Anyone know the status of Box's Bergers? Might be a good idea to find someone before it's too late to make allocations. But I know some people prefer to wait until the end to make allocations, so just wondering if anyone knows the deal.

Being the first person to sell is a pretty routine and basic Ottoneu strategy. I fell out of the race pretty early, and decided to start flipping people. I ended up with a lot of flexibility, took on a lot of injured players that were either cuts or I traded for them, and now I feel like my team is much better heading into next year. And they weren't prospects. I had a barren OF and now I have Bautista, Pollock, Brantley, Mazara, Valencia, etc. Selling early doesn't mean someone has given up.
-
Not saying that we don't have a good thing going but why not look to add improvements? As commish I'm always looking at ways to improve the parity throughout the league. Also giving more incentive for teams to keep high quality major league talent is important. For ex: A team with Chris Sale is in a better spot to compete than trading him in May for 3 prospects. Sure you might hit a good prospect that helps 3 years from then but you will have a better chance of competing WITH Sale.

Yeah, any system that doesn't promote parity but instead gives the top teams what they want is kinda dumb to me. Ottoneu is hard. Even if every single person in this league spent 24 hours a day on their teams, there would still be people finishing in 11th and 12th place. We have a good thing going. Everyone is active, even if not competitive.
-
How about a shiny new nickel for every boy who hits their limits?
-
Maybe a system where you can still get some are dollars for leading inappropriate scoring category? That way even if you're completely out of it you can still try for a scoring category year round to set yourself up for next year.
-
How about playoffs for the top 4 teams?

Thinking about trying to come up with a system to incentivize all teams to compete for higher places. As of now a winner take all only captures a few teams a year. Thinking of ideas that affect arbitration $'s where the higher you finish you can earn more and take less. Possibly a bell curve with that where top team can take $33 second place a little less and so on. Still tinkering with ideas but ideally would love to have incentive for everyone to place higher. Keep coming up with ideas. Thanks

I am very against a franchise tag where you shield a player from arbitration. The very goal of arbitration is to correct undervalued players' salaries. Voting off players is also a non-starter. The goal of any system shouldn't be to keep the best teams at the top; the goal should be to propel the middle of the road teams towards the top. Want teams to compete? Don't do stupid things such as giving the top teams a larger salary cap! What a poor idea.
-
And I'm interested in the franchise tag thing. Are there limits on a number of times you can franchise a certain player? My first year in this league, I ended up with a $1 Josh Donaldson. If I could franchise him every year, I'd have one of the best hitters in baseball for like $9. But if you could only franchise a certain person once, I think it makes it really interesting.
-
I thinkk I finished with right around 1400 IP, but not for a lack of trying. I just had a bunch of pitchers get hurt. I had a lot of players get hurt in general. I finished 11th in the league, but I was setting rosters everyday and making an effort to keep things fair. I think as long as the bars are set relatively low for the IP and GP thing, it's great. But with how active this league is (the last place finisher being the most active), let's make sure we're targeting the right people.
-
What about extra $$ for each category won, and a bigger $$ pot for winning the whole thing? That way if someone has a great pitching staff, for instance, but a lousy offense, they're incentivized to win a few categories and pick up the extra $5 or $10 (or whatever it is)?

Again open to options, always trying to find a way where everyone competes to the end. Trying to avoid the early sell from teams because it makes for a few teams competing on a year to year basis. Don't hate the franchise tag thing. I was just trying to come up with ways to have people stay involved trying to achieve "MLB" pts as opposed to selling out in May. On limits it certainly wouldn't be 805 games being punished but 4 teams either didn't reach 1400 inn or barely did.

I agree with Coastal, but I think a franchise tag is a great idea. If someone digs up a stud out of nowhere, s/he should be able to keep that stud for cheap for a while.

In another league, we're using an arb dollars system to help combat loans
-
To Coastal's point, I think we could limit the amount of loans you can include in a deal before June or July1st. Force teams to compete for a few months before selling the farm.

The franchise tag is basically you get to name a player that is exempt from arbitration. So if you have a $1 stud. He becomes $3 after inflation and that's all he can increase during the offseason.

I think it's worth trying anything to get teams to stop selling off 45-60 games in to the season. I like the 5milb and arb coupons. We could test for a season and reevaluate at least.
