sorry to hear that, chiants. The web link is here ==>> https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/1209/setlineups. And from there you can select the Week#1 that you want to set.

I need some help in setting my lineup. Do I use roster roster organizer? I thought I changed it on Sunday by now I realize my roster did not change for the games this week.
-
So I was listening to the guys on the MLB network talk about the Hall ballot and after they discussed the Steroid users, the one guy says " the rest of these guys aren't Hall of Fame, they all belong in the Hall of Very Good, just not Hall of Fame". Was thinking how I'm often the bridesmaid and figured it was appropriate.
-
nope. just lazy to type an extra word

Was that a joke saying my team is no longer "Very Good" and just "good" now! So take My team for example. 1 week ago I had lost Eloy for the year and was staring down Tatis for the same fate. I had no cap space and was in last place. Now Tatis might be back as early as next week, I'm in the middle of the pack, trending upwards. Team seems pretty balanced, besides maybe RP, and I think there is still a decent amount of talent on the Waiver Wire. Whenever it can change so much
-
That sounds about right "hall of good"

I understand all that, especially with the "I know it's early comment" in the first part of my post, was just trying to get the ball rolling on some internal trade discussions is all. If people are all content and happy with their team, that's cool, I'll just sit back and play the waiver game instead. Thanks all.

There might be a few reasons why trades have not happened hear yet. 1) new league, we are learning who other managers are 2) every one is satisfied with their team 3)managers are not engaged 4)I'll wait for offers to come to me. Cant say for certain though. In my other Otteneu league there must have been 20 players change hands by now. Its a relatively new league in its 3rd year. Maybe trades happen more so in the 2nd year. Everyones learning here.

I think 1 thing to remember is that this is a first year league. I would assume that there is a lot less trading in the first year, at least at first. Teams don't know where they are at. I think the Auction has been so lively is because everyone had it in there head to keep money back. As money dries up, you'll see Trades happen more. Brad is right, it is early. The only trades that probably should be being made are of the one position to another or one stat for another style. Just my 2 cents.

you know me so well Brad! lol

Yeah I don't usually have a lot of luck with "cold calls" to people; everyone has different values and sometimes it's hard to know who's even available. I sometimes see trades zip by in other leagues thinking "wow, I'd have trumped that offer" but maybe I don't even have players that other person is looking for? Generally, I have better luck going this route :) In most leagues, when someone wants to trade they reach out because I can usually find a match but I know I'm "

And I know John is looking at your roster right now Jason....
-
Hey Jason. I agree, it's addictive. AND it's only been a week so don't sell the farm yet. I agree with John too, I hope this will be a very active trading league. I'm actually surprised at the amount of auction activity.
-
start making offers man. Thats the best way to find what you are looking for. The worst that will happen is someone turning you down, but it opens dialogue.

Hey ottoneu teams! I think my first time sending a post, so of course it's trade talk :D I know it's early but I'm looking for an established closer and maybe a hitting upgrade somewhere. Willing to move young pitching and will discuss almost anyone (depending on the deal)
-- I can also take on salary. If your interested in discussing anything, feel free to drop me an email to discuss: jasonparsons123@gmail.com
Cheers and good luck all for the rest of the season! This league is add

Wow! I'll take it while it lasts. LOL.

Way to go Andy. #4 on the global leaderboard.
-
When it Rain's it pours. At least I can hope this is all happening in 1 season
-
Missing stats should appear later today
-
FYI guys - stats from yesterday's Boston/Baltimore game are not showing up in the standings (but do in the lineups). Have put in an query.
-
I think I just fell in love with Trevor Bauer. That strut is something else!
-
Last year, it was Juan Soto getting COVID right before opening night. This year, it's the Nationals yet again....Here's hoping these bits of news are few and far between the next few months!

The first game tomorrow is just after 1 EST. Make sure you have your lineups sorted out. Good luck all.
-
With regard to illegal rosters - I think it only applies to being over the cap or having too many players. My guess is you can leave as many roster spots open as you like.
-
I know the whole C thing is confusing. It's considered a one catcher league because the C position is capped at 162 games. You do not have to start 2 Cs. Say you have Sal Perez and he's scheduled to start 120 games. And you have some terrible, light hitting C2 who plays a lot. You would likely want to sit your C2 on occasion so you don't limit Perez's games. Without managing the spots, you could max out your C stats before the end of the season.
-
So I think that's unnecessary. If you play 1 C or 2 your team would still be valid. The league would tell you otherwise. The question is wether or not it counts the C 2 stats. I think it's written poor but will up to 162 games. The game just knows that C play less games and compensates.
-
So I moved one catcher to my bench and my roster did not become illegal -- With permission of the commish I would like to drop a catcher and see if that makes my roster illegal. I would want him back but at least we would see if you need 2 catchers on your roster to be illegal or not.
-
The lineups page and roster organizer for non-head-to-head leagues allows for 2 catchers for platooning purposes; Ottoneu is not a 2-catcher game. I wonder if this means that only the backup on the team your starter is on will be counted, or if it's that intuitive. Maybe it just means like we already thought that you only get 162 games regardless.
-
Rule I.e.i: "In non-head-to-head leagues, a starting lineup consists of one slot at each infield position (catcher, first base, second base, third base, and shortstop), five outfielder slot, one additional middle infielder (second base or shortstop) slot, one additional hitter from any position (utility slot), five starting pitcher slots, and five relief pitcher slots." I read this as only starting 1 catcher at a time.
-
Yes, I would agree with your assumption. It looks like there will need to be some Catcher/bench strategy employed here. When drafting, I didn't even occur to me that it might be better to obtain at least one great platooning catcher. lol.
-
Im assuming that if you play with 2 catchers right off the bat and together they make 162 ab's by July, then your catcher stats will not accumulate from July to end of September.

