I have decided not to return next year. Wish everyone the best.
-
Congrats to DJIB! 91 pts is quite a high mark.
-
Congratulations to DJIB. Go Rangers.
-
Thanks, can't say I wasn't worried only two weeks ago when Urbina was surging, JAGF was going strong, and my starters couldn't make it past the 5th. I was very lucky with pitching health all year, a couple injuries here and there and the outcome might have been different. Looking forward to next year!
-
Congratulations, DJIB! Masterfully done yet again. Enjoy the wild card round, everyone! We'll be in touch shortly regarding 2024 planning.
-
Olson and Riley, I don't think anybody else was gonna catch that lol
-
Congrats DJIB on going back to back, and not making it close.
-
I think Pfaadt is our most claimed player ever.
-
I have to agree with David Justice is blind, when we try to manage by exception or special ruling, we could get in a mess in future years
-
Ugh. I am at a loss for words. I hope this is nothing, but how often has that actually ended up as the outcome. As it relates to this league, I would look back to how we handled Trevor Bauer, Marcell Ozuna, Roberto Ozuna, etc., and in those cases we did not provide any special treatment for those players. If it goes to the level of prison or a lifetime ban from the sport we can revisit, but I am of the opinion that the cut penalty is the risk we take with any player, regardless of the reason.
-
like an injury (ideally like a 60-day IL spot, but that's not a big deal to me and would probably need programmed in by Shiv's team). But if they're on the restricted list, I feel like the closest equivalent would be a penalty free cut. I would say then that player could be auctioned by anyone at any time for a min of $1; if a player is legal to be rostered, I don't see any reason why someone shouldn't be able to pick him up and any owner that doesn't want to roster someone doesn't have to.
-
Well, that's awesome news. Given that my team is directly impacted by this, feel free to ignore my thoughts. But if the idea is Ottoneu as close as fantasy gets to running an MLB team, I'd look to the different statuses a player can be on to determine what happens. If a players is on administrative leave, they are off the roster but still paid. But if they get placed on the restricted list, they're not paid or on the roster. So I feel like the equivalent would be administrative leave is

in all likelihood, we are in for a bit of a wait until MLB does their due diligence and issues a ruling, so we have some time to discuss and come up with a reasonable policy. does anyone here have an opinion on how to handle this or any future ethical concerns?
-
glossing over the endive situation, the recent Wander Franco news might be an opportune time for us to discuss this league's policy towards DV and similar ethical issues. my thoughts on the matter are that an owner should be given the option to wash their hands entirely of a player and drop him without cap penalty, similar to how player deaths are treated. of course this begs the question of whether that player can be reactioned and if so, at what price.
-
Is the person I was messaging years ago about endive still in this league? I'm eating some insane endive right now.
-
Our rosters are based on the MLB 40-man rosters, and the extra roster spot for 60IL players is based on the same rule that exists in IRL baseball. Painter isn't on the 40-man so the Phils don't get an extra spot, therefore you don't either. I have to admit, I don't know what would happen if he was on the 40-man but still MiLB. Would introduce an interesting gray area that could challenge the rule and maybe open a loophole.
-
Sorry to be late to the party. This point was raised immediately on Skack and the community message boards after Niv implemented the feature. You have a fair point, Drew. From a game perspective it doesn't make much sense, but in this case it comes down to the founding ethos of the platform: "The intention of this league is to mimic the job of an actual general manager as closely as possible." (first line of the rules)
-
Fair enough. I still don't think it makes a ton of sense for the real life 40 man to come into play. We have our own 40 man rosters to contend with. So I suppose I acknowledge the rule, but I fail to see the logic behind it.
-
That's the response I received from Niv

-
Doesn't hurt to ask. There's a whole bunch of COVID language in the rules as well, so they probably haven't been reviewed in a while.
-
By which I mean, even if Painter wasn't on the Phillies 40 man when he went down, he is on the Escape Pod 40 man -- so a 60 day IL stint wherever he's at would logically call for the roster spot to open.
-
I guess it's worth clarifying? I'm not sure how it works in the real world with someone who is on the 40 man but not in the majors. That's essentially the analogue to our situation right? Painter's profile on the MiLB website does specify that he's on some kind of 60 day IL.
-
They way the Ottoneu rule is written, there's no distinction between MLB and MiLB IL. And I'm not sure there even is a 60 day MiLB IL. The 60 day functions to temporarily remove a player from the 40 man when they're out for an extended period. Maybe something that was created out of necessity when they contracted the minors and instituted stricter MiLB roster rules. Drew, do you want Jeff or I to reach out to Niv? I think they should clarify in the rule book one way or the other.
-
Unfortunately, MiLB 60day does still cost a roster slot
-
A query: anybody know whether players on the minor league 60 day IL also shouldn't count against the 40 man for our purposes? Reviewing the rules they state generally that players on the 60 day IL don't count against the spots limit but it doesn't touch on minors vs. majors. I've got Painter on the MiLB 60 day (he has the little notation next to his name) but he's still taking up a roster spot. Perhaps that's just the way it is but figured I'd inquire.

