If you end up cutting Otto, does that mean he lost the Franco-Prussian War to Wander?
-
you do have to dig back into 1870's european history to get it
-
you’re far too kind, Rusty. i was cracking myself up with how terrible it is.
-
dave is the e.e. cummings of fantasy baseball. nice new team name.
-
Jesus Sanchez was part of the return in one of the first big deals I made in this league, back in 2018. Since then he's been traded four more times and dropped on three other occasions. He's still only 24 and he's a stud. I guess my point is prospecting is hard.
-
I think I dropped the ball on my donation so made one for $50 today. Looks like a great cause Matt. Definitely in again for this year.
-
Matt (WAR of 1812) picked the Minneapolis crisis nursery last year—a very worthy cause.
-
I’m in. Bob—we have a tradition where the winner picks a charity and anyone who wants can donate $20 to celebrate their championship. It’s purely voluntary.
-
Given my squad’s start, I probably shouldn’t raise this, but are we doing the charity bet again this year?
-
I think I should have claimed the other guy. No do overs.
-
That's funny because I just confused my recently players added with MLB's COVID IL. Oh wait they're the same
-
Just confused the current bids list with my watchlist. "Man, someone just posted all the players I like at the same time!" :D
-
Kershaw might be the steal of the draft at $21.
-
Dunno about the game score, but Clayton Kershaw's seven perfect innings with 13K were worth a cool 77.8 points today.
-
Just want to point out that The WAR of 18.12 is in dead last at this moment. I think he's giving us all a head start on this season in the effort to dethrone him.
-
just a reminder to everyone that the arrow icon next to a pitcher means they are the ‘follower’ and you need to put them in an RP slot to get points for them. the check mark means they’re starting.
-
Haha, love it, Thanx Richard
-
Looks like I didn't go yet. Welcome Bob, I'm Richard, I live just outside of Boston. Yet another Red Sox fan, but am not so secretly in the tank for the Mariners to win one. I am 38 and cannot even relate to kids Zach's age anymore.
-
TL;DR version: I'm Josh - grew up in Rhode Island and Virginia, now live in Philly. I joined BB in 2019 (?) taking over an abandoned team. Also a life-long Red Sox fan, but I love the Phanatic and dollar dog nights at Citizens Bank. Looking forward to another great season!
-
True story: The New York Giants almost moved to Minnesota. Minneapolis was their Triple-A team in the 1950s. Willie Mays did play there for a few weeks, hitting .477 in 35 games. https://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/17/sports/baseball/the-giants-almost-headed-not-quite-so-far-west.html
-
That is correct, born in '49, we moved from California in '52, Giants came west in '58
-
Mays is the best I've ever seen, yep!!!
-
Nice to meet you, Bob! it seems to me that Oregon basically rules. I think Mays might very well be the best of all time, given that Ruth was playing in the segregated era.
-
Bob, that's some rich history. So the Giants moved to town when you were 9. That must have been awesome. Welcome, again, to BB.
-
Nice, good to meet you Matt
-
I'm Matt--born in Chicago, grew up in Upstate NY, lived in Boston and DC for a while, now in the Twin Cities. So my favorite team has alwyas been...the Astros. Mark (Muskies) brought me into the league before the 2019 season. Welcome!
-
Thanx Mark, good to meet you and good to be here
-
Sorry for the delay—I’m on vacation with bad Internet access. I’m Mark, based in DC, life-long Red Sox fan—I took over an abandoned team in the league mid-2016. I’ve known Franimal and 18.12 since college, used to work with Philly, and currently work with Camargo and Vlad Moon. Welcome to the league!!
-
So I guess I will formally introduce myself....I am 72 years young and friends with Chuck and Rich from a couple of other leagues (I'm in 4 total) I've been commissioner in 1 of the leagues for 22 years and playing Fantasy baseball for 32 years. Raised in the Bay Area, growing up with Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal, Clark, Bonds, Posey, and on and on. Diehard Giants fan for over 60 years. All 3 of our daughters live in Oregon so when I retired, my wife and joined them. Glad to have joined BB.
-
Hey Zach, Julio huh, that kid looks like a good one, nice to meet you
-
I'm Zach, and I think I'm the baby of the league at a spry 35. Joined in February 2020, so everything that's happened since then could perhaps be traced to that event. As Dave (camargo) said, I work with him and Mark (Muskies), and, as of a few weeks ago, I have a second job as a staff writer at Lookout Landing. Favorite all-time players are Jamie Moyer, Ichrio, and the Rangers edition of Beltre. Favorite current player is Julio, even before he's taken an AB.

Too funny, where are all these Twins fans coming from, Thanx Corwin
-
I'm Corwin, 60, joined in 2018 and still yearning for an upper division finish! I'm a Twins homer (massively). Harmon Killebrew is my all-time fav (still remember the knot hole games as a kid at the ol' Met and Harmon's towering shots). A close second would be Blyleven. Know Framber and Croney from an earlier league. Dave still believes in some mythical blowing fans in the 1987 ALCS. Great league, really competitive and I'm not good -- hell, I'm in last already!
-
Good stuff Neil, nice to meet you
-
Neil, age 58 season. Twins fan since 10-year-old me saw Bert Blyleven pitch a 1-hitter at my first MLB game. Joined this league in 2018, won it in 2019 and have been exposing that season as a towering fluke ever since. Worked with Harm many, many years ago, and also for realsy know Framber. Spent the past two hours debating changing my team name to Knights Who Say NiMart.
-
One of my best friends is a Tigers fan, good to meet you Dave
-
Good to meet you Russ
-
I’m Dave—a charter member along w Acuna and league commish. i’m 50 and live in suburban DC. i work w Zach (Vlad), and Mark (Muskies), and went to a Os game w WAR a few yrs ago. I’m also a Tigers fan and still daydream abt the magical run in ‘84.
-
How about tl;dr summaries? Russ, 61 yrs, joined this lg in 2017, Santa Fe NM, grew up in Montana. Loved Pirates initially thru Barry Bonds years, switched to Mariners when I lived in Seattle. Fav player is King Felix who is Framber Valdes' fav player. Know HKB & Croney from an earlier league.
-
Yes, happy opening day! should we do intros for Bob, or did we already do that?
-
Oh, and happy Opening Day!
-
Putting it down here... $1 Nick Martinez might be the steal of the post-draft period. Cronestradamus used his advanced knowledge of the Twins and Padres to foresee SD trading for Manaea, bumping NiMart from the rotation and scaring off potential bidders, and then foresaw the Paddack trade to MN bumping NiMart back into the rotation. Crafty!
-
if anyone thinks their roster is short on injured pitchers, feel free to reach out.
-
Chuck helpfully reminded me that auction ties during the preseason are settled by virtual coin flip.

Framber is right--I had it wrong, based on what we voted on, exactly $50 net is okay.
-
sorry to beat this to death, but i want to make sure we are all on the same page. is the cap being $50 mean that exactly $50 net is ok or not ok? it seems like there is some disagreement.
-
Sixto Sanchez: seven career MLB starts, six trades in this Ottoneu league.
-
gotcha. i didn’t realize that it was net not gross, so that was a helpful clarification.

Base 7 or bust!
-
The cap is 50, not 49. We're a base10 system folks where we like to round things to the nearest 10. Plus, that's the limit we voted on.
