Arise - I hope everyone votes and I'm interested in rule changes for next year. My objective is to win. I'll play the game as designed to do that. I'd expect others to do the same. Btw, Tyler Glasnow is far from a prospect lol.
-
Again, Roosters and anyone else who thinks this is a good trade, take out Rizzo and the $50. Make it three elite RP, one overpriced and 2 underpriced, and a $1 OF getting 5.5 P/G, for four prospects. That's an equitable trade, yes? Then tossing Rizzo and $50 on top tips it from equitable to inequitable. It's ludicrous that the only time the salary cap really matters in this league is on auction day.
-
Don't want to discourage trades. Do want to discourage bad trades. We all had a shot to go one more dollar on Rizzo at the auction less than 2 months ago, including Charros who is receiving him. And Rizzo has not proven himself worth $44, though he has been very good. Charros, if you would not bid $45 for Rizzo in the auction, why give up four prospects for him at $44? The loan, yes?
-
I'm in too many leagues both here and elsewhere and tons of trades go by where i bang my head or think I would have given way better deal. My point isn't about 1 particular trade or the right thing to do when team isn't great. Its just a general point that making trades tougher has drawbacks and I'd personally lean towards encouraging trades.
-
I could have traded KB when he was $15 in 2015 and I was bad. I could have traded Betts that year when he was like $9 and breaking out. I had Kershaw when Kershaw was a value and I thought I had a shot (I didn't, LOL) and I had offers to trade him with a ton of money to a competing team and said no thanks. I remained engaged, look at prospects, looked at the draft and built my team.
-
Roosters, if you took Rizzo and the $50 out this would be a good trade. $1 Heyward and three elite RP for four high-ceiling young guys. That trade can be made and keep a non-competing team involved. I was a HIGHLY uncompetitive team for a few years and bought up Betts, Bryant, Syndergaard, Story, Turner, Tapia, Verdugo, Cron, Nimmo all on the cheap and held them for years to get to where my team is now: competing. I was engaged while finishing in the cellar for 3 years.
-
Just my two cents, and I have no axe, my team is resolutely middling here....one of the good things about the system here is it keeps non competitive teams engaged. If we add a hard cap and make it too low, it will make it that much tougher to make trades and then that much easier to tune out and/or abandon. Everyone with a competitive team always hates a relatively early "selling" trade, but unless its in bad faith, I'd be fine with it wherever my team sat.
-
I too simply hope that everyone casts a vote on the trade. it's disappointing to see trades move through with 1-3 people voting. I've been very guilty of that myself. At minimum I think that we need to have discussion about instituting a hard cap for our league moving forward.
-
There is also conversation on the community forum about limiting loans before June, installing a hard cap of $425, and more. These are things some of us have demanded of Niv in the past to preclude this type of lopsided early-season trade and it’s an issue he has been tone deaf on.
-
There are leagues with loan caps. They’re discussed on the community board. Some folks have leagues that make loans illegal. Some folks have leagues that limit net outgoing loans for a team (ie teams have salary floors to prevent giving away the house.)
-
My hope is the league votes the trade at minimum, and vetoes it at best. If the trade passes with only a handful of league members voting, then we have an apathy problem. Every member in this league should cast an Approve or Veto vote on this so we can at least take the temperature of this type of trade league-wide.
-
I guess there are two options. 1) The league is welcome to veto the trade. 2) In the longer term, change the rules. There are no loan / loan cap leagues. I think that would be interesting.
-
Similarly, $25 is a silly amount of money to pay for a RP three years removed from his peak. It’s a mistake. So this trade takes Dodgeville’s two big roster mistakes, two highly overpriced player but two players who are still valuable to have on a P/G and P/IP basis, and gives them to you without you having to pay the salary cost of them. This is why these leagues need a hard cap at like $425, to ensure give-aways like this don’t happen.
-
I assume player that will be cut = Rizzo. Who at $44 is the 2nd most expensive 1B and a bad auction buy at that level since most guys in his production range cost between $1-13. However, one can’t strike a deal for that production for a player who costs $1-13 because they’re good values, so one then trades for a mistake, and gets the other owner to cover the cost of that mistake. You get the value without ponying up the price. For 3/4 of a season.
-
I'm just saying a loan of 12.5% of total budget dramatically changes the landscape of the league at any point in time. I wish there were more rules regarding the movement of salary in these leagues.
-
Fair points. I'll defend a bit. On the loan, the lack of auction participation actually hurt me the most with only 4 spots to fill entering the auction. On the trade, obviously I'm bias, but I think that's a good hall for a guy you would cut next year and a bunch of revilers.
-
add my two pennies to make it 4 pennies. There's not a worse way to take our money than to jump to an early lead then find someone who is giving up before Memorial Day to hand you off four very solid players.
-
holy loan.... I personally hate loans over 10% of total salary. As much money that was left on the table after the auction it seems like no one should be sending $50 loans. Just my two pennies.

Four offensive players and a pitcher on the IL this week. Good lord.
-
He's also got 2 stolen bases. Nutty. I'm loving it.
-
Did I say five Christian Walker HR? Sorry, I meant six. Also: did I say 30 in the draft chat? Might have undershot that.

Oh I am well aware, I own him in my two other leagues. Hat tip, Arise!
-
You mean 4, like the # of HRs Christian Walker has? No. Wait. That can't be. Because Christian Walker has 5 homers.
-
4?! Man that is brutal.

If only you got points for aces on the IL....
