-I'd love feedback on what we want to set the original time limit and extension time limit to; my initial thoughts are to set both to 8 hours, so every time there is a new high bid the auction time resets to 8 hours
-We're going to pause the auctions overnight; I believe we have people spanning the coastal timezones, so I'm thinking we pause all auctions at 10pm CT and resume them at 11am CT, but I'm open for feedback

Hi, all. I'm Bob and I am glad to be part of this league. I've played fantasy in many formats over the years, and I am intrigued by the combo of major and minor leagues here. (Did any of you ever play Game Day Ritual? I loved that site. RIP.). This message format does feel a bit retro, so I am happy to move to Discord. I'm thankful for a slow auction and I would be happy to try Couch Manager.

A suggestion: I'm in another leauge with a lot of R&B Discord folks, and they use a separate Discord server for league messages. I'm fine with messages here if folks prefer that, but I did find the Discord server an easier method of communication.

I'm definitely excited about arbitration so my vote goes there. Never used couch manager before, so would need a guide. It's a separate app or site and the league manager integrates the results into our Ottoneu league? Thanks.

Oh, and there was a "sleep" period at night where bid clocks didn't run down, so it's not like you had all these players coming down to final bids in the middle of the night -- though if any of us are on different continents, that could get a little tricky.

The only other thing I'd note about that Couch Managers auction is that at times it could get difficult to choose how to prioritize bidding on different players who were all currently nominated at the same time. Like say you had 3 SS targets, you only wanted 1 of them, and all 3 were up for bidding at once. It was manageable, but it did mean you had to pay closer attention.

Ive used couch mangers for a slow auction and liked it. We had it setup where you could nominate 2 players a time and the auction was for 12 hours. The timer paused between like 11 PM and 8 AM. but it is very customizable and we can set it up anyway we want. This is also my first Ottoneu league so I don't have a strong feeling between Vote-Off or Allocation Arbitration.

I participated in a Couch Managers and it generally went fine, though it crashed one weekend in mid-March, which was annoying but didn't end up disrupting things too much. I wouldn't expect that to happen in mid-July. We had 15 teams and 28-man rosters. Each team was supposed to nominate 3 names at a time with 8hr bidding periods (+6hrs w/new leading bid) to make it go quicker. It lasted a little over a week, and still required you to pay relatively close attention.

This is my first Ottoneu league, but I much prefer the idea of allocation to vote-off. My sense is that allocation is much more nuanced and strategic -- and I do think that good long-term strategy/planning should be rewarded.

Lastly, does anyone have any experience running/participating in a slow auction using Couch Managers or any other drafting platform? It seems that the built-in Ottoneu auction draft only supports "fast auctions", but I could be wrong!
I'd love to get the league settings finalized and kick off the slow auction this week if that works for everyone.

I asked ChatGPT and it claims that the Vote Off system is the default and more popular method, and summarizes them as:
- Vote-Off Arbitration is preferred if your league values competitive balance and roster churn.
- Allocation Arbitration is better if your league wants to reward long-term strategy and allow teams to hold onto stars longer.
If you have strong feelings on either system please respond with your thoughts and we'll go with the majority opinion. Though

Wow, the league filled up fast! Based on initial feedback I've made a few changes to the league rules:
-Updated division names
-Changed trade wait period to 24 hours
-Set "Require Nominations" for the draft; so every team will have to nominate a player each turn/round
This 500 character limit is a bit, limiting, so this is going to be multiple messages, but I could go either way on the Vote Off vs Allocation system for the arbitration...

fyi I'm good with a slow draft, good idea and from what I know I'd prefer the arbitration system as well. Stuffists and Lodems are great division names!

Hey all, just signed up and new to Ottoneu for actual fantasy baseball, been playing pick 6 for over a month after learning of it on the R&B podcast. Been playing fantasy baseball for over a decade, mostly on ESPN but those leagues got really boring as there just isn't a lot of active players and so they got pretty easy to win consistently lol. Started NFBC last year and expanded my number of teams this year which has been fun, but am ready for an Ottoneu dynasty/keeper with cool econo

I think the trade period can be 24 hours instead of 48. I think most people like having the dopamine from trading show up on their roster pretty soon haha

I think the Allocation system instead of the Vote Off system sounds more fun to me for handling the off-season arbitration, but obv that's just me. I haven't spend enough time in ottoneu to experience either, so what do I know!

Welcome, data_diamonds! A lot of us here are new to Ottoneu, so you're in the right place. Unless a majority strongly prefer to do a fast auction, the plan is to do a slow auction, so you shouldn't miss out on anything. The draft start date/time is also just a placeholder. Once the league fills we can kick off the slow auction. Hi everyone! Ive wanted to do Ottoneu for a while and had to take the opportunity when I heard it on rates and barrels this week. How exactly does the draft for this work? I do have to work an hour after the draft starts but want to be active for it.

The league is getting close to being filled, which is exciting! In terms of the draft, I think a slow auction will work best. I've never run a slow auction, but from my research it seems like Couch Managers is the general recommendation. Does anyone have any strong feelings on an alternative? Also let me know if anyone has any feedback on any of the finer league settings, like requiring draft nominations, the arb system, 24 vs 48 hour trade window, etc. Lastly, anyone have division name recs?
