I'm in Nobody's other leagues. He can probably draft whenever I can. Let's get X's input and get this thing set as I have another couple leagues considering a lot of the same dates.

With 10 owners voting, there are no unanimous times, but there are several that have 9 votes. Need votes from Nobody and X.

Assuming that 3 owners have yet to take the second doodle poll, it's looking like the unanimous dates thus far are this Sunday night (!!), or the evenings of 2/18, 2/24, 3/9, or 3/11.

The doodle poll has been modified with 2 times each day (times were chosen arbitrarily) to get and idea if you prefer a morning or an afternoon / evening draft. Once we can agree on a date we can then zero in on the time. Thanks BLD for your insight.

I pushed out the draft date to March to allow for us to agree on a date and time and also to find a new owner. The system required me to enter a date, it was chosen solely for the purpose of allowing more time. once agreed i will change the date. also i have a new doodle poll up, i couldn't modify the first one and doodle doesn't support AM / PM options so i had to enter times. https://doodle.com/poll/hhxtsnbz63cxi75p

...shrink the doodle into AM/PM ET time slots from now through March (if you're free at 6PM, you're probably free at 7PM, right?). Get a general timeframe of when 12 people are free (also give yourself some time to find another owner). Then once you have a morning or evening that works for 12 people (I know we can do it), you zero in on the exact time. There is no rush, no?
-
Not to be pedantic, but we do have seven weeks before the season starts. I know we have the doodle going, and with the added dates/times it's a lot to fill out. But did everyone give their availability for later in February and March? I know I didn't. If everyone wants to draft this Sunday (one team isn't even owned right now, by the way), I guess there's nothing I can say. But, what I would do (and it's just an unsolicited suggestion)...
-
Um, I'm going to the Grammy's Sunday night, so...
-
So be it, you have spoken. There will be no new rule(s) regarding trades. It was not my intention to cause any animosity, but it appears that I may have. My intention was only to keep a competitive balance for all teams throughout the season. My sincerest apologies to everyone. The Draft will be, by majority vote Sunday, February 10th at 7:00 PM EST

I propose we forget this power play, find a new owner for Urias Heat as quickly as possible, and move on to the draft.
-
BH, you are also incorrect about Niv's view on this topic. He thinks the integrity of the league is maintained by "the league being able to vote to reject trades collectively."
-
And, by the way, you are accusing the owners who made the trade you didn't like of collusion with no proof. I would suggest the fact that there were zero votes to veto the trade suggests that they would have reason to be offended by the accusation.
-
I accused you of nothing. I am simply saying that the commissioner does not have the power to decree new rules. And, I don't think it matters what Niv says. He wrote a series of rules and when we join a league we agree to play by those rules (some leagues have modified rules: No loans, limited loans, 5/10 Milb, franchise tags), but those rules were agreed upon by the league. As I said, if the league agrees to the rules you have proposed, fine. But you can't just say these are the rules.

Just checked. Commissioners can:
Change league settings
Remove/add owners
Mark owners as done with draft
Allow a round of penalty free cuts.
Active trades can be cancelled.
Remove commissioner rights (if multiple commissioners.)
Add player to team
Change player salary
Cut player (with cap penalty)
Remove player (no cap penalty)
Change Cap Penalty Associated with a Player.

So GB, are you suggesting that I will use my duties as Commissioner solely for my benefit as an owner? Are you accusing me of colluding the position of the Commissioner? I will tell you what I am doing, I am upholding the integrity of the league, so that every owner can participate on a level playing field. AND I am a man of integrity and I will defend my integrity. I am not doing anything unfair as you are implying. Go to FanGraphs and inquire Niv Shah about the role of a League Commissioner.

That amazes me Perfectly deGromulent since it was clearly designed to make a run at you (and the title). Frankly, the deal was not good, but not as bad as some I have seen.
-
Agree with Ground Balls. Think we need a league vote if we’re gonna institute a new rule. Im fine with “cap space dealt shouldn’t exceed differences in player salaries” but I also don’t see any inherent problem with dealing capspace as an asset. Lopsided trades happen all the time, with even amounts of capspace on both sides, so I don’t think that rule necessarily remedies that issue. I don’t even remember the controversial trade being referenced.

