Unbelievable game last night. God I love baseball.
-
No, that's definitely going to happen after arbitration. It should have a small enough effect on everyone to not upset the strength of the better teams, but we should be able to see how it affects leaguewide competition.
-
So is the November cut-to-under-$400 idea dead? If not se should get that figured out before trade season starts in a couple weeks.
-
Just got my allocations done.Thx everyone for having me in this pool. Can't wait for this season to start . GO CUBS
-
Mine will get done. The deadline is Nov 14
-
I really hope the remaining teams finish their allocations, when half a league doesn't do arbitration it kinda defeats the purpose of it
-
anyone interested in a 1st year league? https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/717/home
-
Charlie's Hustle's trade block has been updated!
-
5 more teams left to finish allocation
-
We're waiting for one more team to check in, then we'll have all 12 in for the season.
-
Id be a vote for! Vote for change!

Also, if people haven't already done so, please make sure everyone uses their allocation $$$
-
So should we have a vote for the new cap change? Just to make sure it's what we want?
-
Welcome! That was fast, got our commish changed and a replacement manager for the old commish's team in 24 hours.
-
Happy to join here, looking forward to competing with you guys.
-
I sent an email to niv about a commish change. If this league dies out, there are five open teams in this league. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/362/home. There will likely be a deep draft pool since there will be a few teams that will have to cut $100ish worth of salary.
-
The downside of not knowing where players will end up would affect everyone equally, or at least impartially, so I don't see that as a major issue. With that being said, I don't have strong feelings either way.
-
I think the good (high player turnover, greater competitiveness, etc) outweighs the bad of having to make an early decision on one or two players in this situation. I think we can all agree that by having more competitive teams later in the year makes for a better league instead of teams not being active because their out of it after June 1st. Rebuilding a team is fun but I'm sure more people would be receptive if it took a year or two less than it does now.

$43 is nothing too. Its one bloated contract, or a few small no keepers and obvious scrub cuts. The main idea is to actually create a downside to buying or dumping in april, and to get more players into the auction while possibly removing the element if horrible off season trades.
-
There are always a few specific instances where a rule change can have a negative effect. But ultimately I think it will create a more competitive environment and the 'good' of this change will far outweigh the 'bad'. But that's just the opinion of the newest owner in the league. If implemented I'd actually have to make over $43 worth of cuts, but I still think it will be beneficial in the long run.
-
Then I think thats on the owners to adjust their rosters accordingly if they want to hold on to a guy for more information. If you're wrong on a guy you can always get him back in auction.

I disagree. For example I'd like to know more about Strasburg's injury before I make a cut decision on him. I want to know if Wade Davis will be traded before I cut Kelvin Herrera. I want to know if Greinke gets traded back to the Dodgers before I cut him loose. The more I think about this rule the less I like it. I really don't like the idea of having to make these decisions in November before the MLB off-season has settled which is probably why the actual cut deadline is set in January.
-
People aren't going to be cutting anyone they may consider keeping. Its the bloated rental contracts and $3 filler players that will be cut.
-
You can imagine a situation where you own for example a 20$ Rich Hill and you'd lean keep if he stays with the Dodgers or signs with someone like the Giants but lean cut if goes to the AL East and signs with Red Sox or Yankees. If you’re over the cap you could potentially have to make these decisions without knowing where you’re players will end up and how this might change their value. I personally don’t like this aspect of the potential new rule.
-
I do have one minor issue with the off-season cap is that it sets another cut deadline in November. I imagine the actual cut deadline is set at the end of January so that most major trades and free agent signings are done so that you know where each player on your roster is going to start the year and probably their role on the team (platoon, everyday starter, closer vs setup man). With this new rule you'd have to make early cuts without knowing how a lot of that stuff will play out.
-
Someone get help@ottoneu.com on the line, and make that happen.
-
I wouldn't mind taking over this one and dumping my other one, or the other way around. We have a bunch of similar owners and mine has a lot of open teams.
-
Well that's not good. Makes it kinda difficult to get things changed and done if the commish is MIA with no Co-leader in place.
-
Also the commish has been inactive since the summer. He's in one of my 5x 5 leagues I run.
-
It wouldn't be a hard cap. It would force everyone to be under the cap at the start of trading, then the cap becomes irrelevant.
-
I think this may also end up being a good indication of how many owners are going to come back for next season.

I tend to agree with Slash and Burn that it might not be fair to make the change for this off-season but I'm interested in hearing the opinion of others.
-
True. This was just a very recent discussion that started after the trade deadline anyway.

Thanks for the clarification. I can probably be convinced either way. Though if deciding this before the trade deadline would have changed how owners managed their roster before the end of the season, then it might not be completely fair to tack on now.
-
Its kind of an odd time to talk about this being as its during arbitration. Its also difficult when the commish has gone radio silent.

Hotspurs I don't think it's possible to change the roster spots in Ottoneu, they are fixed.
-
Its been talked about in the Ottoneu community boards. The $400 limit means you would have to cut down to $400 or under in order to make trades during the off season much like during the season. The idea is to keep owners from trading for too much salary and ends up creating more player turnover.

It means you can't make any trades until you're under the cap. So if you had some expensive guys you can't afford to keep but you think are still valuable, you might have to cut them instead of trading them.

Hotspurs Baseball Club's trade block has been updated!
-
RE: $400 salary limit in offseason.....not sure exactly what that means or how it makes things different.
-
Another suggestion, we have a MiddleI infield spot, would changing that to Corner infield or instead having a second utility be better?
-
Also, back from my offseason vacation! Time to get the grind going again
-
That works for me as well
-
Ok with me.
-
Should we use the $400 Salary limit in the offseason that's been discussed in the community in this one? I think Donkeys has gone dark.
