You won't be back the next season if the trade is approved. I've seen it happen in other leagues. The team that loses to a team that wins because of a late dump trade never forgives or forgets and just goes to another league, which is so easy in the Ottoneu setup. I'm only interested in a league that sticks around, but maybe I'm simply out of sync with the new fantasy reality.
