Thanks! you gave me a scare at the end, but I avoided the epic choke job I was worried about.

LOL at the rage drop of King Felix. Can relate, just rage dropped Tyler Mahle 2 innings into his last start and threw Tyler Chatwood out along with him after almost rage-dropping him 10 different times.

Fair enough. On one end it's tough to gauge other's perceptions of value and if you need the space now, you need it. On the other end it was striking to me that a player of Brinson's prospect pedigree was being given away to clear 5 bucks of cap space, and we are a league of complete strangers (at least many of us) so trades that seem one sided can raise more flags due to the simple fact we don't know each other. Let's let the veto process work, and discuss any new rule implementations later.

I had no idea that "Droids" was interested in Brinson until he accepted the deal. I had no plans to just release him because I wasn't sure he would be claimed, there really aren't traditionally many waiver claims in this league, and it wasn't worth it to me to get rid of him for $2 in capspace. I never would have done the deal though if I knew it was going to be this type of hornets nest.
-
Scoop, if you have a trading partner lined up, why not just cut him and recoup the cap space that way? It's the same outcome for you (cap space) - and Droids can still claim him off waivers. The only difference is everyone else has that same chance to claim him and nothing looks suspicious.
I agree that we shouldn't be in the business of vetoing trades - but in this situation there is a clear solution imo.

I'm with Scoop on this one. Very much OK with this approach. We can argue that Brinson may have been able to bring back a higher return than just cap space, but in real time having to make quick roster decisions he cannot reasonably be expected to check with every team. And I have been in the league for 5 years and don't know anyone personally, but have dealt with Scoop enough times to know that he has the best interest of this league (and his team) in mind.
-
Ok. Thanks for your input, guys. We'll just leave it up to the league to think it through and decide what you think think is right. The use of the veto is debatable, and this league's dynasty aspect makes values in trades very subjective.

First, there’s absolutely no collusion here....I don’t know scoop outside this league, in fact I don’t even know his name.....it has happened in the past so I didn’t think twice about the trade when it was offered....I actually did have a tiny bit of regret since he’s been struggling so badly, and pretty much hasn’t never hit in the majors...to the point of just cutting him and someone would pick him up, not sure that is guaranteed to happened....I’m ok either way, veto if you must
-
As a new guy, I’ll throw my stance out there: I don’t like to use the veto for anything except provable collusion. I obviously cannot prove it. LFPs had a solid idea although adding that mid-season may not be ideal. Maybe it’s something we consider next offseason.
-
Well, I think the point is that if you have multiple teams interested in Brinson at $5, you can safely drop him and recoup the entire salary for cap space - but in a way that is fair and doesn't arrouse suspicions. Scoop is correct that we've let these trades go in the past, and I think the difference is that it's usually a 1-2 dollar player that nobody really cares about. Perhaps we need a rule that you can't trade for no player in return - the other team can simply claim him off waivers?

The offer was sent out to the two teams with the most cap space. If you guys are that against the trade then put it up to a vote and rescind it. I'm not quite sure why I would cut a player for $2 of cap relief, with the possiblity of more, when I can trade him for full cap relief right away. Thanks for raking me over the coals though guys.
-
I couldnt agree more. Would also like to know how droids was chosen as the lucky recipient.
