Ok, I'm about to do the same thing, but Butto is now on the IL. I don't understand the Schlittler auction.

What's the deal with winning an auction, then immediately dropping the player? And I don't mean salary reduction cuts.

Sorry Skip, kind of had my hands full the past the few weeks. Let's look at my offer, you dropped Flaherty, Marte has been hurt over 2 months, Framber Valdez and Munoz for Cease, Kershaw, Profar and Meadows. Sounds like you made a great choice rejecting the trade

Redlegs, three weeks later no one has sprung up to support your passionate defense of your semi silly trade offer. So I can only conclude the league thinks it was more or less goofball on your end. And how did the trade offers you threatened to make to top five teams featuring Cease turn out? I wish I could see your declined trades. Dude, your rep when I joined this league was Our Trash Talker. You Are There. Just find something to trash about ... maybe something based in reality.
-
Here was my offer to you: George Springer $8 & Framber Valdez $22
For from Redlegs Dylan Cease $30 & Parker Meadows $2
Loan $2
May 27, 2025
I need not quote your reply, but this is your counter offer.
Redlegs sends: Clayton Kershaw $5 Jurickson Profar SUSPENDED $5
Dylan Cease $30 Parker Meadows $2.
Skip Caray for Cooperstown sends: Jack Flaherty $7
Framber Valdez $22 Andres Munoz $7 Noelvi Marte $4.<
-
In this universe Red, Valdez has performed better than Cease. I am betting on Cease ROS and throwing in talent to compensate for that. If you can find a better offer than mine, well dude, none have been accepted in the past two weeks. Does that speak for itself or what?
-
Hey Skip, Framber Valdez isn't Dylan Cease and George Springer has been dropped by about 5 teams already. I'm not giving you Cease, Meadows and a loan for that return. Get real

I might sit on them for a day or two, especially over weekends, but usually try to respond. I assume if someone hasn't responded after like 3 days they may not be very active and give up trying to deal with them. Happens occasionally.
-
Does this league have some informal understanding on what to do about trades one does not agree to? Is it cool to just ignore the offer until it is withdrawn? Normally guys will give you a yes, a no, a counter, or words along with one of those three explaining what it might take, or that no offer can be acceptable. (I have encountered this only once; this is not a complaint about the whole league.) I just want to know if ignoring offers is standard operating procedure. Help, anyone?

Looking to move Verlander. Not asking for much: he's on the waiver wire. $5 might get him!

Looking to move Alcantara. Open to offers!

You said the league values regular season winner. I stated a fact that Bo's profile calls him 2024 League Winner. Go ahead and deflect though.
You have yet to cite evidence of how Steinbrenner "conned" us "galoots" despite two requests now. We're all waiting.

So the league values the regular season winner over the playoff winner? Who is "the league"? You?

So read it again, Matty. It's in English. A simple, declarative sentence.

That statement is so dumb, I don't even know how to respond.

Clearly Matty, if the standings show a team at the top of them all for the year that is the stat the league values most. I rest my case.
-
He finished first in the standings but didn't win the playoffs, hence not the League Winner. Look at Bo's profile and you'll see it says 2024 League Winner. Look at the 2024 trades and tell me who he took advantage of. Inquiring minds want to know.

This format may be new to you, but either Steinbrenner won it all here in 2024 or I did. I wasn't here. I acquired his team and cut way over $300 of that roster. Go to Standings. Click 2024 and by George, there stands Skip Caray who acquired the bones of Steinbrenner's team. But I didn't play here last year; if I had I'd have raised hell about paying good teams to take your expensive talent. I'm doing that this year. So there!
-
With me being the illegitimate son of Delores Dutchie Goldman, I kind of have to take offense with the ghost of Skip Caray, who has possessed one of our league owners in an attempt to start a campaign to get him into Cooperstown. I was always competitive with Skip and he only got into broadcasting after seeing me run a successful DJ service and using that as a bridge to be a local sports broadcaster for local T-ball games. I demand a name change Skip. I know it you, you aren't slick.