Ah, ok. Thanks Hall.
-
I know it's not intuitive. But it does state that you can play 2 C with the only provision being 162 total between the spot. You could think of it this way, You have to have at least 1 C in the lineup for your roster to be valid, but you can play 2 if you want to.
-
I am still confused about the issue of Catchers in the Lineups. The Rules clearly state a roster of 22 players. i.e. 10 pitchers and the remaining 12 are hitters. If you completely fill in the Ottoneu lineup page as they show it, with 2 catchers and filling in every spot, you have 13 players. Brad, looking at your lineup as an example, it is theoretically in an INVALID state because you have 13 hitters. If you want to use a 2nd catcher for the week, that should go in the UTIL slot.
-
REMINDER to set your lineups. I believe rosters lock on Thursday, but it's not 100% clear so I would definitely have something roughed in on the weekend just in case.
-
I was planning on keeping $10 in reserve and ended up with $18. Very happy about that now. Tough luck with Eloy.
-
So after the first round of the auction, I asked the same question to 2 separate writers I trust. Should I spend all my money or save some for during the season. They both told me the same thing. Spend it all, because someone is bound to get hurt and you'll be able to cut them and gain your wiggle room then... I don't know if they're psychic, they jinxed me, or they're just that smart but I'll be cursing the all day regardless... I guess this is 1 problem solved! Bright side thinking!
-
And we canβt forget Wander Franco.
-
I actually think I was first. When I drafted Luis Garcia I assumed it was Luis Arraez the whole time. It wasn't until he went up for auction that I knew I made a mistake. It definitely happens.
-
Someone has to be first Andy! I had a similar situation in my CBS league. Trevor Rogers was nominated late. I knew there was pitcher named Trevor I wanted so I grabbed him. By that time my spreadsheet was a mess. Luckily, it was the right one!
-
funny story. With only 15 seconds on the draft clock, you definitely have to act quickly. When I saw Gleyber Torres nominated, I quickly hit the +$1. But, after I did a double-take, I realized that I had actually made a bit on Ronald Torreyes for $2. Haha. Anyway, there you have it, here is the league's first official dropped player. LOL.
-
Draft tonight!
-
Draft #3 CONFIRMED for March 16 7pm.
-
Draft #2 TONIGHT. 7pm. Try and be a few minutes early so we can start on the hour. Reminder - please have 5-10 players in your watchlist for nomination. It's going to be fast - but fun. Looking forward to seeing where we land with some of the player values.
-
Also a reminder to be familiar with the rules. If you have any questions please ask and I'll do my best to answer. This platform and league is neu to everyone so we'll learn together. One thing I will point out - there is a DL list that counts against your $400 cap but not your 40 man roster. This only takes effect in season though.
-
Reminder Draft #2 Wed night at 7. I can't change the speed of the draft so I will suggest we take a 5 min break on the hour and half hour so managers can refresh their bladders, drinks and nomination list. It's going to be fast so you need to be prepared. You also need to nominate - so please always have a name to throw out.
-
If you are interested in how you have valued your players so far you can check this out. Select First Year Leagues here and get league pricing to date: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/averageValues?gameType=2&firstYearLeague=1 I'm tied for high man on Albies, but low on Baez. As a league I'd say we've done pretty well.
-
Ran the Ottoneu Surplus Calculator - top three player values so far: Mondesi (Frozen Tundra), Diaz (Smalls) and Lamet (Andy V). Top 3 teams by "best value": Isotopes, Frozen Tundra and AndyV. It will be interesting to see where we all are after the next draft.

thanks Brad. This makes sense

John - you probably have a two or three high-priced players that came in trade last season with loans. This is how it works: say I have Juan Soto (at $70) and want to trade him to you. But you are already at $400. You trade me a $10 player and I send you Soto but I still pay $60 his salary (the loan.) That $60 comes off my salary cap for the rest of the season and is added to your cap for the season. At the end of the season, the loan is gone and we're both back at $400 caps.
