Hey everyone, first time doing ottoneu so it might take me a minute to get a grasp on the differences. Very excited though, I always enjoy a rebuild.

Dee's Nuts's trade block has been updated!

Welcome LLTK -- good luck in the second half of the season!

#FlagsFlyForever's trade block has been updated!

Seems like a great league- Looking to rebuild this team. I'll consider any offer. Thanks.

The Shlomo Lipetz All-Stars's trade block has been updated!

Welcome to the league Freeman. Finally an owner there lol.

No offense taken on my part. In retrospect, I should have went with my gut and vetoed the trade, as I thought it was fairly irrational. But I still like my chances of repeating as league winner, even if Hamel has loaded up on win-now talent!

Free(man) at Last's trade block has been updated!

Heya Freeman. The team you picked up had an MIA owner for most of the season, and I just marked it as abandoned earlier today. Welcome to the league! Though a little trade-shy, we're an active auction group here. Good luck the rest of the season.
-
How long was the team free? Pretty good team that just needed some curating. First time Ottoneu player, played fantasy for several years, Fangraphs for even longer.

All good. A bit of smack talk is part of the game -- I think we all know where the line is drawn after the Berman debacle.
-
My apologies Commish. I think it took a little time for me to appreciate the ramifications of the Berman chapter of our league's past. My takeaway is that our league's integrity requires engaged owners who take their voting responsibilities to heart. It seems it's our only defense against Berman-style shenanigans as we move forward. Duda, although we probably have different takes on the Berman deal, I believe my prior post was a bit harsh - my apologies to you. Here's to a fun 2nd half..
-
Agreed. I felt like the league made a collective decision (albeit a divisive one) about the trade, though I will be more diligent about potential trouble owners going forward.
-
Hamel, congrats on your hyperbolic rise in the standings created by your trade with Berman Brothers - wow! (Trea, if you don't know, Berman is the former, unhinged owner of your club). Duda, you helped create this monster by approving the ill-fated trade, so I'll have little sympathy as I watch you bleed out over the remainder of the season. If Ottoneu's wants to mirror MLB, there is a learning moment to be had here - this never would have happened in MLB.
-
Thanks! By the way everyone I'm making votto available. I'd like some young, affordable pitching talent in return. Trying to free up some cap space. Just be warned I'm not giving him away as he is very valuable in this format. Looking for a nice return here. Leave an offer or message if interested
-
Welcome to the league Trea
-
Thank you! Looking forward to an enjoyable rest of season. Just looking at the roster it appeaes I have a plethora of prospects and could use some arms or salary. Always feel free to drop me a trade offer. Good luck everyone!
-
Hey folks, we have a new GM (connected through the Otto page) to take over Berman, at least for the remainder of the season. Welcome aboard!
-
His username is aberman88. Although I guess he could come in under a new name.
-
Yes, I am also considering abandoning the few inactive teams, though didn't want Berman to claim one of them again. I don't think there's a way to ban a user from the league, so maybe we'll wait a couple of days before doing so.
-
just don't let Berman claim one of them, lol
-
I think Dee is making a good point Commish, I second the motion. Might have prevented this trade travesty
-
Hey Commish, I think you should consider abandonding the teams with no activity and letting them go ahead and expire. Maybe someone would come in and prepare for next year. Just my opinion.
-
LOL, same here too. That dude is a nut. I get to continue dealing with this clown in another league. Dude's a nut. Also, trades don't get vetoed in Ottoneu leagues. It's damn near impossible(I've only seen one and it was Berman in the other league). This league is even more limited due to missing a few owners. While I understand trying to get the best you can in a trade, try to keep them fair. If you feel it will get vetoed, counter with a more respectable offer.
-
Same here. In one day, he said he wanted to shed salary and rebuild, then wanted Trout because he wanted to try and finish in the top 3, then hours later wanted to rebuild again ...
-
Totally agree the trade should stand and didn't mean to raise any debate. Just stating why I vetoed. I had similar experience with Berman. Responded to his initial complaint about nobody willing to trade and he alternated between telling me he was looking to win now and very quickly after saying he was looking to rebuild.
-
Haha, thank you for kicking Berman out! I wanted to rip into him the instant that he started trashing the league, but I tried to keep things cordial. And even though I defended the trade, it seems in retrospect mostly intended to stir up controversy and not a true win-later strategy. Good riddance to that troll.
-
Oh and for the sake of clarification in that original offer I sent him, the final player I listed was Carson Fulmer ($1).

Again, I like the league. Sorry for the lengthy posts, but I was involved and felt inclined to comment.

