Fangraphs banner shows the season starts July 15. Is that official or wishful thinking?

I hated the Mets, as well, but Boston was always number one. And I got so much crap on a daily basis living there, being a Yankees fan, that I was happy they lost. It’s kind of a wonder that Gedman didn’t pummel Dykstra into the ground, unless he didn’t hear it, either. But if Darling could from the dugout, you would’ve thought so.

Know what’s crazy about that whole thing, W? I was at that game 3 in Fenway, sitting behind home plate. No, I didn’t hear what he said to Oil Can, but remember Dykstra led off the game with a home run off him. I went down with a couple buddies and we got tickets shortly before the game. Sat with all the people in mink coats and such. We paid $200 for three tickets, but remember that was 1986. I was rooting for the Mets, because I was still a huge Yankees fan at the time and hated Boston.

Since there's no other baseball news, here's some fun news on the Dykstra/Darling lawsuit: https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/06/01/judge-len-dykstras-reputation-is-so-bad-its-legally-impossible-to-libel-him/

Will MLB really blow this and not have a season? Really?

Sorry the message was cut off. Cleveland was supposed to get a player to be named from Minnesota, but because of the strike, that never happened. To settle things, Indians executives took Twins executives out for a nice dinner. If the steak was anywhere near as good as Winfield, it must have been a heck of a meal.
-
Dave Winfield for dinner
The 1994 players' strike wiped out the end of the season and World Series, and it also brought us one of the oddest transactions in MLB history.
The strike began in mid-August, but the season was not canceled until mid-September. Until that happened, teams could still operate as if play would continue, and the Indians -- still holding out hope for a postseason run -- swung a trade for Winfield just before the now defunct waiver trade deadline on Aug. 31. Cleveland was s

Bombo - it’s a good question and one I suspect has been asked in the otttoneu community forum, but I don’t know the answer

Interesting question that I’m sure we won’t know the answer until a determination is made on whether to play this year, but if they don’t play, will salaries go up before a 2021 season?

Posey’s FanGraphs career WAR is essentially the same as Joe Mayer’s career FanGraphs WAR (0.2 higher). Found that to be interesting.

Well done by all in the draft. Now, we wait. But in the meantime, we trade and tinker with our rosters. But mostly wait for trade offers from Lux.

Guvna JB declared Act of God for Illinois schools so next two weeks don't need to be made up and I don't have to learn how to do teletherapy by tomorrow so I'm in for draft. Might be a few minutes late but should be in by 7:15 - don't bid on all the players I want before then.

I may or may not be at draft. Since I'm a school psychologist and we are now mandated to go on line for next month starting tomorrow, I have a steep learning curve to figure out tele therapy..... Depending on how things go today, I may try to at least pop in periodically.

Thanks Anand. With Monti switching his vote,
my count is 5 (Bombo, Wu, Group, :) and Maybe this year) for delay and 7 to go ahead as scheduled. Therefore, we’ll go ahead with the draft tomorrow. If anyone thinks I counted wrongly please speak up. Otherwise see you tomorrow.

So this is Tom the new guy (Monti Boys) and I have decided to change my vote from delay the draft to go ahead and proceed with the draft on Monday evening. I am in 3 other leagues and don't want to take a chance to have the rescheduled draft date fall on the same day as one of my other leagues draft date. Good luck everyone

Chased him this morning along with the others. He said he’d weigh in. If he votes delay it’ll be 6-6 and I’ll delay it.

Whassamatter Yu votes to delay draft for a week as there will be less than 5 cases of Coronavirus by then (that's what I heard someone say on tv.....). I don't want to spend a few hours drafting and then we end up having little or no season in the end.

I am in favor of delaying the draft indefinitely until the MLB announces a firm plan for the season
-
I am fine to continue with the draft as scheduled.
-
I am fine with keeping the draft as is. I currently have my league curling semifinals that night and will be late (assuming it’s not canceled). I think we will all be crazy once life returns to normal so happy to get the trading season started.

