im starting to think that i am not going to win the league this year
-
Upton, Gordon, Swisher, Quentin, Hanley, Chapman, and Utley are all on the block for anyone interested. Primarily looking for help at 1B, OF, SS, and SP.
-
With my recent (expensive) acquisitions, I have a lot of players I like but don't think I'll be able to afford long term. I'm looking to sell off certain players to reduce payroll with an eye on competing next season.

If this was Facebook I'd like that comment

proper gentleman, i believe. we should probably wear top hats and a monocle when negotiating
-
In short, gentlemanly conduct.
-
Yeah, it is hard to guess thats why we need to rely on the people making the trade. If it feels fishy, it probably is. It's tough to prosecute but don't act in a way that you wouldnt want someone else to act.
-
You know, maybe you're now higher on the player you traded? Hard to completely guess what goes through anyone's mind when trades are made
-
if the tradeback came later for Tulo + $13 for the same price Trout, that would be an example of something I would veto. If a normal tradeback was offered without the exact compensation, it gets pretty hard to determine reasons
-
Say (not looking up numbers for accuracy) someone swaps a $45 Trout and $13 to Soandso for a $58 Tulo. Initially a good trade, no reason to veto as a voter
-
...differential that occurred at the initial trade being given back.
-
But say you have a strong OF and you want to swap a strong OF to someone for their strong IF with the intent to switch back at the end of the season - there's not a lot I can do when the tradeback takes place other than veto based upon the money...
-
Exactly. I don't want to establish a policy or make things more difficult than they should be, but collusion is definitely against my idea of a good league. As was mentioned recently we try to do what's best in the spirit of the league
-
...unless it's blatantly one team extending cash to the other and then taking back the player at full cost after the season.
-
I think it would be tricky to pull off. It would have to be a fair trade twice, no one gets hurt, no one drastically under or over performs. I agree with JT that it's against the spirit, but if two people make two fair trades that's difficult to oppose...
-
to get him back after the season at the same or lesser price then that does seem like collusion to me.
-
I'm new here so take itt with a grain of salt but I would think that trading a player with express agreement to get him back later is against the spirit if not the letter of the law. If you get two fair trades, thats one thing but if the agreement exists
-
I guess objectionably I look at all trades as individual entities. If what is being given up on side matches that of the other I vote to approve it. If not, I vote to veto - as was the case not too long ago.
-
Yeah, but at that point the damage would be done. So I guess what I'm hearing is that this is outside the confines of gentlemanly conduct.
-
Domo, we can trade players before rosters lock. I traded for Cespedes and Aaron Hill last offseason before the draft.
-
And if that kind of thing popped up at that point I would step in and heavy-hand veto that
-
Theoretically you wouldn't be able to trade them back though at the end of the season because of the trade deadline. You would have to either release them or wait until rosters are unlocked after the draft
-
Ya, if the point is to mimic real baseball than I can't find any way to justify that. It would also be unfair to anyone trading keepers to try and catch up to you. Honorable of you to ask about it first, though.
-
I'm not worried about others doing it, I'm considering doing it myself. But I hesitate on the chance that we would consider it cheating.
-
I guess that's the type of thing you're afraid of when you're at the top of the league. Sadly I've never had that opportunity.
-
Are you afraid that's happening? Now that MouseRats has been replaced, I'm confident the rest of our teams will be back next year, so this is not something that has ever crossed my mind.
-
to a contending team for the stretch run, only to have the contending team return the player at year's end? While there is no specific rule against this, it seems like some kind of collusion to me. What does the rest of the league think?
-
I've been kicking around a strategy for a few days now, and while I think it might work, I feel like ultimately we need to outlaw it as a league. What is our policy on renting players? By that a mean a non-contending team trading one of their keepers

It seems I share his fascination with fringe prospects.
-
Carson Cistulli would approve of the most recent auction.
-
If that was your plan all along, well played, good sir. I never would have let him go for 9 at auction.
-
But now he's less! ;)
-
Oh, the memories...
-
Remember when Xander Bogaerts went for more than Machado in the auction draft this year?

Montero was the last player remaining from my Year 1 team. End of an era for me. A very mediocre era, filled with shitty teams.
-
Damn tulo...I need a SS
-
Trout is available for someone who needs some outfield help for the rest of the year. Looking for a package of prospects at good prices. I'd be happy to pick up a good chunk of Trout's salary for the rest of the year as well, if the package is good.

Miguel Cabrera is still available and on the block....

Also I accidentally voted to veto that trade cause my phone is near the end its life (and probably also fat fingers). I have no objections to the move
