My only complaint is that I didn’t get in on the action. I’m fairly certain Brandon made both deals because he thought they were good for his team, and that’s all that matters to me. The rest of us could have offered something better sooner, but we didn’t.
-
That’s really beside the point. Even if I am underrating Gohara, that’s a red herring. The only question is whether he was a fair trade for a paid for Chapman? It seems to me the answer is no. Would you disagree? I valued him as worth about Belt. Do you disagree?
-
Are you saying Gohara is providing more surplus value currently this season? Or that he is projected to next year? Or future seasons combined?
-
His FIP is skewed by an outlier season and has consistently been on the rise. His most recent year (or the most important data point of any of the years), his FIP was 4.6. He’ll also be 30 and coming off a major surgery. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just asking where you get a figure of $12? If it’s just your hunch, that’s fine.
-
Pineda still projects well and did last year (Career FIP of 3.6 mind you) , after he returns for a few months this year, having moved to a friendlier stadium in Minnesota- I'd be glad to bet $ that he is worht ~$12 going into next season. His cost is low since he is a stash player for this year. I think you underestimate Gohara, he would be tied for first for surplus value with 1 player on your team, with the rest of your players projecting less surplus than him.
-
Yeah to me it comes down to surplus value, when you are losing you want to maximize your value returned on minimal investment, this allows you to get more out of each $ than you would with a overpriced rental like Chapman. He will be available next year and probably for less money than eh cost this year, or at least he should be. I lose big on surplus value, win on this year's value, and lose big on next year's value.
-
Yeah, but that's beside the point. I'm sure those 4 players are better for him than Chapman+Belt+Renfroe next year and beyond. The point is that Andrew had to give up so little to get Chapman. Chapman+Belt could have brought back so much more. There are free agents that are probably more valuable to him for next year than Chapman & Belt, but it does not follow that Chapman / Belt should be dropped for those players.
-
I can see where on paper the Chapman trade looks off, but if you break it down to me it isn't terrible. But I also realize my opinion isn't the only one. So I can see your side as well.

I don't mind the Kershaw trade as much. I like each of those three pitchers. I still think Kershaw would have brought back a lot more, and giving him up so early for that cheap to the leader is rough. But I'm probably not competing this season anyway, so it doesn't bug me as bad. The chapman trade is just more perplexing to me.
-
lets face it, he probably is playing for next year. It may end up being a bad set of trades, and he may have been able to pull more if he waited. But I can see where this helps in the long run.

Sure. Chapman is just worth more than that. I see Belt for Gohara as a fair deal.
-
If you look at the numbers Dingers is behind in IP. Lets say Kershaw goes down for the year. At his price it would be a waste b/c A. he would likely not get nearly the production from his SP to make that up and B. likely fall way behind in IP with the only hope of hitting on a free agent. By doing what he did, he traded 4 players to get 4 MLB ready starting pitchers back, and some the outside looks like he is trying not to give up entirely on this year.

I basically see that trade as being Chapman for Gohara anyways. Belt could bang his head again and be done for good. The meat of that trade to me is Chapman for Gohara with a bunch of things sprinkled in. But I guess you could make a case for Belt if he ends up playing most of the year, but he isn't young either.

And Renfroe just means you get 4 extra dollars
-
Gohara and Feliz are fine pieces, but a season of Chapman (salary paid!) alone is worth that or more. Even by your own financial estimations.
-
Not sure where you are getting $10-12 evaluations for Pineda or Smyly. Neither have been 5 pts/IP since 2014, and both are on the wrong side of 28. Both are averaged under $4 in Fangraphs currently.
-
Oh yeah Renfroe is worth $0 and costs $8
-
Gohara (Despite being 21 yrs old projected $15 (costs $6), and Pineda will likely be worth $10-12 going into next year (while costing $3), Smyly same to a lesser degree, and Feliz is $5 player at $1.
-
I think you can question the timeliness of the sell, as potentially too early, but it should make his team better next year, while I get a 1 year rental for both of my players. Steamer values Aroldis at $20 (Will cost at least $30 next year), Belt at $17 (will cost at least 20$)- so I will almost certainly cut both.
-
I agree with Ike
-
If the league would like me to defend the two pending trades I will. Commish, just let me know.
-
I think they both are lopsided.
-
It boils down to someone has to take these braves players now that shrews is gone.

At least you aren’t drafting from your cell phone at a Thai restaurant.

I barely know if baseball even exists anymore. You guys are going to destroy me in this draft. Haven't looked at one projection

Sounds great to me. I should make it! It will be midnight, and my bed time is around 10pm these days, so I'd like to preemptively ask for a refund if I nominate Mark Buehrle for $10.
-
I believe we are going to set the auction date for the 9th at 7 est. Seems like that is the only date that will work so lets go with it.
