Awful trades like the Trout and Kershaw, gave unproven players... For the 2 best MLB players. Not sure anyone else would've made that deal. Should I have thrown a fit and vetoed It?
-
Yeah terrible arguments... Also Southside does check his roster. I can look at when everyone dies. The only team that doesn't is Harrison, it's been a month.
-
I really enjoy this league, and my status and participation in it won't wane because of this trade. Thunder, I think you're proving just how terrible this trade is by making horrible arguments for its passing.

-
Did that guy update his roster after opening day?
-
I don't disagree, Coastal, but here's the thing. I once played with a guy who only wanted Orioles on his team. He would not respond to any trade offers unless the only players included were Orioles, and the players he would have to give up were not Orioles. Strange, yes, but that's how he ran his team. The point is that until we have evidence of collusion, I think we have to assume good faith. Plus, it's not worth blowing up a really great league over a Nelson Cruz trade.
-
When a manager only responds to trades from one team, there is something more than a lopsided offer going on.
-
And one other thing. Vetoes substitute the opinion of the league for the opinion of the traders. If I can sweettalk Coastal into trading me Carlos Martinez for nothing (as an example, sorry, Coastal), through my sheer negotiating skills, that doesn't mean the trade should be vetoed. The whole point is to see who plays the market best. As I said, it's not a trade I would have made, but the merket's job is to adjust strategies accordingly, not veto the trade.
-
History, I get it, and to a large extent that's true. But I have been in leagues where there is obvious collusion. This is, as far as I can tell, not that. Maybe SouthSide likes Marisnick, knows Marisnick, has his own valuation. I think it's a bad deal. But vetoing trades leads to problems - as we are seeing. Apparently Southside will accept below market price, and Thunder will pay below market. So, use that when trading with Thunder and Southside. Vetoes defeat the strategy of trading.
-
Vetoing is for collusion, I don't know him never met him. No collusive activity. Vetoing a deal because you're pissed you didn't do it isn't a good reason people. I don't know why it's such a big deal . I will just trade the same guys back or cancel it if that helps. But of babies if you ask me.

Dark Knight, to your last comment I would respond that although what you say is essentially true, being able to actually prove collusion is exceedingly hard. I think saying something like "no veto except in cases of collusion" is pretty much saying that you will never, never veto a trade.
-
Just because you wouldn't make the deal doesn't make it bad. Also it's good business to think of things like suspensions.

Don't worry guys I will veto every deal from now on.

I approved it simply because it seems to be a good faith deal and I hate vetoing trades. It's a *bad* deal, a *very very, very bad deal*, but a good faith one nonetheless, until I have evidence otherwise.
-
I think South Side must give his reasoning for the deal here on the message board for the league to see.
-
When I first saw the trade, I was like "what the hell?" That return for Cruz is something you expect to net a middle reliever or backup infielder for. For the record, I vetoed the deal given the suspicious look of a (rather inactive) bottom feeder appearing to give up being competitive.
-
I have Jhonny Peralta, who has also been suspended, for $7. I wouldn't even THINK of trading him for something similar to Marisnick/Hunter, and the possibility of a suspension would never even cross my mind. I don't think that you did anything wrong, but it's weird, and I hope that the trade gets vetoed, because it's not a good trade. Just my two cents.
-
Regardless of whether he responded or not, the trade is a bad trade. Even in my simple-baseball brained mind. I for one VETOED the fuck out of that trade as soon as I saw it. Sorry dude. I'll give you Encarnacion for Hunter and Parsinick if you want.. ?
-
I get it , I don't like when people don't respond and have no idea why he responds to my offers.

Seriously though, dude hasn't adjusted his lineup since opening day and only responds to your trade requests? You can't tell everybody that doesn't seem strange to even you.
-
It's actually a good argument, why risk great prospects for a guy that can be suspended, sorry you didn't offer. I don't try to justify everyone else's trades man. There's plenty of awful one sided trades that happen every year.

Saying he's a piss test away from being suspended is a terrible argument. How many big league players have tested positive twice? Before I made the Trout trade, CJ Edwards, Daniel Norris and Nomar Mazara would have been way better value for Nelson Cruz than what he got. I never offered him anything for Cruz because I figured for that value he was untouchable, even for a rebuilding team at the bottom of the standings.
-
You guys are making way too much of this. I don't know South from anyone else. I sent an offer he took it. Marisnik isn't too far removed from the top 100 prospect list and Cruz is a piss test away from being suspended for a season. What's the proper value if you guys know so much more then us?

For the record, I'm still a buyer. I'm on pace to finish third and with a little luck and some trades I think I can make a run at the title.
-
I must say, it's been an unconventional, but impressive, turnaround.
-
Hence the "inevitable elimination" part of my defiance, Runs. BUT...last to third in one offseason (if I can pull it off) ain't bad at all, I think.
-
Well, Gotham, you ARE about 200 IP over the limit...
-
I'm staging a comeback! Y'all better watch out! The south will rise again!
-
Re: Coastal. I REFUSE TO CONCEDE DEFEAT!! I SHALL REMAIN ON THE PERIPHERY UNTIL MY INEVITABLE ELIMINATION! lol :)
-
"It only really it hurts me." I guess Papa and Thunder are the only teams still in the race?
-
While I agree that the trade is questionable, it seems two owners apparently agreed to it in good faith. Unless there's actual evidence of collusion, I hate vetoing trades. I think it's just something to keep in mind in future negotiations with Thunder and SouthSide. Unless, of course, SouthSide is Thunder's AAA team now.
-
There are plenty of trades where I scratch my head at. But they always make sense in some weird way. There's nothing that makes sense about this. Even if Nelson Cruz starts to drop off with old age, he's going to outperform his salary for the next couple years. And if he doesn't drop off, he's one of, if not the biggest veteran bargain in this league. Jake Marisnick is a mediocre player and Hunter has no long term value. The trade is garbage.
-
I've seen plenty of lopsided trades, but there's almost always an apparent angle. I don't see any of those angles here. And I only meant a league veto, definitely not a commissioner veto. I just want to make sure we're on the same page here.
-
Well in this situation, I don't think I can intervene without bias. If the league (7 owners) veto the trade, then it will be cancelled. That's the best I can do. I don't like intervening in owner's trades, since they are all pretty subjective.
-
I had a trade open with him for about a month, with no response. I eventually traded one of the included players to another team, but I'm sure it would have sat around. Definitely a fishy situation here... If this isn't a veto situation, what is?
-
FWIW, Southside doesn't respond to me either. I am curious about it myself too. But if Southside likes Marisnick that much, maybe he knows something we all don't?
-
Yeah, not much we can do. I'm just interested in his motive. There are hardly any trades that make me question anyone, but the 2nd least active team gifting a 40 HR OF to the 2nd place team (who has a message about doing anything to beat me), is cause for an inquiry. Oh well, it really only hurts me. I'll survive
-
Yeah, I've had a trade proposed to Southside for awhile now. What frustrates me is I've offered better players who are equally as cheap for his higher priced players and been rejected every time, then he goes and does this?
-
Not sure Southside is going to respond, only seems to check into to approve trades with Thunder.
