The only issue with the honor system is that we need to be sure to remind people every time we get a new owner in. It'd be nice if we had something like the "commisioner's note" feature that yahoo has - the league I've been in the longest uses that to sp

As for the cap penalty issue, it seems we have three options. We can present the problem to Niv and see if he has any suggestions, everyone knows about it and can expoit it equally, or honor system. Anyone feel strongly one way or another?
-
Agreed. It's a hige relief to see everything run so smoothly with a new arbitration system and two new owners.
-
Excellent work on the allocations, gentlemen. Except everyone who allocated to me. I hate you all for that
-
When I read the rules I realized it was a possibility, but I didn't do it until I saw others doing it. I didn't want to be the first one to take advantage of the loophole ...
-
As much as I hated Rewind Yourself, he was the first person I remember to do it. So kudos to him I guess.
-
...could do that until after my first year in the league.
-
It would be interesting to see if Niv could do something about it, but I don't think it's worth trying to keep track of it ourselves. As long as everyone is aware of this and can exploit it equally, its not a big issue. Although I didn't realize you...
-
I am against the whittling away of the salary cap hit, but have definitely done it before. Self-policing could be an issue if we tried to sort it out....
-
But even then, it would be very difficult to gauge an owner's intent.
-
I think the best we could do is to implement a league policy, but even then I would want everyone to be okay with it. That's the main reason I asked the question in the first place.
-
I think that's the biggest problem. There isn't really a way to enforce it unless we were to ask Niv to change the 30 day limit to an outright ban on bidding on players you have already cut. But even then, that would need to be a system wide change.
-
t happen, and reminders everytime we have new players joing the league. If we could get Niv to do something in the software to prevent this strategy, though, I'd be all for it.
-
It'd be nice if there was a way to change the rules to prevent it, but I've had bad luck in the past with leagues trying to enforce rules like this. Unless ottoneu added something to prevent it, it would require a lot of monitoring to make sure it doesn'
-
I think being able to do that is a bit of an exploit, but as long as everyone is aware of the exploit, and uses it equally, it doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage.
-
...at the price at which they were originally acquired. It wouldn't impact the cap hit, but would prevent the salary cap shenanigans.
-
...by the end of the season by adding him and immediately cutting him after waiting the 30 day period. It's in the rules, but it doesn't seem to make logical sense. I feel like if an owner is going to reacquire a player they drop, it should have to be...
-
I think the issue is that some owners (myself included) whittle away the cap penalties of cut players over the course of the year. Example: I had Dan Haren at $19 to begin the season, and after cutting him in June, was able to get his cap hit down to $5..
-
... penalty to begin with. I would've liked to do similar with Heyward to get him down to around what he was worth with the idea that his jaw injury he would come back, but I wasn't confident I would have the cap room to do that
-
I hadn't given it much thought. Each time you throw the player away every other owner has a chance to chime in and pick that player up at a fraction of the cost as well, so if you threw that money away to begin with you already have an assessed cap ...
-
many other owners have as well. I'm not looking to ban it or anything but was honestly curious to see how everyone else viewed it. Any comments anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
-
prepared to live with a cap hit if they throw around money haphazardly. And on the other hand I recognize this is a game and not real life, and it could be viewed as just an aspect of the rules that can be exploited. I've done this before and I know
-
I was talking to DJIB recently and was hoping to have some other owners weigh in on this. How do we feel about resigning players who you've cut in order to recut them and reduce their cap hit? Part of me thinks it's underhanded and a team should be
-
new to ottoneu, I am not new to fantasy baseball and definitely like to make trades! I have already done my allocation which was a great introduction to everyone's roster. If you ever want to talk baseball or trades, email me anytime!
-
Hi Everyone!! Sorry that I didn't introduce myself. Wasn't sure how active the board was in the offseason. I have taken over the team and renamed it Persistent Illusions. I am a very active GM and look forward to getting to know all of you. Although I am
-
yeah, Casey is a buddy that is in a number of fantasy leagues of mine, he wanted to get into ottoneu so he took this opening....lets hope i beat him out this year!!
-
ya the new guy is a friend of taco's.
-
Welcome. This one of you guy's dudes?
-
Welcome, Casey K of Persistent Illusions
-
I guess I feel like your allocation shouldn't be influenced by what others have done. Although this does let us monitor particpation..
-
Yeah, I think that's the reason for having it not blind.
-
i.e. if it was blind and everyone went $3 to Mike Trout, he would just get released at $97 and we essentially pissed away the purpose of the process
-
I do like that it shows the arbitrated salary as it stands, so if something's been voted up substantially your vote may change - pretty sure that is why it is that way
-
I agree. I found myself looking more critical at not picking Urb's but eventually said to hell with it and rolled
-
I feel like this arbitration allocation should be blind, just like the previous arbitration system.
-
Well he failed to respond to the mass email, hasn't answered my personal one today and I sent a trade request to him prior to the trade deadline that was never answered, so he has a few hours left to respond before I let Jeff go to town replacing him
-
It was easy to tell it was his because it's also named Safeco Fielders and is owned by beavsfanclub. And is has Felix, Morse, Kendrys, Wilhelmsen, Seager, and Zunino, so yeah.
-
Was that team filled with Mariners? That would be a pretty easy way to tell if it was his.
-
Safeco already has another team in the Wendy Peffercorn league where the "You're Killing Me Smalls" team is abandoned. Maybe he decided to jump ship.
-
and it was apparently so awesome I had to post it twice
-
I sent another email to Safeco regarding his participation next year, if he does not respond by later today I will mark him abandoned in order to get another owner in to participate in the arbitration process that starts tomorrow.

-
That's cool, the system increases player salary in the order by which they were added.
-
And thanks for your participation, Ghost Man.
-
Ya I think that just leaves me, Domo, Rye, and id3 from the original league.
-
I also live in an ineligible state. We could always do something where we paid into a Paypal account or something, then paid out the winnings ourselves. Fangraphs taking $150 from the pot is pretty steep, too.
-
We're running out of originals
-
It's been fun everyone, but after 3 years the Ghost Man just can't commit to the league any more.