Actually, it’s 4-3. Monti Boys previously indicated to hold off. Everyone please weigh in if you haven’t already. I have no problem working on rescheduling one in the future, if it comes to that. Again, this is only a proposal I’m extending to the league.

Bombo - As I said in my earlier note, if a majority of owners want to postpone this, that's fine. Lux, Calvin, Kingery and I want to go ahead with the draft as scheduled. You and Group w Bench want to postpone. So it's 4-2 so far and six other owners have not weighed in. I will say that if we postpone, someone else can spend time surveying for an alternative date.

Sounds like we’re pretty evenly split at this point. It would be great to get input from everyone first, but if we’re still split after that, should we take a vote? Honestly, I don’t see them starting before May and I think that’s being very, very generous.

I think we just go forward with the auction. It’s really hard to find a date that works, and as Calvin notes, we can add and cut players if something happens whenever spring training resumes.
-
I'm responding to the discussion about the draft - having also talked to Lux and :) I am not inclined to reschedule the draft - it took weeks to find a date, and none of know what's going to happen next. If a majority of owners want to postpone I certainly won't impose it on the group, but that's where I stand at the moment. It certainly doesn't look like things are moving in the right direction as of now.

I agree with Calvin — I was expecting a delay in games but was looking forward to the auction as a diversion and a means for at least dreaming about winning a championship. I’ll go along with the majority but I’m in favor of continuing with the auction on Monday.
-
Counterpoint: If we do draft Monday, people can still add/drop as they see fit until the season starts (if it starts) and we'll be ready to go without having to find another time to get us all together as I know that was hard to find. But maybe I'm just looking for something to take my mind off of what's happening in the world. I obviously understand and support if the group wants to delay -- that is a perfect reasonable decision. We are living in truly unprecedented times.
-
I am also in agreement to delay the draft and hopefully once they come up with a more definite date that the season will start we are able to schedule a day to draft that works for us all
-
I agree that it's a good idea to delay the draft until the picture becomes a bit clearer. Unfortunately, a lot could change between Monday and whenever the season does get going.
-
I see there have already been five cancellations today and wouldn’t be shocked if the Twins are canceled this evening. Official word is supposed to be out this afternoon. According to the Tigers broadcasters it’s going to be a while before things start up again, if they do it all. I propose that we delay our auction on Monday until we have a better idea of if and when things will resume. They’d very likely need another spring training, if they play at all.

Bombo & Group - yes I agree. This isn't intended as a bespoke solution for Kingery. I think it's possible that owners can cut a player as soon as the auction draft is open, but just can't remember whether that's the case. If that were so, none of this would be necessary. Here's hoping for players staying healthy.

Thanks all! Would rather not be having this discussion but thankful nonetheless for everyone’s flexibility.
-
FWIW, I'm fine with the drop and agree with Bombo that the same should be allowed should it happen to another player. Perhaps a league policy allowing pre-auction drops of 'out for the season' guys should be adopted. (Flashbacks to Medlen.)
-
My thought would be that if anyone else runs into the situation prior to the auction, that they have the same opportunity. Hopefully, that won’t be the case

King - I'm okay with that and based on an informal survey with a few other owners they are as well. In fairness, if another owner has an issue with this we can discuss, so I'll wait a day or so.

Any chance I can get league approval to cut Severino and take the cap hit now so I can have his roster spot open for the upcoming auction? If not, no worries but I thought I’d at least ask.

I have a better idea and wouldn’t this be ironic, but have the Ryan Express come back to drill a few of them. I bet he could still throw 90+ Hell, if he could knock down Ricky Henderson in an All-Star game, he would do this

Maybe the Dodgers can sign Don Drysdale for a game when they play Houston. Double D would only have a one pitch outing. And he wouldn't miss.

They deserve every last bit of retribution they get. I honestly would not shed a tear if someone (or multiple people) on the Astros got drilled and it ended his/their career(s). They cheated for multiple years and are only sorry they got caught. All front office, bench coaches and players remain other than GM and Manager - they’ll do it again if they think they can find a way to get away with it.
