You are probably right considering this is "fantasy" baseball, but I still don't believe that is a legal transaction no matter where you are at. You have to give up something, and the other party has to give up something of VALUE. Not just, "Hey, I'll take your player's roster spot and salary and you free up some cap space and a roster spot." That's not a trade. If Ottoneu wants to make these legal, then, email Niv to change the system to allow these trades. Otherwise, I

Prospect. The fact that even in your statement you say "player FOR a roster and money" shows that's a trade!
-
and I literally mean they outscored your team... like, wow.
-
yeah, shooting for not last is a good strategy. And those 6 players that I have outscored your entire team last year.
-
All I have left to say is I will veto any stupid trades in which a team trades a player for nothing simply to free up money and a roster spot.

High and Tight, you have $267 tied up in 6 players. That's not my problem.

We'll see where I end up at the end of this season. Since this league sucks (according to some), I'm sure I won't finish last because people stop being active after a while.

lol no not at all... it's really a horrible strategy. you messed it up last year and did it again this year. I'll take your donation to the league though.
-
Yeah, hey everyone, the guy who has $120 in cap space is an expert on how to spend money in Ottoneu, be sure to pay close attention to what he says.
-
lol okay prospecting. I'll put this in a way you can understand.. I own a bike and I owe $20 on it. I'll give it to you for free, but you have to take the debt I owe on the bike. See how that's not really giving it up for free?
-
High and Tight, are we jealous that I have money and you don't? :)

Its not about the $1. Its about the principle of giving up something for nothing. That's not how any legal transaction works.

prospecting, it allows me to clear $5 of space so I can go out and pick up a free agent that I would rather have. I could have cut him yes, but then you all may sit there and not nominate him. So in that situation I would have cleared $2. Why not trade him to a team that I know wants him to get a full $5 of cap space? You are sitting there with $120 worth of money, for some reason, so please don't weigh in on finances.
-
This is legitimately the worst league in all of Ottoneu. It's no wonder it had vacancies in the offseason. You guys are crying, CRYING because the other team didn't offer $1. Then you'd be totally fine with it. Over $1! Lol.
-
Please educate me how the $$$ works in fantasy baseball. The original trade was Jaime Garcia for NOTHING. That's not a transaction.

Ottoneu allows for it. So who am I to disagree.
-
And your analogy. The person taking over the house still has to make payments just like you have to pay that players salary. Just saying. It is not something for nothing.
-
Prospecting, I still don't think you really understand how the $$ works in these leagues.
-
Yeah, and I didn't give the player for free... I got $5 of cap space.
-
Mlb teams give up players for cash consideration all the time
-
I totally disagree with trading players for nothing. Every legal transaction no matter where its at involves 2 parties who agree to give up something in return for something else. Giving up something for FREE because you just want to free up a roster space isn't actually a transaction. That's like saying, I bought a house (insert anything expensive) that I paid too much for. Now, I can't afford it, and I need money. You can have it for FREE because I just need the money. I don't think so.

I agree with being able to trade for cap relief too. I also like rewarding teams for going out and finding trades over the playerror being dropped and everyone having the shot to get them. I see this is moot now. But when it is put up for a vote, I vote to allow it.
-
backdoor, there is a penalty for drafting duds. If it's truly a dud, then you will have to cut and eat the salary bc no one wants them. this isn't that though. this is me needing money so i'm trading a guy who costs $5 for $5 of flexibility. I'd rather have the $5 space and he'd rather have the arm. I'm still not sure where the problem is in all of this. this is what the league is all about; spending/trading the money/players you have to fill needs and gain value.
-
@highandtight - If you know someone else is interested in picking up the whole salary then you certainly know they'll take them for half the price or claim on waivers.

2) on whether these trades should be allowed - i'm more with the commish but i'm willing to be convinced. i think there ought to be penalties for drafting duds, and that ottoneu generally has fair rules in this regard. I'm not making an equality argument here; i think that the rules should benefit folks who have better auctions, which we need to some degree given that in the past 2 years, we have had some teams not even show up.
-
I think there are 2 issues here: 1) i don't think we should make rule changes mid-season; people would have made different decisions if everyone understood these types of trades are allowed; we can have a league vote on these types of trades in the offseason (i say offseason only bc owners end-up dropping out);
-
i don't buy the argument that "everyone should have a shot at the player" Trades are made all of the time, no one posts their offer and says "can someone beat this?". Second, re: relief of the drop. the difference is that you have put a player you don't want on someone else's roster at full price, compared to giving them away at half. there is the minimal advantage of burning someone else's space while also guaranteeing that the player gets picked up.
-
I would also contend that everyone should have a shot at the player. I was very tight in the auction process because I wanted to have extra funds available for times like this. If I had spent 399/400 going into the year, why should that person get a shot at a now $3 Jaime (after the cut)?
-
But you are not guaranteed that someone will pick him up. If they want to trade for the guy, and I'm willing to move him for the salary relief, what's the issue? I'm not sure who is getting the unfair advantage that would cause a rule against this.
-
You'd get the same salary relief when you cut him and someone else puts him up for auction. If you're just going to dump a guy, everyone in the league deserves a chance to bid. If you were trading cap space too it might be a different story.

still no reason why the league doesn't allow this type of trade. only person against is the commish. there have been rotographs articles discussing the value of this type of trade. but anyway.
-
It's not for nothing... I'm getting $5 of salary relief.
-
Guys - this league does not allow trades for nothing. Been discussed before. I will be cancelling this trade.
