I would like to promote Colt Keith to my 40 man, and cut DePaula and Harris. That should leave my MiLB5 clear.

Okay boys and girls midnight tonight Eastern time is the keeper deadline.
We still have two teams that have not yet renewed and 4 teams over the maximum players and salary. Trading also ends tonight so search out those teams that need lighten payroll and see if you can score a trade for your team.
SPRING TRAINING STARTS FEBRUARY 13th.

Seven 100% with you on that last point. But yeah, otherwise we vote for simple as well--if a MiLB player is cut in the offseason, they should be draft-eligible.

I knew I’d find somebody once I clicked around lol. Nick Yorke looks to qualify too. I see no problem with it. Totally agree with simple

I agree. But I think it's important that during the season players are moved to the active roster before they are cut.

We're definitely in favor of keeping it simple. Impressive pull on that acuna info, Tigers. Our memories are busted.

I feel like we never followed that restriction anyway. Luisangel acuna was on a 40 man roster, cut, and then drafted in Milb draft last march. I don’t see any need for that rule but fine either way
Tigers 2095 on

That is the problem
It's too difficult to keep track of.
That's why I go along with the idea if a player salary is zero and he has no experience in the major leagues it's okay to draft them.
Unless somebody wants to volunteer to create such a list it might be something to think about. Because we'd have to consult that list when we draft. And it's just not worth it to me.

When players are cut during the offseason, doesn't their salary reset to zero? If the MILB draft were held in-season, then cut players would have a salary, but right now every cut player has a salary of zero. If we can't draft players who were on a primary ottoneu roster at some point in the past, is there a handy list of who those players are? Or do we have to check each player individually?

For example if I had a minor league player on my roster last year and he stayed on the bench all year and never played in the major leagues and then I dropped him he still would not be eligible to be drafted in the milp draft. In that case he would still have a salary which is my point. As long as a player has a salary he's not eligible to be drafted in the MLB portion

I think what swinging for the fences said was if they were on a 40 Man roster they would be ineligible. Which is correct. I do not think he meant on milb roster.

Commishes, thanks for those explanations. There’s a slight difference, so following up to be extra clear. From Seven’s description, it sounds like players who have been on our 40+ man can be drafted as long as they never reached the majors and are currently cut and without salary. From S4tF, any presence on a 40+ man at any point prior is disqualifying. Which should we go with? Am I overthinking this (yes)?
Juan 3:16 on
January 30, 2024 12:47 PM

If they haven't played in the major leagues and they don't have a salary attached to them then they're eligible to be drafted
SEVEN on
January 29, 2024 9:03 PM

If a player was on one of our 40 man rosters the year prior, in this case 2023, they would be ineligible to be drafted in this 5MiLB draft. Other than that, as long as they don't have any major league appearance of any kind, they would be eligible to be drafted. This would players in Plan Nine's scenario also eligible, as they were never on the 40 man rosters.
-
At least for the offseason portion, if you cut an milb player, they should still be eligible to be drafted by another team in a future milb draft. So I would say they shouldn’t have the dollar assigned. But if a majority are in favor of the dollar rule, then I can live with it.
Plan Nine on
January 29, 2024 1:42 PM

"That would mean players with the $1 salary could not be drafted again in the milp draft." If a minor leaguer is available at the MILP draft, are they still eligible for that draft even if they've been rostered at some point, as long as they're currently cut? Or do you mean that if a player has ever been held at $1 they're ineligible?
Juan 3:16 on
January 29, 2024 1:36 PM
-
Yeah I think that makes sense. There would be no real way to apply a penalty in the off-season--teams would just get rosters legal up to the last minute then request an immediate promote/cut without penalty. Seems easier to just cut out the middle man.
Not sure I see a scenario where you would make a MiLB cut during the season. I agree that that should incur a $1 penalty if it happens, but outside of trades MiLB rosters don't get added to, and we aren't really limited by roster size

Yes, in season, if u want to cut an MiLB player they will be activated then dropped. This incurring the $1 penalty.

I agree 100% with cuts post And pre season.
How do we want to handle IN SEASON cuts?
I still want to promote players to active rosters in order to be cut.

I've payed pretty close attention to our MiLB stuff over the years, and I don't think we are that off. I'm fairly certain u can freely cut guys from your MiLB roster in the off-season without bringing them up to the active roster and incurring the $1 penalty. That's more an in-season management. But yes, once they have a salary attached to them they can't be MiLB rostered going forward.
-
I've never been in a league with minor league roster till this offseason, I'm fine with whatever
-
It makes sense to me but I know some of you don't want to transfer the player to the active roster and just want to drop the player from the MiLB roster without giving him the salary of a dollar
I would like to get some feedback if anybody has an opinion

When we dropped someone from our minor league roster we first had to transfer him to our active roster at the salary of a dollar. The team could drop him with no penalty because he was only a dollar. But the player kept the $1 salary designation. There was a rule I saw that once a player is on another team's active roster he can no longer be drafted in the milp draft. That would mean players with the $1 salary could not be drafted again in the milp draft.

Also a reminder, if u want to cut anyone from your MiLB roster without having to take an in season $1 penalty, you need to do so and post it in here prior to the Jan 31 cut down deadline. There should be a link to the current rosters in the 'League Settings' tab.