Sunny Day Real Estate just announced a show in my city in August. My other ottoneu team is Godspeed You! Bryce Harperor and the real Godspeed is also playing my city in the fall. 2 for 2 on legacy bands!
-
Elly de La Cruz day! Get ready for - 34% strikeout rate, 120 mph exit velocities, 25 steals, 99 mph throws and a sub .300 obp!!
-
Bradish has been dropped in all three fantasy baseball leagues I play in after tonight lol
-
Nah.
-
LOL. Not to throw any more chaos into this system but if either Twosies or SGRE want to rescind the trades i'm ok with that since they were made under certain assumptions. If not, that's just on me. I was trying to get myself out of a situation in advance where i'd have to cut 20 dollars worth of players. Either way, the moves i made don't feel detrimental and cap is always valuable.
-
Immediately thought of this: https://media.tenor.com/fpRrMe-iwMkAAAAM/burn-watch.gif
-
Dansby likes watching others squirm. Or maybe just a chaos agent.
-
Well that was awkward lol. the Last 48hrs have been the weirdest I have experienced as a manager. I made trades to clear cap for a mistake so I wouldn’t have to over cut and hurt the team overall and it didn’t even matter.
-
127 scoreless innings was so miraculous, they had to rename it after Chris Taylor, the guy who finally broke the streak.
-
Seems like an achievable award for Trevor Rogers
-
This is what comes up for a Google search of CT Young: https://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/202122/rs_1024x759-210302193849-1024-ct-the-inferno-3-mp.jpg?fit=around%7C1024:759&output-quality=90&crop=1024:759;center,top
-
We'll all barely remember the stinger 2023 NL CT Young Winner Trevor Rogers got after a mid-April start and instead remember the 127 consecutive innings he threw without allowing a run.
-
Man, if this is AHWT with an injured pitching staff and no Tatis, what's going to happen when things start trending up?
-
Also Tatis is back!
-
See ya Brantley. Your OBP skills are fantastic. I will be sad to you see you leave AHWT. But none the less I have to be able to afford my bad luck.
-
Looking to clear some cap room. If you are interested in $7 tovar, $8 Tyler Stephenson, $3 Brantley or someone else who isn't a starter i depend on, let me know. They are yours for the cost of their salary.
-
I wish there was an easy way to track this. Kevin Gausman is close for me, he's Grover Cleveland'ed his way to a multi stint that's lasted a non-consecutive ten years with a couple of momentary pit stops with Urbina and AHWT along the way.
-
Also worth noting that he was cut at $53 and added at auction for $55, so we probably could've added another year to that total if we really wanted.
-
Kind of a fun ottoneu 118 fact here: Max Scherzer was cut on January 28, 2012 and then had over a decade of retention. He wasn't cut again until January 19, 2023. I can't imagine many other guys have a decade of never being cut from a team! Included in that, Urbina had him from October 2013 until September 2020. Also a remarkable stretch!
-
No worries guys. Appreciate you thinking about it. On my end if no one outbids me for him then I’ll come up with a plan. Thanks!
-
Yeah but if you are going to trade Woodruff, trade him to me.
-
AHWT, before you do anything too drastic like trading Woodruff, I'll nominate Rogers after you cut him and he clears waivers. I've always liked him and will eat the $2 cap penalty if he needs TJ.
-
impact the bids and roster moves he has already made or is making right now.
-
Hi AHWT, that's some terribly bad luck, but having spoken with DJIB, I don't think there is justification in the rules or affordances in the commissioner tools to cancel a current auction. We can cancel pending trades if there is sign of collusion or foul play, but injuries are part of the game, so unfortunately this doesn't rise to the standard necessary for commissioner intervention. It would also open a can or worms in terms by requiring us to reapply a cap penalty to Papi, which could...
