Even if I don't win, I hope my team has more stolen bases than caught stealing by the end of the season. Sheesh, guys, stop running!
-
Freakin benched Peavy, then was on autopilot before work this morning, and put him back in.
-
Whoa. I expected to lose first place any day now to Silver Sluggers, but Mr. Boom comes zooming past with 170 points before the workday is over.
-
I claim your camping trip off waivers and drop my workday at the urban chicken yard.
-
Wow. Looks like I picked the wrong weekend to go on a camping trip!
-
I had a few overpaid marginal/injured/suspended players I could drop to make room for Upton, who was only $8+ or so over value. Perhaps my gamble won't pay off, but it's fun to see the dominoes fall.
-
Wow, no one is paying the price on their waives because everyone is claiming the dropped players. I'm still new to this, but that's the element I find most surprising. I thought $38 Justin Upton was near untouchable.
-
I figured everyone would love the chance of owning Trout at less than $70. I was wrong.

I made my comment not thinking anyone would jump at $70 Trout. That's a reflection of the reality that any player who is owned at or above value is NOT a good trade piece in general. It's interesting how the upset applecart will right itself.
-
Obviously no rule breaking. Just surprise to see this type of move so early in the season.

Nothing's happening against the rules. People can make remarks about whether they think it's a wise move or not, but unless there's some obvious king-maker strategy going on, these transactions are all legal and fine. It's fine to invest in emerging talent and play for next year, and it's fine to clear salary by dropping a star player.
-
I don't feel too not smart. I had the cash and parts to make it happen now, I didn't want to lose out in a blind auction, and maybe he'll net me some cheap, young talent later on. If not, I still think it won't be my undoing.

work elsewhere.
-
@Ilya, that's a good point, and definitely something I considered, not to mention the expected negative reaction from the league, and I don't totally disagree, but it's also a about personal preference. My personality is such that I don't like feeling trapped/stuck in an unflexible situation. Like I said, it was a mistake on my part to add him thinking I could move him right away. Again, different contexts, different choices. Ideally, I should have read that what may work in one league may not
-
If people object strongly enough, I suppose Chok could add Trout back to my roster and undo my subsequent cuts. A note on loans, usually it's the owner trading the pricey player that makes the loan so that the receiving team can afford it and have an effective cap that's above $400.
-
An interesting dynamic I never really considered was a franchise player like Trout being available early in the season. My strategy of maxing out my team/salary cap doesn't let me make a trade/loan (I have no surplus funds) and doesn't allow me to claim him off waivers (I'd have to drop $100+ in salary to make room for him) or even to re-auction him (I'd have to drop $40+ in salary). I wasn't ignoring the situation, I'd simply tied my own hands.

...now have will net you as good of a return have you found a seller in June or July.

Drakes - I understand what you are saying about different teams and different situations, but one thing I've seen in this game in the almost 5 years I've been playing is that guys aren't in a rush to give a bunch of pieces for one player in April. We all still figuring out what we have and adding who becomes productive. We all are still reacting to injuries and playing time. It's your prerogative to move and cut guys when you feel like, of course, but I just don't think that the cash you ...

If people are smart, and I have no reason to believe they aren't, Trout will go unclaimed and then auctioned at half price.

I'm not trying to win this year. I signed with the intent of trading him. There was zero interest. I own him in another league for $3 less and won't cutting him. Different contexts, different choices.
-
I technically didn't have a choice as my roster was over cap and illegal. I'm not going to pass on players that I'm interested in just because of Trout. Anyone could have spent 71 on him or made an offer for him. If he's that valuable then someone will claim him on waivers and make the needed cuts.
-
Considering the names that are popping up as being auctioned, I can understand why someone would cut Trout.
-
Not meaning to offend anyone, but, we are clear it's not even May? I don't care you are rebuilding, or that people haven't shown interest in your players. There are a handful of guys in baseball that you sit on until you have no other choice. Trout is one of them. Good luck spending that $70 on whatever you will find on the waiver wire now that the season has started.

The object of the game is to score as many points as possible. FYI
-
Well one of the rebuilding teams is going to get him at a pretty great fucking price!
-
I think everyone is optimistic about their lineups this early in the season, and was waiting to see how things settle down. Also, for some reason this league has never done many loans. Not sure why.
-
Anyhow, I obviously miscalculated.
-
What I thought would happen is that someone would offer to take him along with a loan as I've seen happen a lot in my other league with pricey players.
-
Yeah, it's fascinating. The rebuilding teams can afford him, but do they want him at that price? The currently contending teams don't have the payroll. I could cut my entire pitching staff and still not afford him...
-
Trout is also cost prohibitive at $70. Thats probably the bigger issue.
-
Re Trout: I know it's drastic, but I didn't get a single offer for him and only one message expressing any interest in him. Considering half the league hasn't even updated their trade blocks since the winter, it didn't seem like I was gonna get much action.
-
Sorry wrong league!
-
Oh, I haven't been using Slack either. Is there a league page there? Also, TROUT!
-
I still haven't gotten an invite to the league page on slack btw. Is there a reason why we can't have these discussions and votes on Ottoneu instead of slack? It's not clear what the advantage of slack is.
-
The Drake LaRoches's trade block has been updated!
-
Let me see if this works: Man Kyle Seager has been so disappointing this year.
-
I'd like to note that after insulting McCutcheon for underperforming, he hit 3 HRs that night.

The Drake LaRoches's trade block has been updated!

Jamesian Pragmatism's trade block has been updated!

April is fun. $1 Joe Mauer is my best hitter.
-
Wow, McCutcheon is my worst OF, and Melancon is my worst RP...
-
Hotep Votto's trade block has been updated!
-
I nearly dumped Fowler at $14. He has 187 in my lineup.

If you ever get 200+ points in one day, you should brag about it on this message board. Those are always fun.
-
To give you a sense of where I'm coming from, I don't think he's over-priced but I prefer not to have that much money dedicated to one slot. I traded Votto in the offseason for the same reason. He was worth his price tag, but I didn't like having $50 dedicated to one roster spot.
