and bid $2. I actually got stuck with a few I preferred not to win. That's part of it. I think once the last owner attending at the end of the draft selects the last player, the draft should be over at that time. No one should be able to come back later and fill out their team. And if they were allowed to, it should be done in the same 30 second time limits that owners were held to the entire draft. Everything's good. You did the right thing. Now let's move on and enjoy the season.
-
I think that's the right thing to do. And let me clarify, I don't think you were intentionally trying to do something wrong. Your a good Commish. I think owners shouldn't be allowed to leave the draft and not be held to bid players, then come back at the end and fill up with no one attending. Don't loose sight of the challenge to nominate a player within thirty seconds. That is part of the challenge on draft day. I actually had to nominate players and was hoping someone would bail me out
-
It's messy, though I can't work around it any other way. Please do not use the site UI to start auctions on those six players. Everything else is business as usual. Thanks!
-
... And now I am unable to start the auction for those 6 players because the system blocks teams from bidding on players that they cut within 30 days. As an unwieldy solution to a special problem, Jerad Eickhoff, Aledmys Diaz, Randal Grichuk, Jharel Cotton, Joakim Soria and James McCann are on "open auction" that ends at 3/9 at midnight ET (Friday night). I am starting the auctions for each of those players at $1. If you would like to bid, please make a "[Player name] - [$]"
-
Next season, we will set both a beginning and "end" time for the draft to avoid this scenario, and it's likely we will require nominations. Good luck this season, everyone!
-
I'm doing this not because my pickups were done improperly, though I'm considering the interpretation that another GM could have been waiting until even later to rejoin the room and fill out their team, and did not get to do so because I closed the draft room after I filled out mine.
-
So I don't think "special pick-ups" is a fair characterization of what happened here. However, since I did not formally announce a time when I would check the "end auction draft early" box and thus officially beginning our FA auction process, I will return the players I picked up when I rejoined the draft room (while the draft was still open).
-
I had the time to pick those players because again, no other GM was connected to the room. Everyone had left presumably because everyone was done nominating and picking players. The 6 players before I reconnected were selected between two teams presumably because everyone else had voluntarily left. In short, I was selecting players that no one in the draft had nominated prior to that point, and was "competing" against myself (since again, I was the only person in the draft room).
-
To clarify, the draft room was definitely still "active" when I re-entered at 11:40. I know this because I have to check a box that says "end auction draft early" to actually close the room to start the FA auction process. Until I checked that box, any other GM who did not select "I'm done with the draft" in the draft room could have reconnected.
-
I'm not upset with you. You do a fine job as Commish, but in this situation, the right thing was not followed. I'm competitive as hell. Doesn't matter if we are playing checkers for free, I'm gonna be competing hard. It's what makes it fun for me. I believe you should go through the auction bidding process to pick up players after the draft ended at 11:20. Your leaving the draft doesn't give you the option to make special pick ups.
-
to make my selections. Don't tell me you didn't scroll through all the remaining players to find your picks. It would not have taken 25 minutes to pick 6 players. The 30 second urgency to find a player to bid on is a part of the challenge to find your players. Bottom line is that you used your Commish access to add players that other owners could not have done. You should put those players back on in the free agent pool and bid them through the auction process like other owners must do.
-
Actually the draft was over at 11:20. No other team could have drafted any players. Draft was locked for all other teams. Freeman, for example has open roster spots. He did not have the option to add players 20-45 minutes after the draft ended. The only reason you were able to add players is due to commish access. You should have to follow the same procedures Freeman or another owner would have to follow. You had 20-45 minutes to pick 6 players. I, at the end of the draft had 30 seconds
-
I noticed the later adds, but then went 30sec times 11= 5.5 minutes. (I stopped bidding early)
I think it's a clever use or the draft. No hard feelings here

We could require nominations next year, though that would lock a GM out each time a nom was skipped (which happened a bunch early in the draft). Happy to revisit after this season.
-
Hey Dee's, the players I picked up at the end of the draft were done while the draft was still active -- there just wasn't any GM left by the time I got back into the room, so I was the only one nominating players. Any GM could have nominated those same players before I got back in, so I did not skip the auction process. Hope that clarifies things.
-
Gotta require nominations at auction next year
-
Did I miss the auctions for the players you picked up after the draft Commish? No offense, but you should not be able to add players unless others can bid as well. There is a challenge racing the clock at the live draft to select your final players in time. You shouldn't be able wait till after the draft to get first pick at free agents. Should go through the auction process. Maybe I missed something, if so let me know.

Man, I got a lot of homework to do. And that not even counting my college homework... lol. I'm actually quite intimidated by the draft right now.

Done and done. It will be real interesting to see how you having the full $400 will affect the draft. Welcome to the league SCI!

I knew it sounded familiar. That *is* a great name for a team!

Upon being elected to the Hall of Fame, Satchel Paige observed, "The only change is that baseball has turned Paige from a second class citizen to a second class immortal." Not only was Satch the greatest pitcher there ever was (in my humble opinion), he had a way with words--and it makes a great team name!
-
So you're the new 400 pound gorilla. Lol. Good luck! (What's your team name from? Seems like a inside joke that I don't get?)

Hello, I just claimed Long Live The King. The fact that the team has no players was hugely appealing to me; it will be a lot of fun to start with literally nothing and see how competitive the team can be. So I have asked the Commissioner NOT to restore any players to the team. The auction draft should be a blast!!
-
I'm fine with adding players back to LLTK's team. I knew something was up when he traded for 17 different guys during the offseason and then proceeded to drop them all. Dick move, agreed.
-
3/5 works for me. ... I always suspected Long Live the King was Berman in disguise. Anyway, I think recreating the roster and letting a new owner make cuts would be appropriate. However, knowing that one guy could outspend everyone else at auction likely influenced some keeper decisions. But I do think rebuilding the roster and letting a new owner make the cuts is the best way forward. Thanks to the commish for handling this!
-
That will happen no later than this weekend. For the sake of fairness, I will give that option to return players to all GMs, in case some of y'all made late cuts based on the FA pool. Just DM me and I'll get it sorted out this weekend.
-
Hey everyone. First: We have 7 GMs who are good for 3/5, so that's when the draft will be barring some unexpected occurrence. Please block off 60-90 mins of time for it! Secondly re: LTTK, Dee's right in that it will probably be a challenge for a new owner to take an empty team. I'm going to consider the whole thing a troll move, and will possibly add players back to that team who were cut while under the FG average value.
