It's been a week since I asked my questions. There are two responses from returning teams and one response from the guy who plays in 100 plus leagues. That's eight teams including a commissioner that need to be filled. Explain to me how this is a viable league.

I am in for next season as well and agree with standardizing the stats from regular season to playoffs. It looks like around half of the league didn't participate in arbitration, so it seems like there potentially are quite a few teams that will need new owners. I wonder if the Commish is able to replace the owners that haven't responded that they are returning to the league and also didn't do arbitration?

I’d like to continue, but I do think the scoring needs to be updated to avoid a regular season/playoffs difference we have now. Hopefully that change can be made before the January 31 cut deadline.
-
Is there any interest in continuing the league at all? Under a different format? If we are continuing, which teams need to be filled? Happy New Year, etc.
-
Anyone interested in Scherzer, won't be asking much (but future talent)
-
Haha thanks, I almost missed someone.
-
And the problem has been fixed.
-
Actually, Case Closed, there's a problem with your allocation. You are still in red on the list.
-
Tonight is the allocation deadline for this off-season and there are still 8 teams that haven’t made their choices. Use it or lose it!
-
Yes, arbitration starts tomorrow and ends on November 14th.
-
Thought I saw that arbitration started tomorrow?

Based on other ottoneu leagues I've been in, starting looking for any needed new managers early - at least before January keeper deadlines - usually works well. We'll have the benefit of drafting before the season this year, too, so finding engaged folks shouldn't be too difficult.
-
But I agree the bigger issue is league participation. I'd only be interested in returning if we were able to some more active managers. In a long-term format like this, checking out mid-season really does undermine the integrity of the whole thing.
-
Hey fellas just wanted to post a message that I don't intend to return to the league next year. You may have guessed that based on my inactivity during the 2nd half of the season. This was a first-time experiment and while I may return to Ottoneu in the future, life and my Yahoo leagues just didn't afford me the time and effort that this type of league commands. Appreciate you including me and apologies if my lack of engagement soured peoples' feelings towards the league. GL next year!
-
I don't have a problem with the current auctions, either -- it's a quirk of the setup but them the rules. As for next year, I'd agree with a shift to points from roto -- it really is a weird thing as player valuations are pretty different from one format to the next. So if we want to keep the playoffs, then I'd vote for points all the way through. But if we want to stick with roto, then no playoffs. I'm good either way.
-
I'm in for next year but my recommendation is to either be roto or points scoring. Switching for the playoffs is hard because it requires a different roster construction strategy (Quick's success in both being doubly impressive in my opinion). My vote there would be weekly points lineups until the playoffs and then switch to daily points like this season.
-
I personally don't see much difference in allowing auctions this week vs any other week of the playoffs when only a handful of teams were still playing. Players won this week will still increase by $1-2 in October and be targets for allocations. My thought would be just to enforce valid rosters by end of season. This is the only ottoneu league I've seen end before the end of the MLB season so it's an odd situation and I'm happy to go whichever way others would like on auctions.
-
I would like the league to continue as it is. We have to recruit some new owners as there were clearly some owners who didn't play after a certain point. I am very uncomfortable with the current auctions. I would prefer it if the season was over and no more auctions were started. I have made bids on the current auctions to be sure that some players are not acquired for a dollar, but I would be happier if the auctions were stopped.
-
So, I just wanted to see what people were thinking about the future of the league. Thanks (end)
-
I also am not sure how many existing teams are returning, or how attractive the lower-performing teams would be to new owners as needed. Finally, I am not sure personally about what scoring and weekly/daily format I’d like for next year if I stick with Ottoneu. (con’d)
-
The lack of activity though left the FA market largely non-competitive and in control of the few actively managed teams; resulted in a largely moribund “this year for next year” trade market; and imo accordingly skewed salaries and talent concentration for next year as well. (con’d)
-
Another congrats to Quick on a well deserved championship ring! I wanted to mention, given auctions are ongoing, that I'm uncertain about next year. The league was only about half-active this past season (which was fine by me for a largely passive learning experience). Teams that fell behind earlier for the most part didn't participate, which again is fine by me, no criticism at all. (con'd)
-
Congrats to Quick on the championship and everyone else on the league’s first season! And good luck to anyone fortunate enough to have an MLB team headed to the playoffs.
-
Congrats as well. That's quite a run to win the standings and the playoffs. Hats off to the Quick!
-
Thanks to everyone for an interesting and enjoyable season. This is the first time I've done a slow draft, the first time I played weekly lineups, and the first time I've been in a playoff. I had a good time, and I was lucky. When does next season start?
-
Congrats to the Quick and the DFAed on the title. Ran the table and won the regular season and the playoffs of the inaugural season. Looking forward to next season!

