Flying Squirrels's trade block has been updated!
-
AJ Reed spring training - .333, 4 HR, 10RBI, 1.178 OPS. Yulieski Gurriel should not get comfortable with his starting job.
-
I really like Happ. He is welcome to return to the Thoroughbreds for his third stint if he is ever on your trade block.
-
Ian Happ .467 avg 1.351 ops in Spring Training so far.
-
Team Name, I adopted the vacant team in league 510. Seems like a quality league. I probably stretched myself too thin with 4 teams now, but this is a fun game. There are 3 vacant teams in one of my leagues - league 548, "Recreate Him In The Aggregate". That is kind of a slow league, but it should be relatively easy to build a competitive team.
-
FYI - If any of you are looking to pick up another team, we've got an abandoned team in 510 which is a SABR scoring league. League name is 108 Stitches and the former owner was the same one that used to own SchwarMachine, so it's a pretty fair situation to walk into.
-
agreed ST is way too long, but this World Baseball Classic has been an absolute blast. Barely moved from my couch this weekend

Spring training is too long this year, I'm ready for some real baseball!

I hope you just knocked on wood Flint.

Tommy John Season has been merciful to date.

Spa City Thoroughbreds's trade block has been updated!

Spa City Thoroughbreds's trade block has been updated!
-
Just saying, but I will gladly watch out for trade offers involving Greg Bird!
-
I think Devers will be worth watching at AA. Great bat speed, excellent discipline, contact and emerging power. His swing is almost Greg Birdian in its perfection. Devers had a great 2nd half. He isn't a Thoroughbred yet, but I would like to fix that problem.
-
I really wish they would've kept Shaw, I liked him at Third.
-
What's wrong with Shaw? I thought he was adequate last year which is more than what you can hope for with Sandoval.
-
I'm not on board with Devers yet either Winnetka. The only reason he might be up this year is because Panda might completely flop.
-
Watch out for Spa City, publicly pumping up his prospects again. Watch out for trade offers involving Bird!
-
I don't see what all the hype is all about regarding Devers. He is so young, hasn't played above high A. Has had lower than an .800 ops last two years. Not saying he has no chance at being a star, but it is a bit premature. Also why is Groome so well liked? A high schooler with questionable character that over twenty teams passed him up. He has to earn top prospect rating, just playing on an East Coast team shouldn't be the only quality that makes you one.
-
I'm sure the Red Sox will resign all those players, and that is a ways off yet. Schwar Machine that is pretty cool, I still have not caught a foul ball.
-
I know it's incredibly early, but Greg Bird looks fantastic this spring. He hit a HR about as hard as a ball can be hit against the Orioles on Friday. I hate the Yankees as much as anybody, but they seem like a team to watch this year.
-
Red Sox still have Rafael Devers. I think he gets lost in the discussion of Red Sox prospects. He could be in the majors by September. I just wonder if Dombrowski can resist the urge to trade him.
-
As a red sox fan it has been difficult to see some of the talent leave recently (Moncada, Kopech, Espinoza, Albies, Rizzo... the list goes on) I'm just hoping they will make sure to extend some contracts real soon of the guys like Bogaerts and Betts.
-
Got to see Acuna reach on a hard-hit E5 today. Caught my first foul ball, too! Great break from Magic Kingdom and princesses with my Dad

The sad thing is, the Red Sox were set up for the present and the future. Now Dombrowski has jeopardized the Red Sox future. They still have a great young core in Betts, Benintendi and Boegarts, but they could have had a dominant team for years to come.
-
Otherwise, exactly like the Tigers, and exactly unlike the Cubs, they will be left with a ton of debt and no reason for optimism.
-
I agree. Never been a fan of Dombrowski. His MO seems to be trading all minor leaguers for a handful of veterans, and then sign the most expensive free agents to absurd, long term deals. Anybody could do that. I could step in and handle GM duties if I had that kind of payroll and a front office that let me trade all minor league assets. What Dombrowski does takes no skill. Red Sox need to hope Price is healthy, and they need to win another Series soon before their window closes...
-
Dombrowski stepped in the best possible situation in all of MLB after leaving the Tigers a complete mess. The Red Sox were already a good team with the best farm system in baseball. Now he has completely gutted the Red Sox farm system and signed several players with monster contracts with not much to show for. I'm sure the Red Sox will be a very good team this year with or without Price. But the Red Sox were already set up for that and beyond.
-
Price is going to be 32 in August. Price underperformed his contract significantly last year. It isn't looking good this year so far. It is hard to imagine that Price will be able to live up to his contract in years 5-7 when he will 35-37 years old. I can't stand Dombrowski. He gets way too much love in the MLB media. Look at where the Tigers are now contractually and their way below farm system.
-
Price is on year 2 of a 7 year $217 million contract. His arm needs to hold up or that could be a disaster for Boston. At least in ottoneu every contract is 1 year.
-
I'm not sure about Price being ok. It's not a good sign to have forearm and elbow tightness (soreness) this early in Spring Training even though he doesn't need TJ, yet.
-
Looks like David Price is going to be okay.

Crimson Sox's trade block has been updated!

I don't mean to say MLB should not be able to suspend players for this... I only mean to say it would be inconsistent with the way they treated other players, and without providing notice (e.g. a clause in the new CBA) of a new plan to suspend for DWI offenses, it seems arbitrary to pull this on the Pirates or on Kang when other teams and players were permitted to get DWI arrests and convictions with no MLB punishment. Seems more likely they pull a PR stunt like mandating counseling.
-
It could be difficult for MLB to suspend Kang. There have been so many DWI cases over the years (Helton, Choo, Crisp, Kearns, Olsen, Lowe, Jeffress, Jenks, Workman, Willis, Kennedy, Cabrera...). Kang is not unique, even in fleeing the scene. MLB has no firm policy on this. Suspending Kang seems arbitrary. The Pirates could suspend him. But as a playoff contender why spite your fans by suspending one of your best players when there is no mandate to do so?
-
I wonder if he will still get a MLB suspension.
-
Apparently Jung Ho Kang was sentenced to 8 months in jail, but the sentence was suspended for 2 years and he could avoid jail if he adheres to the terms of his probation. Good news for the Thoroughbreds... Bad news for drivers and pedestrians in Seoul.
-
Tommy John season is in full swing - David Price apparently is having an MRI and is traveling to meet with Dr. James Andrews. Nothing good ever starts with a trip to Dr. Andrews.
-
I always liked Eddie Butler. I hope he re-establishes his value.
-
I can't touch Rockie pitchers. Even the good ones get destroyed. I'm hoping Eddie Butler can revitalize his career in Chicago.

No love for Tyler Anderson? I really like him. Might need to use him mostly in road games, but he pitched well at Coors last year.
-
I watched the Yankees/Phillies yesterday. Judge blasted one off the left centerfield scoreboard after looking really bad striking out, Clint Frazier looks like the real deal, Gleybor Torres looked terrible at SS, but ok at the plate.

I love Puig - one of the most interesting players in the game. I was an idiot to trade for him at $29, but I had to sign him in the draft. My problem was I absolutely had to sign Judge also. I wound up with 13 outfielders on my roster, so I needed to diversify. I'll admit, I had a few drinks before the draft so my judgment was impaired.
-
no objection here

Spa City, you have a strange obsession with Puig! Trade for him, cut him, buy him at auction and trade him again. All in about a month! ;) Easy to understand when Puig could potentially be league MVP or cut before the end of spring training and almost anything in between.
-
Works for me too.