I am happy to add these rules if a majority of the league agrees on them, but I don't think there is some Divine Right of Commissioners to decree new rules.
-
Specifically, what if the commissioner is in 1 st place and the 2nd place team on 8/31 trades prospects for stars with a big loan. Does the commissioner solely get to decide that this trade is "unfair" and is going to be vetoed? With regard to the second rule, why can't cap space be traded? If I have a $10 player who is worth $15 and you have a $10 player who is worth $10 and $5 of extra cap space, it is perfectly fair to trade my $15 of value (my player) for your $15 (player plus loa
-
I am not sure where in the rules it says that the commissioner can simply decree new rules for the league, and I propose a league vote on the two rules that have been suggested. I don't think either makes sense. First, even if every commissioner in Ottoneu thinks he has a sole veto of any trade, I guarantee that every non-commissioner would disagree. The problem is that the commissioner is an owner in the league. What happens when a trade affects him?
-
I’m in two other leagues, one just established a draft date on Friday and there has been no discussion on a date in the other league. We still have 7 weeks before the start of the season, how is that procrastinating? I’ve been in FanGraphs for 7 years and a draft date has NEVER been set before the cut date. I believe you are being divisive. Now let’s move forward.

As far as the veto procedure is concerned, for some unknown reasons most owners abstain from accepting or declining approval of a trade. So, if a trade garners 4 vetoes and 8 abstentions the trade will pass. Other owners in the league did voice, to me, through messaging, of their displeasure of the trade and I agreed with them. Niv Shah, informed me that one of the most important duties as Commissioner is to “uphold the integrity of the league and to be fair”. I believe I have met both crite

So, as Commissioner I have stated trades of this nature will no longer be allowed. That loans shall not exceed the differences of the salaries of the players included in the trade. This is not an unfair rule, it’s only objective is to maintain the competitive balance of the league for all teams. Everyone has been notified and the rule shall stand as such.

Two, the Commissioner has the right to cancel any trade that could potentially destroy the “Competitive Balance” of the league or that could lead to the demise of the league.
I also contacted other Commissioners of other leagues, in the offseason, and they unanimously agreed that the trade had the “perception” of collusion and they all said the trade would have been cancelled by them in their respective leagues.

Let me make this perfectly clear, l, personally opposed the trade from the inception. I informed both owners that it reeked of collusion and was going to cancel the trade. After much dialog with Urias, I told him I would seek counsel from FanGraphs. FanGraphs explained two issues. One, there was nothing in understanding from the league that stated trades of this nature wouldn’t be allowed.

I believe he left due to the procrastination in setting a draft date or even just discussing a draft date . The discussions, doodle polls etc.. should have transpired last month or even in December. Plus lashing out at myself and Calcified for trying to help spur some action or get the wheels in motion . Chasting those who are trying to help is divisive .
-
I went back and found the trade that I assume led to today's email, and I am wondering why if the trade was so bad there was not a single vote to veto it? There is a procedure in the rules for trades that appear to be collusive, and it sets a (justifiably) high bar for a veto. I don't think that a commissioner can just assign himself the right to veto trades. I assume Urias Heat bailed for this reason and am wondering how other owners feel.
-
I have sent the league an email regarding trades for the 2019 season, please take the time to read it.

Everyone has entered their preferences, February 10th at 7 PM (not March 10th) is the consensus right now. My question is: Do we want to keep the Doodle poll up until the 7th in case someone's schedule changes? Or, do we move forward and hold the Draft on Feb 10th at 7 PM?

There is no one date where everyone can agree on a time. The closest we came is 10 people on March 10th, but two people wouldn't be able to draft if we did it then.

I will respond to him here and now. You are 8% of this leagues ownership, I will not make a decision for a Draft Date on just one owner, but rather on a majority of availability of all of the owners in this league. If this is not satisfactory to you, you have several options you can choose on your own behalf.

Hi Guys, it's definitely appreciated but don't worry too much about times in my situation, I don't mind doing the draft at an odd time for me if it suits the group. Friday nights (U.S time) are totally out for me so the least I can do is be flexible.

I made some changes to the Doodle Poll for the Auction Draft dates and times in an effort to achieve full participation.
The changes are as follows; I added start time choices for Fridays: 3, 4 and 5 PM; and start time choices for Saturdays: 2, 3, 4 and 5 PM.
For those of you that already entered their preferences, could you please revisit the poll and add any addition choices that fits you schedule.
Thank you to all.

Could we at least include a few options other than 6pm-9pm? We have one manager who is +6 hours and another who is +16 hours from Eastern US time, so maybe there's another time of day that wouldn't require anyone to be up in the middle of the night. For example, a Sat or Sun 3pm start would be 9pm for Try Throwing and 7am for Looking Glaus. Maybe other people are busy on weekend afternoons, but maybe not. It's at least worth a few of these slots on the doodle poll, no?

OK. FYI my time zone is 6 hours later than EST so a 6 pm start is midnight for me. My poll votes indicate that I can do that on a Saturday night (and Friday if necessary), but cannot any other night of the week.
-
Ground Balls, the reason I did not include weekends is because in the past 6 or 7 years of drafting on FG in 3 Leagues the draft was never held before 6PM EST and only once or twice on a weekend. And Looking Glaus has a time difference of 8 hours or something like that. Let the poll run its course and see where we end up.