Hey all,
Congrats to the Leafs on a great week and a terrific team, and thanks to the Commish and everyone for a good year and a nice intro to Ottoneu. Good luck to both teams in the finals and take care all.
-
A belated congrats to 7th inning. My disastrous trade of FTJ for Scherzer sure didn't pay off in the playoffs like I was hoping! Good luck to all the remaining teams!
-
Just wanted to double check that the games started cap will be 8 per week for the playoffs? Appreciate the help

It looks like it does indeed shift to daily lineups for the playoffs. I noticed it when I clicked the date range for next week on the lineups page, and then it goes day-by-day. I posted a message in the ON Community, and it was confirmed: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/weekly-to-daily-lineups-in-h2h-playoffs/12082/2
Another playoff change in strategy, but I like it!
-
Cool -- thanks! That changes the strategy a bit. And I wish they gave us the option of shifting from weekly lineups to daily for just the playoffs.
-
Phil - Yeah, that is how the playoffs will work
-
So I kindof forgot that the scoring format changes for the playoffs, if I'm understanding things correctly. We appear to go from 5x5 to FanGraphs points, so I'm guessing that means that whichever team scores the most overall points (as opposed to winning categories) advances. Is that everyone else's understanding as well?
-
So much for my stash and then unleash Tatis Jr. for the playoffs strategy!
-
Thought I had a chance to claw back, but too much of a rough start. Let the trade deadline deals begin!
-
Scherzer isn't gonna help me make the playoffs....but he might help someone win the whole thing....he is now on the block.
-
Oh got ya
-
It's Patriots Day. The Red Sox start early because of the Boston Marathon.
-
Holy cow....how early did games start today haha. Lame!!
-
Thanks so much Quick, I really appreciate it.
-
Yes, but you still have to move them physically out of your lineup if you don’t cut them. The money is right, if you cut Means, you will have $11.
-
OK, thanks! So Ottoneu auto-moves 60-day IL guys (and COVID guys, got it) to off the 40-man, I see. Thanks. And nothing gets added to my pool of FA $. Makes sense. So, if I cut him -- right now I am at $393 of $400, so I have $7. Would I go to $389 of $400 and have $11? I think that is right Sorry for being dense around this!
-
You already have 2 open slots on your roster. One for John Means being on the 60 day IL and one for Nick Senzel being on the Covid protocol. Senzel could come off the protocol anytime, so be careful with that slot. If you cut John Means you immediately get half his salary added to your cap. You will not get the other half of the salary until someone else rosters him. If he has not been rostered in a month, you can re-auction and cut him again to get back more of his salary.
-
All, sorry for another message from me. I see John Means was placed on the 60-day DL. So I think I can move him to the 60-day on my roster. I assume his salary does not get freed up in that event -- his $8 still counts against the $400 limit. Or I could cut him, and if/when noone signs him, does my cap go down to 396 then (half of $8), and $4 goes into my FA k? So I'd have $396 for 40 roster spots? First time around obviously, not sure I have it right. Tx for any help and no rush obviously.
-
You bet, makes sense Commish! Thanks for the reply and have a good evening.
-
Hey Coop, since I advertised this league as a weekly lineup set up, we will probably keep it as weekly at least for this year. Feel free to bring this up again during the off-season. Daily leagues require a bit more time, and some people may like the weekly lineups for that reason ha.
-
Hello everyone, Happy Easter weekend! I wondered if there was any value in discussing a switch to daily lineups. In my vast, one week experience with Ottoneu (lol), I have found that I would like to be able to adjust to early week injuries and game postponements. It looks to me from a quick search that either the Commish could change the setting or the Ottoneu admin could upon request. If not, no worries at all. Thanks!
-
Awesome, thanks Quick!

All times that you see are dependent on the time zone in your profile. My profile says that I’m in GMT - 5:00 so the times that I see are CDT. If your profile says you are in New York, then you will see times in EDT. In Los Angeles, you will see times in PDT. Etc.
