Congrats Ben on a convincing win. You made some shrewd midseason trades and kept adding to put things away fairly early. Thanks leaguemates for being great, engaged owners. Looking forward to some playoff baseball. I'm updating my block and will endeavor to keep it current. Thanks for the year, gentlemen!

If you need catching, don't waste your time on Suzuki or Chirinos, you need Tucker Barnhart

Ouch! I wouldn't go so far myself but, good one.

Hay! Somebody cut a good player so I can use all this excess cash.
-
Since nobody is offering anything for Kershaw, I'm switching gears. If you're selling, I'm buying. Hunting upgrades at 1B, OF, and SP.
-
pretty remarkable that nine people are bidding on Luzardo - in the middle of August!
-
Looks like my run isn't going to materialize. I'm willing to trade my "stars" for young/cheap players.

Finally got around to my donation. Please remind me, who is tracking? I'll forward my confirmation email.

FYI I am going on a weeklong hike in the ADK with almost no cell connectivity. I prob won’t be able to check my team until next Sat. Just didn’t want you to think I bailed.

Oh, the bittersweet ottoneu experience of having a 57 point offensive game at your own pitcher's expense.

Hi. Contenders need pitching. I have it. Premium SP and RP on the block for 2019 value. Other positions too!
-
It took me way too long this morning to figure out why none of my players had a game today.

Interesting. We're talking about the Jordan Hicks thing, yes? If Mike Matheny thinks he's being harsh, that must mean he's habitually flogging the kid with sock filled with soap bars. I'm down with this morality policy, though. My personal choice is no Colby Rasmus, no Trevor Bauer (worked for me before this year), and no guys who make everyone sit through weird anti-porn seminars (so I had to cut Dayton Moore in my fantasy GMs league)

Damn. Just saw the Bud Norris news. What do I do with that? I hate racist jackasses. I'm torn. Ugh.

Reinforcements available: Kershaw, Hill, Osuna, Betances, Machado, Thames, DJLM, and Yelich to name a few.
-
Clayton Kershaw is back in the MLB rotation and on my trade block.
-
I need a 1B. It's literally my lowest-scoring position. I have enough 2B to field an entire IF. Reach out?
-
FYI: I'm going to be without internet or cell reception from June 22 through July 1. I'm not going to bother with a co-owner since my roster is irrelevant. I will however throw a massive fit if any of my players are cut between now and then. I won't nominate any new players, but I will continue to bid up until I leave.
-
Please cut half of Roswell's team. He's clearly flaunting the rules with the intent of rostering a 60 man roster.
-
Roswell is illegal again. We have to lock the league until he fixes it.
-
Undecided on what to do with my team. I’m not really attached my players are this point, so consider everyone on the block.
-
Let me know if you need the link again. Also, I don't think now is the time to start this debate over from scratch. Just know that AT LEAST 8/12 of us think there should be a time limit (i.e. that the built-in restrictions are NOT sufficient).
-
I really don't want to have to be stepping in and cutting people on other teams, but until we officially adopt some other solution, I have to keep doing it for anyone who isn't legal within 48 hours of becoming illegal. PLEASE JUST GET LEGAL. So far 10/12 of us have taken the survey, and 80% are in favor of having an official time limit for teams to get legal, and 60% think it should be a 48-hour time limit. Can the two who haven't taken the survey please take it now?
-
ROSWELL YOUR TEAM IS ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Haliax is on the job.
-
With all that being said has anyone checked in on Halifax ? He has been illegal since the 8th and has not checked his team since the 6th. If we have a rule that has already been enforced then it needs to be enforced equally. Pain in the ass for the Commissioner for sure.
-
Whatever happens, I'm cool with whatever the league decides. It's pretty unlikely to negative affect me anyway.
-
2) I also dislike over-legislating things, which this feels like to me.
As it stands with the current league rule the commish is going to cut the ostensible least valuable player on the offending players roster and make the team legal. That is to me actually a smaller punishment than locking the team. In the most recent case the team lost a guy who will likely sit on waivers and then in the FA pool for the rest of the year. I don't see how that's worse for the offending player than locking him
-
As for my take on the rehashed argument - I look at it two ways:
1) I don't see why anyone would waste their time playing Ottoneu - a fantasy baseball game created to satisfy the demands of highly competitive owners - if they were just going to not play for half the year by loading up a roster full of worthless players and sitting on them. Players that think they have the time then don't play generally get booted and banned, as they should...
-
I missed all this fun from a week ago. Sorry guys, I was on vacation and wasn't receiving email notifications for some reason. Additional apology - while I was reading Hoskins' injury report I apparently hit 'add to trade block' unintentionally. I couldn't figure out until now why I was getting a bunch of messages and proposals for him...now I figured it out. I'm a moron. FWIW - I still kept my team legal and modified my roster from my cell phone, much to the chagrin of my wife :)

Excuse me, there is only ONE Haliax, and you are not to say my name.
-
What?
-
I was rereading this, and realized I owe the Halifaxes an apology. I didn’t realize there there two Halifax Explosions. As such, I was conflating the comments and roster choices of both of you, and I’m fairly certain I would have reacted differently had I more carefully checked.

Y'all keep scheming up these worst case scenarios that aren't going to happen and don't resemble the Puig or Melancon scenarios. If somebody bids up 30 players on the last day of the season, we tell them to cut back down to 40 in a timely manner. Like a week. I look into doing that exact tactic every September. It's never a profitable use of resources. We don't need to worry about it.
-
Yes, the calculus changes at the end of the season, but I've seen a bunch of teams auction like the top 8 ranked prospects who are not already rostered for that reason. And they basically end up cutting everyone after the season anyway, because those are just $1 flier level players in the draft.

If it's towards the end of the season, needing to bid is mostly irrelevant, right? Furthermore, between September and the January cut date, a lot could happen in terms of trades, signings, roles, etc. that might make a $3 flier in 2018 a legit weapon in 2019.
-
If you change your mind and someone actually good gets cut, you'll be eating a ton of cap penalties to cut all those guys just to get legal to place a bid.

I don't think anyone's arguing no consequences, but in your hypothetical, that wouldn't really help your team? The top 30 players on our waiver wire mostly suck and won't be keepers at $3 (or $5 with the yearly markup); then you lose the opportunity to make any more bids or to make any trades with a competitive team for a player who's better than what's on the waiver wire.
