I'd be more upset about your decision to bench EE.

Wanna rage cut Scherzer

So I'm gonna cut the players that have been claimed off of Commerce City's roster. There won't be any cap penalties associated with them and the penalty for Ottavino will be removed. I think thiso will effect Hakuna Moncada, DL All Stars and the mugwumps. These teams will still be able to bid on these players at auction though. That alright with everyone?

Albert Pujols Butthole's trade block has been updated!
-
That was my bad. I'll talk to thunder gun and get it sorted out tomorrow.
-
Okay, it looks like we have a little bit of cleaning up to do then.
-
The Commerce Comets's trade block has been updated!
-
The auctions are real, the waiver claims need to be dismissed.
-
Ahh, would we be able to use commish powers to purge these fake auctions then?
-
It happens when they are free cuts from claiming a team. They were claimed initially, and those claims were never ejected from the system.
-
Why are there multiple players that were just claimed but are still showing up as on auction?
-
Also I'd like to point out that Machado hasn't done a damn thing this year and that Amir Garret is on the cusp of greatness.
-
My two cents as a new owner.
I had two goals for my first year. Learn the game and hit all of my innings limits or come as close as I could.
I'm ok with any changes. One stupid but fun thing I've done in another league is that the last place team gets its name picked by the other owners for thr next year.

Welcome.
-
Hi all. Just joined taking over Brach Breakers. Looking forward to the league. I will be assessing the team and updating the trade block later as it looks to be a rebuild plan.
-
Fair point.
-
I don't like that idea because that's exactly what the regular arbitration is for.
-
I like the way that looks. One suggestion: Split the coupons into two categories. Half you get deduct, half you get to drop on other teams with a limit of $2 per team of allocation. That could move more players into the auction pool, increasing your chances of moving up the following season and decreasing inflation.
-
The commish in that league, a friend, said go ahead and share the Doc so y'all can take a peek at it. Again, it's not perfect but it's a start and the owners seem to have bought in https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1la-vq_bawyYhgeu92L8zOWOIovvPzzyb2wD1hzZq0dU/htmlview

Getting to dish out/take off a $1 dollar to someone/your own team for every position you max out in games and $5 for pitching innings could be a way to still reward managers with bad teams. To hit those maxes, you'd have to continue to search the waiver wire for players or make small trades to have enough players (also discourages having too many prospects, which usually doesn't pay off).
-
I definitely think the baseline is necessary. It's tough to deal with the bottom of the standings when there are people who are legitimately trying mixed in with people who start the fire sale in May. And at the same time, being the first to sell is a pretty common strategy and may actually be what's best for a certain team.
-
You bring up a very valid issue- this is something we're trying to tweak in my other league. I've been trying to push the league to a more bell curve shape so the teams that are likely 2-6 get a bigger coupon than the first place. I do, however, think a baseline total is necessary so owners put forth teams that are at least competitive today.
-
So last season, I finished with just above 15000 points, and not because I tried to sell early and not for a lack of effort. It sounds like it may penalize the owners at the bottom of the standings who need to create roster turnover on other teams more than anybody, while continuously rewarding those at the top of the standings. Maybe gain arb coupons by score per month?
-
Raw point totals- this is better because you're essentially only competing with yourself
-
For that $0 to $24, is that tied to placement in the standings or raw point totals?
-
Yes, we would need both. For reference, a team scoring less than 15000 points in a season gets $0. 1500 gets you $10, 16000 gets you $15, then it works up in smaller increments from there. $50-74 incoming loans gets a 50% tax, $75-99 gets 75%, and $100+ gets 100%. No owner has yet to trigger the loan tax, which I interpret as the tax doing its job of reeling in rampant salaries.
-
A think a two-fold system that delays the ability to send loans and an arbitration coupon system could be the fix. Ultimately, a loan cap system would decrease inflation, and make it a sellers market in July/August, giving guys a better chance to rebuild.
-
True. I guess I'm fearful that, because of how differently we all seem to value different things, people may not really care much about losing a few arb dollars. Not to say that they should or shouldn't, but I just don't know how effective it would be in practice here. If it works well in your other league, then it sounds like a pretty good idea to me. So in that case, it'd have to be BOTH arb coupons and loan taxes? Coupons to have lower teams compete and taxes to keep higher teams from buying?
-
DL, the arb coupons have prevented super early sellers because owners know that their coupons will decrease if they don't score enough points.
-
I don't know if the loan tax thing really prevents people from selling early though, does it? It might slightly hinder teams at the top from absolutely splurging, but that wouldn't stop teams further down the standings from selling in May.
-
I like the idea of putting a tax on loans at the end of the season. You could do something like for every $10 you go over $400, you lose a dollar you can allocate at the end of the season.
-
I like both of those ideas.
-
I'm a proponent of increasing the loan cap as the season progresses. Suggestion:
$400 until Opening Day.
$425 until May 1.
$450 until July 1.
Unlimited afterward.
Decreases inflation during the auction because cap room is more valuable and forces everyone to compete longer into the season. You can still make deals for rentals, but it's harder and you'll have to give up more salary in return (or take smaller loans).
-
Our settings have it so that owners would have between $0 and $24 to allocate to reducing salaries before the real arbitration begins. It has completely taken out teams rolling with $600 in salary like I've seen in other leagues.
-
In another Otto league I'm in, we use an arb coupons format that incentivizes scoring more points throughout the season. There's also a tax on gross incoming loans that reduces your coupons if you bring in more than $50. It's not perfect, but it's been a step in the right direction for that particular league.
-
Schro, do you have an idea to make that happen?
-
I tried to do that this offseason and nobody could agree on anything. I'd love to find a way to have people compete longer.

Can we just discuss league dynamics and find some way to incentive guys to compete for longer in the season? We have a bunch of great managers, but this league is: Buy by May and if you haven't, you're done for the season. We need to change that.

Coastal, I don't think you did anything wrong here. I'm just constantly left scratching my head by the deals in this league. Sure, everyone values players differently, but there are often outrageous extremes from asking prices to completed deals. It's damn frustrating.
-
So trading away 2 keepers for 2 non-keepers is a bad trade now... gotcha

Except it's not up to all of us to decide whether the other team made a bad deal or not. Its up to the teams that made the deal. If you feel it's collusion and that we are cheating, then kick us out. Otherwise, let us value guys as we see appropriate. That Posey/Encarnacion trade was a pile of crap as was the Kinsler trade. If you are going to play that game, it's not fair to not expect others to as well.
-
Yeah that's my issue. I seen 3 other teams that had offers sent and what was wanted for Strasburg and he takes that deal. There's my frustration I could give a crap less who the deal was traded to.

I mostly get annoyed because there is no rhyme or reason to these deals. Coastal made a bad deal, and then less than a day afterward, he's bailed out for no reason, getting Strasburg back for a comically lower price than I asked.
-
Disappointed to see you go Brach. Best of luck.