In here and in Yahoo. I agree that no manager should be hostile and insulting. This is fantasy baseball. I like this league, but I'm new to Ottoneu. Thanks for not slamming me for accepting it and seeing what would happen. I would have accepted a veto, but since it wasn't I kind of agree that it should stand. Of course that must sound bias as it benefits me so much, but I'm trying to be objective about it. We have a system to decide. Again, I hope I didn't contribute to something bad.

He shot it down and said he changed his mind and wanted to try to acquire stars and try to contend. Since I figure we are in the same spot, I don't make another offer. A few days go by and I get that offer. I figured there was a reasonable chance it would be vetoed. But I took it knowing I'm not keeping a lot of these star players, I'll have to shed a ton of salary. So it's only a this season thing. I don't want to hurt the competitive balance of any leagues. I commish some leagues too.

Hey guys, I was on a business trip far from home over the last few days. Read all the emails but couldn't chime in until now. Just wanted to tell my side. I saw his post that no one is trading, so I looked at the block. Saw he said he wanted to dump high priced players for prospects. So I launched a starter offer just to get the convo started. I offered J.P. Crawford ($10), Mesoraco ($6), A.J. Reed ($1), Kang ($4), Fulmer and $0 for Yelich ($32), Verlander ($20) and $52.

That deal in a second. The league had a chance to veto and didn't. Again, sorry to instigate. I enjoy being a part of the league and look forward to the rest of the season.
-
Sorry to instigate. While I concede my roster is a dumpster fire, I've executed a trade with just about everyone in this league, including Berman, since I took over the thome squad last winter. If he was making offers that created value for the other side, I'm sure he would have found takers. I have no issue with rebuilding strategy either, I'm doing it myself to an extent, but the trade was a giveaway that tilts the balance of the league. And I take no issue with Hamel Toes either, I'd do ..
-
Interesting stuff about Berman's exploits in other leagues. I think we've got a good core group, and like to think of our top teams as a challenge to conquer ... one day!
-
Definitely made the right call commish. Always enjoyed this league, looking forward to the rest of the season as long as Puig doesn't win...

Turns out ABS is Berman in 2022. I got stuck with that clown in two leagues. Hilarious. What an A-hole. Good riddance. Nice job Commish! Dude needs to get a life. This league is awesome. Screw him!
-
I'm actually in a 3rd league where I haven't done anything controversial. At least not yet.
from ABS
-
468. It got 5 vetoes but still passed and I managed to get into it with a couple people on that message board also, though I was on the Peavy side of the argument (just in base you guys thought I was a hypocrite for arguing for my trade in this league). That league is pretty crummy- not active and no one seems to have a clue what they are doing with the same two teams always winning. I'm new to Ottoneu so new to all of these leagues.
from ABS
-
Also insane. What's the league #? I have to see this with my own two eyes.
from another owner in that league
-
Just for comparison purposes, in one of my other leagues I just traded for Amed Rosario. He is $6 in that league (and I also got Archie Bradley (at $1). To get him I had to trade Madison Bumgarner ($50), Ian Desmond ($21) A Ramos ($7) Yu Darvish ($27) and Christian Yelich ($32).
from ABS
-
I just checked into another Ottoneu league I play in and found messages from a problem owner in the league under team named ABS. He tried to trade away Tyson Ross, Sean Manaea, Stephen Piscotty, Amed Rosario for Carlos Gonzalez, Clayton Kershaw, Brad Hand, Kelvin Herrera, Jason Kipinis. Has caused major drama in the league and been a complete A-hole. I'm gonna post his messages in the next threads.
-
I don't have a problem with teams that want to tank (think it's a legit strategy), though I also didn't think that was a particularly good trade. The issue here is that I don't think most of us would have wanted to deal with one GM ignoring warnings and insulting the league for the rest of the season. Hope y'all understand.
-
I've removed Berman's GM from the league. Honestly would rather have an inactive team than a toxic GM.
-
I like being the guy that everyone hates. This is fun!
-
I should have known something was wrong with the league when I was able to pick up a team that was already paid for. Yes, this league is so bad that someone paid for a team and then quit before the year because the owners were so bad.
And I'm not looking for approval I just think it's pathetic that people veto a trade when they've rejected similar offers and show a complete lack of understanding of the rules.
-
I don't usually take things too seriously on here, but Berman needs to grow up. Hurling insults and lashing out after making an objectively bad trade is not a great look. You made the move, now own it. Stop looking for approval and whining when you don't get it from a group of owners that's been together for 4 years now. Sorry commish, but someone had to say it.

Ironically making that trade will probably keep me in the league. While this is by far the worst of the Ottoneu league's I joined this year I don't really have to worry about paying that much attention since no one is really interested in making a trade and I can monitor the waiver wire via email.