I find it hard to understand how those of you who were here last year don't yet comprehend the damage that paying good teams to take your best players is bad, awful, lethal to a competitive league. You have seen it. Your rank in the standings tasted it. But you don't care if it determines another championship. I am not Steinbrenner, but he conned some of you into paying him to take your best and priciest players. We should try to discourage that. You disagree? Then tell me why.
-
I am becoming tired of explaining Monopoly economics to galoots. People play fantasy sports for the thrill of victory. This league costs $20 and it pays only in terms of that thrill. It is within the rules of Otto to persuade others to pay you to trade them their stars. That's also true in politics, life insurance, and used car sales. Some thrill in any kind of win. Our duty as honest players requires killing awful trades, and don't quit until your fantasy football teams draft. IJTS!
-
Ok, I'm confused. You don't win any money for winning the league. So why would someone "buy a flag"?

I am saying You have no experience with flag buying, unless you say it last year. I have seen it a few years and based upon those outcomes I have observed what too often happens. That may not come about here, but my experience and yours as well if you were here in 2024, tells you and me that it will. Thanks for proving my point.
-
So it sounds like you're saying I shouldn't jump to conclusions? Thanks for proving my point.

Well, Matty, I'm still in it and a co-commissioner. But it's a private league. If not, look up Women & Whiskey in 4x4. Team name is Magic Bus. As for flag buying here, I had to cut a bunch of expensive guys ... Soto, Judge, Fried, Betts and a few others. I either began this season with the lowest pre-draft set of keepers, or at least second lowest. Big Time Cuts Were Made. Now vote to veto this trade before it goes through.
-
Skippy, how do we know you you didn't leave your 10-year league to "flag buy" here? Seems suspicious.

I have played only one Otto league for ten years up until now. I have witnessed the onset of flag buying. I have observed what happened the next year. I, at least, have seen this cycle run its course before. Have you, Matty? And no, the goal is not to be as realistic as possible: that would require permanent large and small market teams. The goal of all fantasy baseball leagues is to build a challenging, fun to play league within a sensible set of rules. The rules ain't quite there yet.
-
Unless you "know" Steinbrenner, I don't think that's fair to assume that's why he moved on. I doubt he's running a fantasy baseball scam to win $100 by getting "loans" on players. You're assuming everyone's worst intentions without knowing the facts.

i guess to me the whole goal of this platform is to be as close to real as possible; so approaching trade deadline, mortgaging the future for some high priced "rentals" makes sense; and the loans make more sense then too - if i'm only getting a guy for 2 months, maybe seller should cover some of that salary. but i also ought to give up some future potential. this trade mimics some of that, but seems to early for selling with the offset. that's my main concern here - too early for big l

In effect, ending a season with $550 of salary means the Next Owner has to cut at least $250 to have any $ to fill the holes for the 4 or 5 priceys lost in those $ cuts. Unpopularity aside, there's a reason ol' Steinbrenner moved on (to repeat the process in another league?) along with several others.
-
It was kind of BS last year that half the teams in the Playoffs had salaries well over $300. The Steinbrenner team had a $550+ salary by the end of the year. If it carried over like an actual loan to the following year, maybe, but even then it would have killed any chance of someone else taking that team over.

Wow, this has really sparked some strong feelings. I’ve been in this league three years and this is a first for me. I’ll say I’m very excited to acquire a superstar young OF in Jackson Merrill at a long term keeper price if the league allows. If not, so be it. Seemed like a win/win trade. It’s just fantasy baseball, though, so, hopefully passions cool as this can be a very fun league.
-
So you guys are upset about the loan rules, but not the actual trade? Last year I traded Bo my studs for a ton of prospects and it worked great for both of us. He won the league and I got to rebuild.

I understand living with Otto's rules and all that. But when leagues get into the mode where guys who really want to win now find trade partners willing to give up superstars for prospects and pay the other guy to take the superstar ... that kills leagues. This one seems on the road to being one of them. Stop this now.
-
Agreed. At least last year that tomfoolery came late. Didn't like it then either but I was buried and no one seemed bothered. Seems fair to address early this season though. And yes the player swap is what it is if not for the salary offset. That alone doesn't offend me.

Principle: shady, especially this time of year as standings dont even fully level out until may-ish and nothing is really out of reach yet

The principle? What might that be? The team I bought won last year and I noticed that guy had a end of season salary of well over $500. That's a horseshit way to win a league. The principle should be fair play and sportsmanship. Conning others into paying you to accept their studs for futures or duds is a failing of Ottoneu, which is otherwise a fine format.
-
A little worried that when I hit the veto button it's commish level veto btw. So haven't voted yet. However it's less the specific trade here that bothers me (though I don't love it) than the principle.
