Dude, nobody is calling you out that way. All we're saying is it's important to keep teams legal. It's important during the season too, just nobody notices because they assume a team won't want to be locked out of their lineup. And that team paid the penalty by ending up with only 10,000 points. You haven't made any good argument for why your team shouldn't be legal and the other team over the limit has already fixed it. Why does this have to be a big deal?
-
I don't think anyone is implying that you are destroying the integrity of the league. It was just a comment about getting rosters legal. Nothing wrong with that. If the Keith Law guy has checked out, nothing anyone can do about that. You seem to be active, therefore it makes sense to comment.
-
So if you ignore messages, you can cruise along all season with an illegal roster, but if you check out for two weeks at the end if the season, you have a guy acting like I singlehandedly meant to destroy the integrity of they league.
-
c. At no time should a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner.
Fangraphs leaves it a bit open.
-
I meant to get legal a while ago. Rosters are locked and I can't cut-commish please remove my $44 Bautista.

I think it'll still let you trade during the offseason. The remedy is just having teams get legal.
-
Can you still trade if you have an illegal roster? I thought everything was closed off for you.
-
I'd suggest having teams get right immediately. It gives an unfair trading advantage if someone has more players to package. And potentially an unfair advantage in arbitration with more players who could receive allocation. The commissioner can make the cuts if an owner selects the players he wants to cut.
-
I meant Dahmer, of course. Will have to Google "Daumier"
-
... if you're seen to be abusing roster size limits that will be taken under consideration.
-
Daumier, yes please make those cuts to get your roster down to 40 + however many players were on the 60-day DL. That's my understanding of a legal roster. In Spacemans case, I saw four players on the 60-day, plus Mesoraco, who hasn't played since April, unless I'm missing something. So I give the benefit of the doubt there. I've messaged Law periodically with no luck. Everyone will need to get right before the mandatory cut/salary cap deadline. Trades are all voted on, so ...
-
No clue. Not sure what Keith Law's roster looked like most of the season. I am not keeping track of anyone's roster.
-
Where was all this vigor about this rule when Keith law ignored it most of the season?
-
Anyway, the short of it is this: teams must maintain a legal roster of 40 players, and field positions.
-
My leagues all follow that rule as well.
-
Every league I'm in has enforced the rule and handled this the exact same way. Otherwise anyone can just auction the entire Ottoneu universe on the last day of the year, which makes no sense. Can't see why any league would want to allow illegal rosters.
-
But I do certainly love it when someone is feisty on the internet. It is something we absolutely never, ever see.
-
I don't see anything wrong with someone wanting rosters to be legal.
-
This is not controversial. Anyone can click on the rules tab and see you have to maintain a 40 man roster plus any 60 day DL guys.
-
I went over with spot starters the final day when I got to busy to make the cuts, so I could easily cut them, but this should be a league discussion.
-
Point me to the consequences in the rulebook. Barring that, a link to the league rules where they're mentioned would be suffice. I'll wait.
-
Not trying to step on your toes, but it's clear in the Ottoneu rules that everyone has to maintain a legal roster.
-
I'm sorry. Are you instituting a rule and consequences unilaterally? Unless you're my wife or my boss, I really hope you don't expect me to jump because you tell me to.
-
Looks like Dahmer's and Little Spacemen are the only teams with more players than roster spots. Would be really nice to have those teams legal ASAP.
-
The only thing scarier than clowns on Halloween is the thought that any owner would squander allocation money. REMINDER: Participate in arbitration!
-
Yeah, just talking about roster size, not cap.
-
by "legal rosters" do you mean you just can't be over the maximum roster size? Or are you talking about being under the $400 cap as well? I'm on board with the first one, maybe not the 2nd.

