Sorry to hear that, Matt, but I certainly understand. Thanks for the congrats and best of luck with everything; who knows, maybe we'll cross paths again down the road.
-
Oh Matty G, you'll be missed for sure. Arb is a fun process, I don't think I'd seen that Omnibus before, that's pretty interesting, thanks for the share!
-
Congrats Bat Flip, that was a commanding win! Before we get too deep into the offseason I need to formally announce my departure. Have too many leagues and with the new gig I just can't commit the same amount of time to the league and don't want to ever be the guy that forgets to set lineups or just ghosts everyone and ruins the day to day competition. I'll stick around as long as needed, whether that's through arb or even auction, but can't be the manager anymore.

FYI: In the "End of Season" thread in the header, a question was asked: "This is my first year and don’t know what arbitration Is about. Any one have experience with it who can explain what it means, what to expect or advice?" The answer: "This is last year’s Omnibus (https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/ottoneu-arbitration-omnibus-v/); about the most comprehensive run down you will be able to get." May be of some interest to you...

Well done and congrats to Bat Flip on his championship year. Thanks to all for a fun season. Let’s do this again.

HCP = its also an odd year, when guys like Baez, Bell, and Villar don't produce solid pts/game for your offense, it's hard to compete. I have 2 titles and a few top 3 finishes after 3 seasons, but across now 7 leagues (admitted Ottoneu junkie here). This year I have one team above 9th place, ugh, even my two time winner lost it's top SPs to injury and was done for early.

Two comments HCP-- #1 Go the lineup page and scroll down. That will show your production by position and highlight weak areas. #2 Scroll down a bit further and look at games played versus the maximums. You are way short in IP, OF games and a few short in other areas. As you rebuild your roster make sure you get positions filled so you can meet the caps. During the season, daily you have to check the lineup to see that guys aren't taking a day off on you.

I just tried requesting an invite to the slack channel. Google brought me here: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ottoneu-on-slack/5774/130
This is sort of my 1st real year, so I'm not counting myself out quite yet. I was in last year, but had a medical thing that kinda kept me from paying attention much.
I really, really wish there were an app. I may just download a separate browser that I only use for Ottoneu.
My specific question is, why did my team suck? SP disappointment is a great point
-
Like Launch, I’ve been playing 3 full years and have a lot to learn. Really struggled the first few years understanding and assessing player $ values, especially for seemingly lopsided trades. The Ottoneu surplus calculator helped. Let us know specific questions you have so we can assist.
-
This is the end of my third season...I have 5 teams...I have no championships (I'm really close on one, my original team) and I'm STILL learning tons about Ottoneu specifically. My old ESPN/Yahoo leagues are a breeze. Hope you don't get too discouraged, we haven't had a ton of chatter here this season either which can make it feel lonely sometimes.
-
One simple move that you may not be aware of - you have Myles Straw ($2) and Derek Dietrich ($3) as cap penalties. After 30 days, you can nominate these players and cut them again to reduce the cap penalty.
-
There are a lot of really good Ottoneu articles on the Fangraphs site, I pretty well devoured those before I started playing. Also, don't forget that you got basically zero from Kluber/Paxton/Taillon/German this year, which would torpedo anyone's season.

For me, it's been access to the Slack channel almost exclusively. Playing Otto in a silo probably wouldn't be much fun for me too. Not sure what kind of bandwidth you have there...but simply being more in touch with the community and gleaning info from them has made it like 1000x more fun for me.
-
Can I get any tips on Ottoneu? I do pretty well in other leagues, but this one just doesn't seem like a good fit for me maybe?
Always wanted to join one of these leagues, but the lack of an app and not understanding all the different rules has been a pretty big hurdle.
What has helped you guys?

Reminder: trades close at midnight Eastern Time - for those of you not on the East coast.

Same but with Bat Flip running away with it a bit, not sure anyone will take us up on it. One day to go, ready to deal

Alright, this season is a wash for me. I never thought I'd ever see 12 people on the IL in my life! Everyone is available, lemme know who you need. I'll just start stockpiling for next year.

I vote to keep both. The players have aged a year, and I think the arbitration/turnover is part of what makes Ottoneu the game it is.

If inflation is meant to represent the increasing salary of a player as they move from rookie to veteran, that'd certainly stay the same.
I wouldn't expect to see many huge arbitration jumps in the in MLB after the season this year though.
I'd like to see our league fall somewhere in between. Realistically, we should only have to use half our $400 team salary this year, and then have that left over for next year.
-
I’d keep both. Ottoneu echoes a GM’s job and a GM has to deal with similar situations. Inflation forces roster turnover; arbitration ensures fair player salaries. Competitively it would be better for me if we had neither. I will be forced to cut some good players. In this crazy pre-season, I cut Sale and Severino which I wouldn’t have done in retrospect. Ultimately having both inflation and arbitration gives everyone a fairer chance to compete.
-
I'd love to know your opinion of the props, commish. If you have a feeling one way or the other?
-
Currently, it looks like sentiment is yes for inflation and 50/50 on arbitration. Any last opinions/votes?
-
And I think a teams want to freeze arb and inflation for their own competitive advantage creates a disadvantage to the rest of the league. There’s always inherent risk in making those kinds of trades...who in this situation does a freeze help?
-
I'd lean towards forgoing both arbitration and inflation like Corey but I could be on board with inflation. I have a trade I regret now, giving up top tier prospects to win this year 😭😭😭
-
I tend to agree that both arb and inflation should remain in place...but I’m not passionate about it. Put to a vote, I’d likely vote for both staying.
-
I’ll be voting for both arb and inflation. Forces decision making and turnover which makes the off season interesting.
-
Hmm, I'd be inclined to say do both inflation and arb. It's still a season, whether there are 60 games or 162, and there will still be a champion assuming that they are actually able to play. Also, the arb and inflation determine a player's price for *next* year, which I would expect to be a full season.
-
I'd lean towards forgoing both arbitration and inflation, or at least deciding on a lessened version of doing one or both. We should make the decision before the season, to avoid managers being biased by their team's performance in 2020. However, that means we'd be basing our pre-season decision on the assumption that we'll have a 60 game season. Which is hopefully true, but perhaps optimistic. I think the easy option is no arb or inflation -or just do inflation.
-
I’m happy to open up the inflation and arbitration question that Junior has raised. Let me know what you think.
-
Definitely happy with whatever the league decides though. I don't feel strongly about it.
-
I saw in the COVID updated rules that there is an option to turn off salary inflation. We can also decide not to do arbitration. I feel like we should have a discussion and if necessary, vote on this before the season as these obviously have a big effect on player values. My personal opinion is that we keep inflation but forego arbitration because it will be hard to judge 60 games of performance. Secondly, people have given up serious value for a cheaper player and they didn't get a full season.
-
Not sure why the optimism that there will be baseball but sure hope you are correct. I’m ready!