Also, it would be good for all teams to have legal rosters going into the offseason. The commissioner can make the cuts to help teams get legal. This prevents teams from being able to auction the entire Ottoneu universe on the last few days of the season, if that makes sense.
-
Have you allocated your arb dollars yet? Half the league can't answer "yes" to that question. Make sure you do it. Deadline is November 14, right around the corner.
-
The Exponentials's trade block has been updated!
-
Setting the 5 MiLB discussion aside for a second: IT'S ARBITRATION TIME. You guys will be getting a lot of reminders from me on this, because—and I can't say this enough—it's the best way to make this league competitive. Please study up and allocate your dollars. Or allocate. Just don't flake or sit out! Thanks!
-
Nellies-You can still auction any minor leaguer in season that isn't on a team's 40 man or 5 MiLB roster. I honestly don't care much if we do it or not, but wanted to make sure everyone understands what it is. I think I can find a full description of the process later tonight and post it.
-
Got in on this convo late but, I love having the option to add players that I have seen come through town midseason, since we have a minor league team here. This would take that option away. Therefore, I'm not a big fan. But, I am all about democracy so, whatever the group wants, I will go with it.
-
I say let's do it for 2017! It makes for some fun trade possibilities. And the regular auction takes place before the 5MiLB draft, so any prospects you think are worth a buck or more can still be take in the auction. Like someone said, most of the guys taken in the 5MiLB portion are at least a year away from the majors or are near-term prospects who aren't in the top 100.
-
I'll just add that my opposal isn't as vigorous as it might seem. I rather wait a year, hash out all the details, and prepare, but if everyone else is all gung ho to do it now, that' fine, too.
-
...more fair to do the 5MiLB draft after the 40 man auction.
3. Yes, but it’s not evil! It’s kind of the point. Let’s say we had 5MiLB four years ago, and you had the insight (or luck) to draft Trevor Story in 2012. You would have owned him at $0 through 2015, and when he made his major league debut in 2016 he got “promoted” to your 40 man roster at a cost of $1.

Expos –
1. You can always start an auction for anyone in season, even if they meet the 5MiLB criteria, as long as they’re not already on someone else’s 5MiLB roster.
2. I’ll be implementing this for the first time (in other leagues) in 2017, so this is only hearsay – but my understanding is that other leagues do the 5MiLB draft AFTER the keeper deadline but BEFORE the 40-man auction. I’m not entirely sure why…I would imagine that if this league did implement 5MiLB in 2017 it wo

Dahmer - I don't disagree, and although I think it would’ve had only minor effects on end-of-year rosters I think it’s entirely reasonable to wait for 2018.

3. Let's say, hypothetically, that you're evil and want to take advantage of this system. Can you sit on a player at $0 salary until the day he gets called up for his debut in the majors?
-
Thanks, that is an important clarification. I had the same question about whether current MiLB guys would remain on our rosters. Two more questions: 1. During the season, are you not allowed to start an auction for ANY MiLB guy who meets the 5MiLB criteria? (In other words, is this separate draft the only time you have a shot at these kinds of players?) 2. Does the 5MilB draft happen before or after the regular free agent auction draft?
-
You're still taking the top 60 prospects left in the pool. Even if you're only talking the top prospect left, you're telling eleven teams after the fact that they have no shot at him. It would have changed how people valued him at the end of the season.
-
Jamestown gets to keep crawford/ robles/ torres/ brinson etc. The 5MiLB draft is for players that nobody thought was worth $1 and a roster spot. In my mind, it's mostly for interesting guys in low A that might be good 4 years from now.

I don't disagree that implementing this for 2017 would've changed how people modified their rosters at the end of this year, and I’m ok to wait until 2018 - but I also think there's a misunderstanding about this. Most of the top 60 prospects are already owned, and they're not getting pulled off of anyone's team for a 5MiLB draft...

Taking the top 60 prospects out of the pool should have changed how everyone treated the end of their bench during the end of the season.
-
Yeah, nobody who is on one of our team's rosters is eligible for the 5 MiLB draft. So Jamestown could keep everyone he currently has. You would only be able to draft minor league players who are not on one of our team's rosters and have no MLB at bats or innings pitched.
-
I'm fine with this format or current. Will follow the herd for the most part. There may e other reasons to delay it, but as for the concern about milb players on current rosters, wouldn't/can't they just be excluded from this? i.e. the first draft would just apply to any players that fits the guidelines that is a free agent in our league.
-
TBF though, my team sucks either way. So I guess I dont really care what we do. Ha!
-
I think it would be unfair to implement this season because some teams (what I really mean is my team) is built for the future. I knew I wouldnt win this year, so I got top prospects. I would not have done any of that if I knew I wouldnt have been able to keep them the next season. Otherwise, I am fine with implementing it in 2018. If people want to change it to next season, I would accept it if it went to a vote.
-
I play in one league with 5 Milb and it's a lot of fun. I'd like to hear a little more discussion about why it would be unfair to implement for 2017. Seems like any perceived unfairness could be balanced out by drafting in reverse order of standings.
-
I also like this approach and agree that 2018 should be the earliest we implement.
